Artist: HEATHCLIFF, JUSTIN
Title: Justin Heathcliff
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8455
"Long before attaining fame as a soundtrack composer and new age artist, Osamu Kitajima adopted a sufficiently Anglo pseudonym and released this amazing homage to British pop-psychedelia in 1971. Issued by Warner Bros. in Japan only, the LP has unsurprisingly climbed skywards in price ever since, and only a cave dweller could miss the faithful nods to Syd, Marc, John, Paul, George and Ringo in the original compositions and English lyrics. Osamu's ability around a studio was evident even then and the choice of genre to lovingly imitate predated the whole retro/'paisley' psych movement by about ten or fifteen years."

Artist: LES MOGOL
Title: Danses et Rhythmes de la Turquie
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8460
Bootleg reissue. "Another sparkling reissue of a Turkish classic, this time a strange collection of melodic crypto-folk instrumentals with a weird Zombies/Animals touch, recorded by the biggest selling group in Turkey at the time; first released in Paris by Guilde Internationale du Disque in 1971; spicy take on traditional music won the coveted Grand Prix du Disque from the Academie Charles Cros."

Artist: KORAY, ERKIN
Title: Elektronik Türküler
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8461
2008 repress of this grey-area reissue of classic material by this elusive Turkish psychedelic legend; previously reissued on LP by the German Damla label. Unlike previous Koray albums (including some CDs that have come out in Turkey that are basically impossible to find), this appears to be a straight reissue of a complete album from 1974. Beautifully developed Eastern melodies via a folk-ish/psych merger and some of Koray's most extended tracks. Mesmerizing stuff.

Artist: 3 HUR -EL
Title: 3 Hur-el
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8462
Bootleg reissue. "Their first LP, another masterpiece of Turkish psychedelic delight, culled from singles by the three very talented Hur El brothers, and released in 1972 in small quantities on Diskotur (originals sell for $1000 and up nowadays); some of the very best Turkish psych songs -- less Western in some ways than their great Arsivi LP, but still with the same excellent guitar, impassioned vocals and Eastern percussion that makes for memorable listening and a long-term connection with the music; a triumph that belongs in every record collection."

Artist: 3 HUR -EL
Title: Hurel Arsivi
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8463
Bootleg reissue. "A masterpiece of Turkish ethno-psychedelic delight, recorded between 1970 and 1975 by the three very talented Hur El brothers, and released in small quantities on Diskotur (originals sell for $1000 and up nowadays); their second album has the heavy hashish sound -- fuzz guitar, impassioned vocals and Eastern percussion -- that makes Turkish psych so savory to the rest of the world; very possibly as good as anything recorded by countryman Erkin Koray."

Artist: LA COFRADIA DE LA FLOR SOLAR
Title: La Cofradia de la Flor Solar
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8464
"Named after a student artistic community 50 km south of Buenos Aires, 'The Brotherhood Of The Solar Flower' was originally formed in 1968 by three of the musically inclined participants. After a compilation appearance and RCA/Vik 7" their only LP, produced by Billy Bond, was finally released in 1971 on the Microfon label. With fourth member Kubero Diaz on lead guitar, the group created a slightly-stoned mix of acoustic/electric fuzz guitars and phased vocals, and the album went on to become one of the most highly-regarded Argentinian rock LP's, alongside releases by Almendra, Vox Dei, etc."

Artist: WIZARDS FROM KANSAS, THE
Title: Wizards From Kansas
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8465
2002 reissue. "West coast via the Midwest, The Wizards From Kansas sole album (Mercury/1970) is a solid mix of choice covers('High Flying Bird', 'Codine') and original compositions in the classic twin-guitar style of groups such as Quicksilver or Tripsichord. Regardless of the band's origins, their heads were firmly planted in San Francisco, going so far as to bring in noted SF session man Mark Naftalin for keyboard textures. World Psychedelia is pleased to add this rare release to its catalog, in superb fidelity."

Artist: COLOURS
Title: Colours
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8466
Bootleg reissue. "The liner-notes from this, tha band's first album tell us that they 'have the crystalline sharpness of the Beatles before they turned acid', and what's more, it's quite true; an excellent pop-psych album, first released on DOT in 1968; the first track, 'Bad Day At Black Rock, Baby', must be reckoned among the very best attempts at an orchestrated psych sound, with the band easily switching from key to key and featuring many disturbing time-changes; it's charms are many and varied, with songs like the sitar drone 'Rather Be Me', and the commune-song 'Brother Lou's Love Colony', later covered by Moon, and the eerie 'Cataleptic'. An underestimated LP, until now, but not anymore."

