Title:
Balans
Label:
WOLFSKUIL RECORDS (GERMANY)
Format:
CD
Price:
$17.00
Catalog #:
WOLF 001CD
This is the debut full-length release by Dutch DJ/producer and Wolfskuil label-head,
Darko Esser
. Music, work, friends and life in general is all about balance -- especially about finding and keeping that balance despite all the contradictions, rollercoaster-rides and paradoxes life can put in front of you. Besides his signature dancefloor-oriented music,
Balans
also showcases a different side of Darko -- he experiments with different tempos (listen to the downtempo electronica of "Broken" and "The Goodbye Song," for example), structures (hear the freaked-out beats versus emotion-ridden melodies on "Dobro Jutro"), melodies (the multilayered and detailed ambient on "Teardrops,") and of course, rhythms, expressed beautifully on "Pechvogel," where amen-breaks battle with 4/4 rhythms. Most tracks on the album have opposing titles and the atmosphere changes from dark, moody and emotional to uplifting, cheerful and happy, sometimes even within the same track, as can be heard in full effect on "Balans." One could musically summarize the whole album as an in-depth excursion into the world of melody, resulting in catchy yet unusually-arranged compositions. The first feedback on the album has been overwhelming, and "Teardrops" has already been licensed as the closing-track on
Dave Seaman
's Renaissance
Master Series
compilation.
Balans
is the first artist album to come out on Wolfskuil Records, and it will certainly not be the last.

DJ YELLOW
Title:
Too Much Of Nothing
Label:
WOLFSKUIL RECORDS (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$12.00
Catalog #:
WOLF 011EP
"With influences that range from the bells of Mike Oldfield to the beats of Jeff Mills, the depths of James Holden to the drive of Josh Wink, its Yellow's signature blend of hypnotic techno and deephouse that he is respected for. With both drive and melancholic strains apparent in his works, Yellow is a master at weaving melodies and grooves that continue to hypnotize and energize over the course of a night. He is considered one of the godfathers of the French house scene since the early '80s and has continued his legacy through his own Poussez! Music imprint and the Alienation & Intermission series. The 2 tracks on his first ever release on a Dutch label have the typical DJ Yellow trademarks written all over it. The title track with its uplifting drum patterns, driving bassline and haunting strings and melodies is peaktime material for anyone who likes to go deep without losing energy in his or her set. 'Medium' is build around a series of complex and deeply emotional melodies, taking things down a notch. The track is mechanical soul and funk of the best kind and it presents an ideal moment to reflect on the night and taking the music deeper and deeper into the morning."

GATZIGRISTOS, GIORGOS
Title:
Proper Latin Usage
Label:
WOLFSKUIL RECORDS (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$12.00
Catalog #:
WOLF 012EP
"Giorgos Gatzigristos, born in 1979, lived in Nijmegen (NL) all his life. As a child he got enthralled by the analog sounds of Vangelis and Jean Michel Jarre, which his father sort of pushed on him. Their sounds and compositions got him interested in the way these artists created their music and the vision they had about music in general. His production career toke off in 2004 when he released his first 12" on Wolfskuil Records. It didn't take long for Giorgos to get noticed by the mighty Kompakt empire, where he released 3 successful singles on their K2 imprint. Several releases & remixes on Manual, Channel Music, etc., later he returns to his roots and delivers one hell of a techno stomper for Wolfskuil. 'Proper Latin Usage' is a deep, dark and twisted electronic masterpiece. The track sounds like a ticking timebomb which doesn't seem to go off, but keeps everyone listening in anxious suspense to the coming events. On the flip is an excellent remix from Mikrowave, label owner and International DJ Gigolo protégé, Kevin Gorman. He turns the original into proper floor-filling & bass-heavy mayhem, in the way only Kevin can. Not for the faint of heart!"