Artist: FINCHLEY BOYS
Title: Everlasting Tribute
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8467
Bootleg reissue. "Recorded in 1968, released in 1972, only album ever released -- and it's a good one -- by this band from Champaign, Illinois; not much known about them -- they recorded the material for their album in Chicago during 1968 and 1969, although it was not released until 1972; a great heavy psych record, featuring often-compiled cuts like their hard-rocking reinterpretation of The Kinks song 'I'm Not Like Everybody Else', the superb 'It All Ends', and the best cut for me, the anti-establishment anthem 'Restrictions'."

Artist: AVE ROCK
Title: Ave Rock
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8468
Bootleg reissue. "Excellent debut album by original Ave Rock line-up is a very spacey psychedelic progressive effort from Argentina, featuring the sweet 'Ausencia', the moody 'El absurdo y la melodía', and the great guitars and organ of 'Gritos'; best track might well be long improvised instrumental 'Viva Bélgica'; a very good effort which included Daddy Antogna from Orion's Beethoven; full of shifting rhythms and rich melodies."

Artist: COSA NOSTRA
Title: Cosa Nostra
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8469
Bootleg reissue. "Heavy duty rare Latin funk psych album recorded in Mexico City in 1971, their English language debut (not to be confused with their Spanish-language second album, reissued by Lazarus on LP); heavy grooves right from the start, with hard guitar, bass, drums and organ kicking it and not letting up; sounds a little like the Black Sugar albums, if you can imagine U-Roy 'singing' along with the rhythm tracks, and some strangely dissonant background singers chiming in to boot; but all vocal limitations aside, has some great cuts, such as the eponymous track 'Cosa Nostra', the funky 'Squeeze it Tight' with a real pushy groove, the rife-for-sample intro to 'Proud Mary', and the shimmering 'Change of Mind'."

Artist: LOS YORK'S
Title: 67
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8470
Bootleg reissue of this South American album from 1967. "First album by garage psych quartet who, along with Los Saicos and Los Shains are one of the best and most important bands to come from Peru in the mid-sixties (their albums are now very rare); first issued on Mag in 1967 (of course), and featuring a non-stop beat-influenced go-go twang guitar garage psych tone throughout."

Artist: POLIFEMO
Title: Polifemo
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8471A
Bootleg reissue. "Rare debut album by this Argentine rock super-group, led by (ex-Color Humano and Pescado Rabioso) David Lebon on guitar and vocals, Rinaldo Rafanelli (ex-Color Humano and Sui Generis) on bass, Juan Rodríguez (ex-Los Mentales and Sui Generis) on drums, and keyboard player Ciro Fogliatta (ex-Los Gatos, Sacramento and Espíritu; blend of rock with some progressive touches, especially the use of mellotron and moogs; includes both of their rare EMI singles + b-sides as bonus tracks."

Artist: VOX DEI
Title: Es Una Nube, Non Hay Duda (It is a Cloud, No Doubt)
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8471B
"Classic album by one of Argentina's best-loved bands was their first recorded for CBS (1973) and their first with professional production; truly inspired music that blends progressive rock, pastoral songs, 'psicodelia', and rock & roll; subjects are less heavy than on their earlier albums, with the best moments being the title track (written by Quiroga), and Ricardo Soul's 'La Verdadera Historia de Sam, el Montas (The True History of Sam the Mountain Dweller)', both considered classics of Argentine rock; booklet comes with lyrics and photos."

Artist: BULENT
Title: Benimle Oynar Misin
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8472
"Extremely rare and sought-after album shows a very different side to the incredibly rich Turkish music scene of the late 1960's/early 1970's, with gravelly vocals and introspective folk rock arrangements; a mostly calm album with incredible songs and lyrics from revered songwriter Bulent Ortacgil, recorded in 1973 or 1974; regarded by Hans Pokora's Record Collector Dreams book as psych folk, where it received four stars; musical support provided by a team of dynamite musicians including Onno Tunc and Atilla Ozdemiroglu; booklet includes lyrics and photos."

Artist: KING GEORGE DISCOVERY
Title: King George Discovery
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8473
"One and only album of Jimi Hendrix-inspired power-trio rave-ups recorded in 1968 (Haparanda label) by American R&B singer 'King' George Clemons, and a trio of Swedish musicians who later founded famed heavy psych bands Life and Blond; recorded and released only in Sweden, which is no doubt why it has remained unknown to the many fans of psychedelia who would most enjoy it; booklet has King George biography and interview."

Artist: MOGOLLAR
Title: Mogollar
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8474
"Incredibly rare second album from Mogollar, which does not even appear in the band's own discography, but was released on Diskotur all the same sometime around 1971; eleven perfect examples of the group's 'Andalou pop' mixture of ethnic Turkish music and Western elements, plus eight bonus tracks from singles (including different heavier versions of two tracks from their Danses et Rhythmes album) makes for one great disc. Booklet comes with band history and includes some photos."

Artist: APHRODITE'S CHILD
Title: End of the World
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8475
Well done bootleg reissue of their first album, from 1968. Originally issued by Mercury in Europe only. "Surprise hit album that resulted when the hyper-talented Vangelis Papathanassiou, Demis Roussos and Lucas Sideras fled from the Greek military junta to the relative safety of Paris and the 1968 student uprisings; the single 'Rain and Tears', based on Pachelbel's famous 'Canon' became the song of the year... and careers outside of Greece became real for two of the three Aphrodite's members; beautiful and strange album -- dream-like, baroque, carefully crafted pop/psych; very much in the style of English bands of the era, but with that little twist that makes it all even more special; six bonus tracks compiling rare non-LP singles tracks round out this fine reissue; lyrics and photos too in 12-page booklet."

Artist: AKBAYRAM & DOSTLAR, EDIP
Title: Nedir Ne Degildir?
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8476
Well done bootleg reissue of this Turkish album, with 4 bonus tracks. "A very different take on the Anatolian rock sound (tracks date from 1975-76), with strange keyboard washes leading to arrangements that feature wah-wah fuzz guitar and (what sounds like?) wah-wah saz, Akbayram's powerful swirling vocals, all backed by funked-up drums; many of these tracks have a tough hashish rock sound that somehow meshes well with folk instruments, and/or the odd addition of Jethro Tull-esque flute; keyboards and arrangements from 'genius' Murat Ses (Mogollar) supplement the Dostlar line-up; probably the most important non-Erkin Koray, 3 Hur El, or Mogollar album from Turkey; among the best that Turkey produced in the seventies -- and that's saying something; lyrics and photos in 12-page booklet."

Artist: KORAY, ERKIN
Title: 2
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8477
Bootleg reissue, with five bonus tracks. "First time on CD for this more advanced fusion of eastern and ethnic music from Turkish psychedelic master Koray; this is actually his third album (second for the Dogan label), and is the 1976 follow-up to the immensely excellent Elektronik Turkuler; the album tracks themselves were recorded between 1972-1976, and were first issued as singles; five bonus tracks are great! and come from 1967, 1968, and 1971... as well as an undocumented acoustic version of 'Yalnizar Rihtimi' from Turkuler; lyrics and photos in 8-page booklet."

Artist: I DELFINI
Title: I Delfini
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8478
Bootleg reissue. "Maybe the best beat album to emerge from Italy, first issued on Disco CDB in 1965; I Delfini (or, 'The Dolphins' as it translates) made a pretty good splash in their day, and why not? The lads from Padua wrote tight, punchy songs, had good production values (RCA studios), could sing (always a plus), and threw in a Beatles cover at the end in English, just for kicks; lyrics and band photos in 8-page booklet. Strong album for beat lovers."

Artist: MORGEN
Title: Morgen
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8480
"ABC Record's valiant attempt at the 'hip/youth' market, Probe, released many memorable LP's by such groups as Saint Steven and The Litter along with debut offerings by Zephyr, Soft Machine and Rare Bird, but none generate the frenzy at this late date quite like the quartet led by guitarist/vocalist Steve Morgen, first unleashed in 1969. Even before dropping needle on groove, the stark black-and-white sleeve with inset Edvard Munch lithograph, in contrast to the multicolored hues so prevalent then, makes an immediate statement. And then the music makes another immediate statement... A foreboding bass riff and staccato drumming introduce 'Welcome To The Void', and for the next thirty-eight minutes one is hurled headlong into a vortex of dual-guitar overload, lyrically woven with romantic and Victorian imagery residing on a tab of microdot. World Psychedelia has at last given this near-perfect album a proper presentation, reproducing the original insert with new transcriptions of the handwritten lyrics and, for the first time, including the rare 7" mono versions of 'She's The Nitetime' and 'Of Dreams'. Radio stations didn't bite on the single, Probe closed up shop, and the world became a decidedly sadder place."