ESSER & BENNY RODRIGUES, DARKO
Title:
Slaapgebrek
Label:
WOLFSKUIL RECORDS (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$12.00
Catalog #:
WOLF 013EP
"Long time friends and studio partners Darko Esser and Benny Rodrigues team up for their first ever appearance on Wolfskuil Records. Both are well known figures in the Dutch dance scene and even beyond. Last year they released their duo debut on Darren Emerson's Underwater imprint, entitled
Paradox
which received massive support from the industry and was played out by international jocks like Josh Wink, Derrick May, Technasia, Pete Tong a.o. This is their second release with many more to follow. Long and sleepless nights were the inspiration for 'Slaapgebrek' which means sleep deprivation in Dutch. The results of these sessions are two moody & hallucinogenic tracks, which represent a state of mind only to be experienced after many restless nights. The original mix with its freaked out shuffled drum patterns, rave stabs and maximal modulated bassline is peak-time dancefloor fudder for any crazed techno night. Frustrated bleeps and FX give it a nervous twilight zone like feel, climaxing and clashing throughout the track. The flipside takes things on a lighter, more emotion ridden tip. The rhythm is stripped down of all nastiness and the bassline friendlier and melodic. Halfway through the break the violins kick in, resembling the break of dawn after another night of turning and twisting without getting any much deserved rest. Perfect afterhour material."
Artist:
BRTSCHITSCH, PAUL
Title:
Bridge Itch
Label:
WOLFSKUIL RECORDS (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$12.00
Catalog #:
WOLF 014EP
"Wolfskuil Records is proud to announce the addition of a renowned international techno producer to its artist roster. Paul Brtschitsch from Berlin, Germany, has been delivering wonderful tunes to the world since 1996. His strength is defined by a timeless understanding of music and a distinct accuracy regarding arrangements as well as exploring new sounds. The two tracks which comprise the 14th release on Wolfskuil are exemplary for Paul's warm and accessible sound and eye for subtle details. The funky bass line in 'Parkett' turns out to be highly addictive when dropped on the floor, nicely flourished with hints of melody. The drum programming is extremely accurate and versatile, revealing that a lot of effort has been put into this piece of music. 'Bellaphonica' on the flipside is a deep, dubby and psychedelic excursion into the realms of techno. It reminds of Paul's early work on Frisbee and Taksi, but undoubtedly interpreted from a fresh 2008 angle. The title 'Bridge Itch' is a comic reference to the fact that most people find his last name unpronounceable. Hopefully, this will help MCs and radio jocks in the future."
Artist:
TOMMY FOUR SEVEN
Title:
Deer Code
Label:
WOLFSKUIL RECORDS (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$12.00
Catalog #:
WOLF 015EP
"The original mix of 'Deer Code' is a funky little minimal rocker that starts with a simple bass-line and very soft kicks. Subtle percussion in the form of clicks, hi-hats and shakers are slowly introduced while the overall slowly turns into a warm, soulful hypnotizer. Later on, a more soaring synthesizer is introduced along with a thick wave of warm strings on the background: a combination that creates a rather luscious atmosphere. Overall, the track features a well built up groove but a little more musical adventure would have been welcome. Darko Esser turns the original into an utterly chunky tech-house/melodic techno stomper full of fat bass, crispy claps and a great dose of melodic synths and strings. This remix adds that extra bit of magic to the original by including a myriad of psychedelic sounds, resulting in a highly melodic tech jam that will definitely cause a frenzy on the floor. Berlin meets Chicago on this one. Peak-time material!"
Artist:
SANCHEZ, JUAN
Title:
Freakshow
Label:
WOLFSKUIL RECORDS (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$12.00
Catalog #:
WOLF 016EP
"Wolfskuil Records is back with its first release for 2009 on the mothership label. Juan Sanchez, the Amsterdam based producer with Spanish background, makes his Wolfskuil debut with an impressive 2 track single.
The Freakshow
EP is an exemplary showcase of what Juan is capable of. Two peaktime tracks, but both with different angles. The title track delivers exactly what you expect from a song with that particular title. Freaky, out of control basslines and over-the-top rhythmic exercises, with loads of subtle hints, clever programming and detailed edits form the freaked out basis for Juan's vocals. No 4 bars are the same, but the track is coherent from beginning until the end. Prepare to rip up floors with this one! '23 Positions' shows a different side of Juan. It's carrying his trademark production style, but '23 Positions' takes a more melodic approach. Beautifully arranged strings sweep in and out throughout the track, accompanied by a non stop rolling groove. Again there is a remarkable eye for detail, clever programming and spot on sound engineering, which makes this tune explode from any PA."

Benny Rodrigues
' re-rub of "The Goodbye Song" is a slow, hypnotic builder that has been causing mayhem. There are also two remixes from

Balans Remixes Part 3

WOLFSKUIL RECORDS (GERMANY)
Format:

Price:
$12.00
Catalog #:
WOLF 017.3EP
This is the third volume in a series of 12"s containing tracks from
Darko Esser
's album
Balans
(WOLF 001CD/LP).
Chymera
kicks off a proper old-school mix, which brings to mind timeless, early '90s
E-Dancer
and
Reese
compositions. He makes the bass line bite, growl and howl like the best
Saunderson
productions back in the day. More Detroit vibes on the regular remix, which takes a bit of the acid out of the original and replaces it with those melancholic Motor City strings.

Gene Le Fosse
,
Giorgos Gatzigristos
,
Warren Fellow
and
Piet van Dongen
for a proper rework. Gene delivers a solid roller, with a drive like an unstoppable techno train, while Giorgos' version is experimental in nature, without losing sight of a proper hook. Quirky sounds, heavy effects.
Artist:
O'DONOVAN, IAN
Title:
En Verano
Label:
WOLFSKUIL RECORDS (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$12.00
Catalog #:
WOLF 018EP
Ireland's
Ian O'Donovan
has already received massive support from
Laurent Garnier
,
Dave Clarke
,
John Digweed
, and
Darko Esser
. "En Verano" is a true, Detroit-influenced techno anthem at its best. Ian builds the two mixes of the track, both carefully arranged and orchestrated. In the house-y "Dawn Mix," the main piano melody is introduced with perfect timing in a stunning breakdown, with layered piano themes and extra melodies in different harmonies and structures. A truly amazing piece of work.

WOLF 022EP
Tim Wolff
's pure, stripped-down and uptempo techno productions fit Wolfskuil Records perfectly. Get ready for uncompromising, big-room techno. The title track is a relentless, peak-time monster. Dave Clarke
's '90s classics. On remix duties are Dutch studio wunderkind
Quince
and Wolfskuil label boss
Darko Esser
. Quince delivers a stripped-down, dubbed-out funkcersize that's as much a deep hypnotic excursion as a prime time secret weapon.