Artist: GROWING CONCERN, THE
Title: The Growing Concern
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8481
"Although virtually nothing is known of Growing Concern, their only album (Mainstream, 1969) is an enjoyable piece of West Coast psychedelic pop. The opening track 'Hard, Hard Year' sets the tone for the album: it opens with melodic guitar work, which is joined first by bass, then by excellent keyboards; it also features beautiful female vocal harmonies from group members Bonnie MacDonald and Mary Garstki. 'Edge Of Time' features excellent lead guitar work, as does 'Tomorrow Has Been Cancelled'; 'A Boy I Once Knew Well' is a folky lament, which again features fine vocal harmonies, keyboards, and guitar work. Overall, quite a good blend of folk rock, pop, and psychedelia. The album is brilliantly recorded, and is of a consistently high musical quality. The band surely deserved a better fate than the obscurity to which they were consigned by the bizarre business practices of the Mainstream label."

Artist: SAN UL LIM
Title: San Ul Lim
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8482
"San Ul Lim (translated as 'That Mountain Echo', alternate spellings include 'Sanulim', 'Sanullim' and 'San Ul Rim') was formed by three brothers born of privilege in Seoul, South Korea. With confidence gained from endless practicing and competing in a university student song contest, they approached record label SRB (because it was near their house!) and recorded their first album in just one day. Upon its release in 1977, the LP sold over a half-million copies and paved the way for many further volumes. The songs are full of fuzz guitar, tinny keyboards and simple production, reminding one of the American garage and pop-psychedelic groups from the sixties, but with an Asian flavor. For this new reissue World Psychedelia have included two pages of English liner notes, explaining the significance of the final track, a cover of the traditional Korean folk song 'Arirang'."

Artist: BENT WIND
Title: Sussex
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8483
"First released on the tiny Trend label in 1969, Toronto quartet Bent Wind's Sussex has, over the years, ascended to become one of the most-wanted and most-expensive psychedelic LP's worldwide. Easy to believe as the reckless fuzz workouts, murky production and a frontman with a heavy Lizard King fixation satisfies both the garage and trippier camps with equal abandon. Once 'The Lions', the album climax with its anthemic call to 'GET STONED!', has permeated your skull there's no turning back. There have been many reissues of this classic LP since its original release and all have been flawed by either lackadaisical mastering or lackluster contemporary bonus material. World Psychedelia have remedied this by producing the best-quality reissue to date, and bolstering the package with both sides of their 7" ('Castles Made Of Man'/'Sacred Cows' [single version]), a previously-unreleased 19-minute studio rehearsal from the era, band pics, and reproductions of gig flyers & 7" labels."

Artist: JUNG MI, KIM
Title: Now
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8484
"Legendary femme acid folk masterpiece available again, now in a jewel box edition; this is an elusive album, difficult to explain, an album that seems to require a couple of listens before its excellence can be fully appreciated; Korean fuzz guitar master Shin Jung Hyun and his band The Men are the backing band, with their solid presence (and Shin Jung Hyuns guitar) evident throughout, sustaining a spacey West coast psychedelia vibe; every song has a similar tone, yet I would never accuse the music of being too much the same -- a neat trick; if Francoise Hardy is the Marianne Faithful of France, then Kim Jung Mi is, I suppose, the Francoise Hardy of Korea -- moody, melancholic, and sexy at the same time. A random note: one song from this album is featured on the Peace, Love and Dreams series -- maybe you've heard it, and wondered where to find the album."

Artist: MOPS, THE
Title: Psychedelic Sounds In Japan
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8485
"The Mops are one of Japan's best known 'Group Sound' (GS) bands, particularly noted for their psychedelic period. The group was founded in 1966 by high school friends Mikiharu Suzuki (drums), Taro Miyuki (guitar), Masaru Hoshi (lead guitar) and Kaoru Murakami (bass), playing mostly instrumental rock like that of the fabulously popular Ventures. The Mops album Psychedelic Sounds in Japan, released in April of 1968, was full of flower power flourishes, including cosmic artwork, ethnic clothing, fuzz guitars and sitar playing. It included covers of the Airplane's hits 'Somebody To Love' and 'White Rabbit,' The Doors' 'Light My Fire,' Eric Burdon's 'San Franciscan Nights' and The Animals' 'Inside Looking Out,' as well as the super Mops theme song 'I Am Just A Mops' (which later became a cult favorite after being included on the obscurities album Nuggets 2). Despite being widely considered a psychedelic band, the Mops' original songs were more garage band sounding. They also had a dark side that was very much not a hippie vibe. While most bands were playing love songs, The Mops album had a song called 'Blind Bird' about a terrible dark world, which contained the lyrics 'please kill me,' This led to the song being left off some reissues (but it is included on this one.)

Artist: CHEN, SHINKI
Title: Shinki Chen
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8486
"Wild pre-Speed Glue & Shinki album from 1971 of extra heavy fuzz guitar and truly wasted vocals, one of the absolute cornerstones of Japanese psychedelia. In fact, to many people, this is the ultimate psych album from Japan; it starts with a very strange-sounding, avant-garde phased tape machine track, before letting fly with the drug damaged histrionics -- onwards they come, one after the next, blunt Neanderthal songs about drugs and girls. Tracks such as 'Requiem of Confusion,' 'Gloomy Reflections' and the 'Corpse' tell you where its at for Shinki Chen."

Artist: HYUN & THE MEN, SHIN JUNG
Title: It's a Lie
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8487
"'My Job is to Make Rock Music in Korean Style'. Guitarist Shin Jung Hyun is considered the father of Korean rock music, his career beginning in the mid-50's playing at post-war US Army bases. During the late sixties and early seventies his garage bands Donkeys and Questions composed hit singles and provided backing for the popular female vocalists of the time, such as Kim Jung-Mi and the Pearl Sisters. But it is the 1972-1973 recordings with his psychedelic group The Men that gets the blood flowing of international rock music explorers. Due to commercial demands of the record labels, the original LP's were configured as a side of shorter, poppier tracks with guest singers, while the flip was where the band was allowed to 'stretch out'. World Psychedelia has selected three of the best of these longer excursions -- 'Beautiful Country', 'It's A Lie' and 'A Woman In The Mist' -- forty-four minutes of oil-emulsion-slide acid rock with fluid guitar, organ textures and an occasional ethnic woodwind to gently remind the listener that the origin is SK not SF."

Artist: SAN UL LIM
Title: 2
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8488
"Sizzling second album, which according to the liner notes, was released just five months after the band's first album; despite the fact that these early San Ul Lim records were made as late as 1977, they sound as if they could have been cut in the late '60s. San Ul Lim were ostensibly a trio-with the eldest brother on guitar, the youngest on drums and the middle playing bass; they also have their sister Kim Nan Suk playing keyboards -- a small oversight maybe for her never to get any credit on the records , as she has as big a role as her eldest brother when it comes to carrying the solos for the group, using a broad array of synths (a harpsichord Farfisa patch being popular) and electric pianos. The bass playing of the middle brother is also spirited. Not content to merely playing his role in the rhythm section and keeping harmony going, he has a tendency to keep busy with fast-moving scale fragments and melodies. A tougher sounding album than their rightly-lauded debut, the music became more psychedelic and impromptu; and as the notes tell us, 'Definitely the second album made them rock stars in Korea.' Korean rock specialists called the first three San Ul Lim albums 'the demo tape triple collection.' These are regarded as the band's best recordings 'because they made most songs on these albums between 1971 and 1975 (before their debut). Therefore the songs had their early originality and creativity.'"

Artist: ELLIE POP
Title: Ellie Pop
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8489
"Eponymous 1968 Mainstream label album is definitely a pop/psychedelic classic-in-waiting, whose time has perhaps finally come; great songs right from the start, all oozing Beatles harmonics, with tracks such as 'Some Time Ago' and 'Caught In the Rain' especially thick with Beatles influence (thus explaining their appearance on the Pepperisms compilation); as with most Mainstream releases, there is precious little information on the band in the original LP notes, besides the fact that they were a quartet, with brothers S. and R. Dunn responsible for writing all tracks; this is really a wonderful set of catchy and commercial songs, not exactly psychedelic, with innovative edge-distorted guitars and odd time signatures that make every song worth hearing. Naturally the album vanished without a trace upon original release, followed soon by the band. Liner notes feature a few words from the band's guitarist, as well as some gig listings alongside some Michigan heavy-weights, leading one to think that the band were from that state."

Artist: QUARTETO 1111
Title: Singles and EPs
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8490
"A band that featured the most legendary musician in Portuguese pop music history (Jose Cid, widely renowned in mellotron and progressive music circles), and yet this is the first chance we've had to hear anything by his legendary group; what we find is a very nicely packaged fifteen track collection of delicious melodic pop/psychedelia that leads off with Quarteto 1111's striking debut single 'A Lenda De El-Rei D. Sebastiao' from 1967, a song which changed the course of pop music in Portugal; as with any band of quality in that heady time, Quarteto 1111 (Jose Cid in particular) had run-ins with the politicos, which caused some of their output to be suppressed; yet, here are tracks from every year between 1967-1971, including their two English language songs 'Ode to the Beatles' and 'Back to the Country'; the Beatles were obviously a very big influence on Quarteto 1111, which is evident in everything from melodic construction of the songs, to use of backward tape effects, instrumentation, string arrangements, etc.); the booklet has some notes on the band's history, emphasizing the importance of 'A Lenda De El-Rei D. Sebastiao.' A poetic band, well-represented."

Artist: FLAVIOLA E O BANDO DO SOL
Title: Flaviola e o Bando do Sol
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8491
"Another great example of Brasilian 'psicodelia' from the collective of underground musicians in Recife, featuring Flávio Lira in the lead role, along with Lula Côrtes, Pablo Raphael, Robertinho of Recife, and Zé of the Flute. Of the crazy albums from this period, the Flaviola record Flaviola E O Banda Do Sol (Flaviola and the Flock of the Sun) is one of the rarest jewels. Although it was recorded the same year (1974) as Lula Côrtes and Zé Ramalho's Paębiru album, and with most of the same musicians, this is mainly an acoustic album, rife with poetic language and regional instruments, but also demonstrating the abundant energy of people involved in making something fresh and new. The cauldron of influence in Recife resulted in some very intriguing music, and the Flaviola album is no exception -- it's more intimate a trip than Paębirú, and more accessible an experience than Satwa; this is a brilliant album, full of strange moments (cellophane crinkled into the microphone as percussion), some deft acoustic guitar, and some of the prettiest songs this side of Vashti Bunyan. Notes are more or less in English, and hefty booklet includes lyrics too."

Artist: SELDA
Title: Vurulduk Ey Halkim Unutma Bizi
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8492
"It's no wonder that psychedelic crate-diggers, and self-proclaimed vinyl vultures Andy Votel and Dominic Thomas of Finders Keepers both have tracks by Selda included on their list of favorites: her take on Anatolian music is unique. This reissue features the second album (released in 1975) by this much beloved female Turkish protest singer, notorious for her clashes with Turkish governments; Selda and her acoustic guitar are accompanied here by a psychedelic rock band which includes members of Mogollar, and the result is is one of the best records we've heard from Turkey, for it includes 'Utan,Utan' (traditional folk sounds spiced with fuzz guitar) and 'Karaoglan'; a track like 'Askerin Türküsü' is interesting for its medieval arrangements, and 'Maden Dagi' is sung with great emotion. This is an album which was forbidden in Turkey, which means it has been hard to find since its release; includes eight early singles as bonus tracks, on which hearing Selda sing is as exhilarating an experience as the first time hearing Les Mysteres de Voix Bulgares or the manic warble of Liz Fraser. Notes in English give some background on Selda and the Anatolian rock sound; nice booklet also includes lyrics."

Artist: KIZILOK, FIKRET
Title: Fikret Kizilok
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)

"Collection of singles by Turkish protest singer much-beloved by young musicians in the underground scene in Turkey, but virtually unknown anywhere else; Fikret started his career playing electric guitar for Cahit Oben Dörtlüsü, which led to appearances in the Golden Microphone song contests that also spotlighted the talents of Erkin Koray, Mogollar and the brothers Hür El; Kizilok frequently collaborated with Bülent Ortaçgil (whose own Benimle Oynar Misin album is a lovely artefact of the Turkish scene), and no surprise -- it was Fikret's involvement with prominent folk poets as a result of their shared interest in traditional Anatolian folk music which was the foundation of his storied solo career; the fifteen tracks included here (all from 1970-1974) sport some heavy grooves ('Leylim, Leylim,' 'Gözlerinden Bellidir,' 'Gün Ola Devran Döne,' and the fuzz-guitar heavy 'Koyverdin Gittin Beni'), but also tantalizes with moody, introspective musings in an Eastern vein ('Akyin Vari, Akyin,' 'Haberin Var Mi' and the sitar-laced 'Köroglu Daglary.' Booklet has notes about the Altin Microphon contests, lyrics, and photos."

Artist: KORAY, ERKIN
Title: Erkin Koray
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8494
"First proper reissue of Koray's first album, an absolutely over the top debut album by the Turkish psychedelic guitar guru, which is not only the rarest of all of his albums, but also the rarest Turkish psychedelic album of them all; the record was released in 1973, but is actually culled from Koray's singles from the previous five years. This wide range of dates (1968-73) encompasses a pretty potent period in music, and makes for great variety; some tracks have a kind of pre-psychedelic vibe, while others have the swirling hashish heaviness of that most elusive thing, a sound that one might deem 'pure psychedelia'; in any case, every track has that unique Eastern feel that Koray brings to all his recordings. The end result is definitely on a par of greatness with Elektronik Turkuler, which makes this a must-have album for any psychedelic head! And as if that wasn't enough, there are eight incredible bonus cuts from the same period as the album tracks, only ever released as singles, that include some of the most blistering material Koray ever recorded. Wow! Liner notes have plentiful information on Erkin Koray's early career, as well as lyrics for some songs... alas, only in Turkish."

Artist: ASTERIADI WITH LAKIS PAPPAS, POPI
Title: Another Sunday Gone
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8495
Gray-area reissue of this Zodiac label album from Greece, 1969, plus 7 bonus tracks. "This is -- we feel -- quite simply some of the most beautiful music in a folk vein ever recorded; lovely, full of feeling, yet with the yearning and melancholy that usually only old, tired performers like Leonard Cohen can project into their singing... only in this case, it's a little Greek girl who looks like Jean Seberg and a young Greek boy with guitar who are making this early Sunday morning music! If you like the Bulent album this same label released last year, or Nick Drake, or anything in that general vein, than this will, we think, appeal to you. Evidently, this is a key album in the Greek neo kyma ('new wave') movement of the late 1960's, which saw young songwriters take musical themes from the bouzouki music of the hashish bars, and translate them into painful, fragile, innocent poetic musings on everyday life -- songs of intense longing, characterized by austere arrangements. In addition to the album, there are seven bonus tracks which appear to be some of Asteriadi's singles, as well as a track written by famous composer Manos Hadjidakis for a film called Aliki, My Love. Liner notes are all too brief, but they include memories of her early career by Asteriadi, as well as a couple of paragraphs on the neo kyma movement."

Artist: MATADORS
Title: Matadors
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8496
Gray-area reissue of this Supraphon album, from 196?, with 13 bonus tracks from various EPs of the same time. "Behind the Iron Curtain in the late 1960s, rock music was viewed as downright dangerous. The Matadors, from the former Czechoslovakia, were luckier than most, having enough artistic freedom to be able to sing in English, and even cover Western songs. This nicely packaged reissue includes their only album, as well as singles and other miscellaneous tracks, adding up to twenty-four songs in total. The material ranges from beat to psychedelia, and includes instrumentals, as well as vocal tracks sung in both Czech and English. While the covers are undeniably good, the original material is great. Songs like 'Hate Everything except of Hattered,' 'Indolence,' and 'Get Down from the Tree' (which was featured on Rhino's Nuggets II compilation) are intense rock performances propelled by Radim Hladík's sharp lead guitar work, and made mysterious by Jan 'Farmer' Obermajer's dark organ and Viktor Sodoma's accented vocals. Songs like the instrumental 'Extraction' are more psychedelic, begging comparison to Pink Floyd instrumentals like 'Interstellar Overdrive' and 'A Saucerful of Secrets,' sounding like both at times during its five minutes and fifty-one seconds. Terrific collection of one of the greatest of all bands trapped behind the Iron Curtain. Liner notes have band history, as well as some nice photos."

Artist: BLACKOUT
Title: Blackout
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8497
"At last a reissue of a great album that features some of the cheesiest organ sounds (meant in a good way) carved into wax in the 1960s; groovy and bizarre Hammond runs are present and accounted for, residing happily with the smart songs, the fine guitar playing, and the gravelly vocals of the band's singers (male and female), on the only album this Polish band ever saw released, just before they changed their name (to Breakout), and their sound (to progressive rock); they started as a beat band, albeit one addicted to the dark side of beat as demonstrated to them in person by Eric Burdon & the Animals; they developed their own weird sound, which was dubbed 'Big Beat' by someone clever -- a term that still exists in the former Eastern Bloc to describe this sort of offbeat (so to speak), wigged-out and intense home grown music; after some radio success, Blackout apparently recorded a slew of singles, some of which appear here as bonus tracks; twenty songs in all, mostly written by underground novelist and poet Bogdan Loebl, plus liner notes that include an interview with band-leader Tadeusz Nalepa as well as an overview of the recording industry in Poland in the 1960s. It's not every day you get historical background and interesting music in the same package!"

Artist: SAN UL LIM
Title: 3
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8498
Korean psych originally released on SRB in 1979. "Third album from inimitable Korean trio of brothers; they wanted to make this album 'as Western top class Hard-Rock music,' so they used only guitars, drums and bass and emerged as a power rock trio; the end result, of course, is not a 'Hard Rock' record at all. True, the record starts out with throat-shredding vocals and a guitar sound that is fuzzed-out and ominous sounding; but by track two, there are dreamy melodies; all's well that end's well, thanks to the 19-minute track that took up side two of the original LP -- droning fuzz guitar psychedelia at it's maniacal best. Korean rock specialists called the first three San Ul Lim albums 'the demo tape triple collection'. These are regarded as the band's best recordings 'because they made most songs on these albums between 1971 and 1975 (before their debut). Therefore the songs had their early originality and creativity.'"

Artist: JUNG MI, KIM
Title: Kim Jung Mi
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8499
Third reissue on this label of groovy Korean psychedelic pop with slight English folk flavors from Kim Jung Mi -- known throughout as the the "Francois Hardy of Korean pop." "This 1974 album shows a different side of the delectable Korean singer's personality, as she is called upon to front slinky mid-tempo rockers instead of the folk-inflected tracks of both the Nowand Wind records; this makes for some interesting music, including a cover version of Janis Joplin's 'Move Over'; the tracks all sound more than a year removed from Now and Wind, in part because of drastically better production values (this album was made for Jigu, unlike Kim Jung Mi's other releases), plus the addition of horns, organ, and even a string section; Shin Jung Hyun is still backing his protégé with characteristic guitar lines, so no loss of musical quality is evident."

Artist: JUNG MI, KIM
Title: Wind
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8500
"Album released the same year (1973) as the Now LP already issued by World Psychedelia; after one listen to it, it's difficult not be permanently hooked; the same basic formula is in place as on Now: cool but impassioned vocals from Kim Jung Mi, tasty call-and-response guitar licks from Shin Jung Hyun, and a steady pounding pulse from the rest of the band -- the only change here is that there's little evidence of acoustic guitars; it's the slower tracks, with their faintly Korean folk flavor (like tracks two and three, for example), that steal the show; a worthy successor to Now."

Title: This Is Our Sacrifice of Praise
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8501
"English Christian acid folk band produced their only recorded legacy -- this wonderful, pastoral record; an early 1970s album (released on Dovetail Records c. 1974) that has dreamy, moody production values, with special effects (nature sounds like sea gulls and babbling brooks) set against a beautiful landscape of acoustic guitar, soaring mellotron, flute, autoharp and male/female vocals; a couple of up-tempo songs act as a change of pace, but the ballads are the reason to be thankful for this record; and how can you go wrong as a Christian folk band, with actual Psalms as your lyrics? As Ken Scott's Vintage Vinyl Jesus Music guide says, 'turn the lights out, crank it up, and sail away.'"

Artist: NOSTRADAMOS
Title: Nostradamos
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8502
"Only record from short-lived Greek folk/rock band, first released on Zodiac in 1972. As the booklet text says, 'they made one record, being a quiet record, where the beautiful woman's voice of Despina Glezou makes a transparent impression, in songs which integrate Greek song styles into the elements of American rock and pop music. There are delicate parts, there are groovy parts -- but throughout the album there is a wonderful and a standardized impression. The melodies overflow. The wind that blows is an agreeable one. Other than guitar, bass and drums, there is violin and Hammond, the flute and something that sounds like French horn. It seems like pathos, it seems like folk rock, it seems that what we can all like is in all the band's pop songs. Whatever you like, maybe you don't stop wanting to hear this strange record. You can hear it now with sufficiently good sound, with the delicate nuance in evidence. It is transmitted.' Brief band history and discography included."

Artist: LEE, JANG HEE
Title: Meet Me In A Room
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8503
"Album from 1972, by one of Korea's most famous folk-singers of the early 1970s, first issued by Sung Eum, that features 'best production and trip vocal'; from the liner notes, 'While Japanese and American-style pop dominated the music scene after the Korean War, some young musicians playing acoustic guitars, started singing songs about love, nature and freedom. Then two singers, Song Chang-shik and Yoon Hyong-joo, released a historic duet album featuring acoustic guitars, for the first time in Korea. And a hippie named Han Dae-soo, Korea's first singer/songwriter, returned from the United States and held a concert singing a new type of song in 1969. Folk music in Korea was born in that year. The music touched the hearts of young fans and swept the university campuses and concert halls. Along with draft beer and blue jeans, the acoustic guitar became an obsession for youngsters. In the dark age of military rule, students sang folk songs yearning for freedom and democracy.'"

Artist: YOON, YOUN SUN
Title: Wing of Peace
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8504
"Another Korean folk classic, that also features 'best production and trip vocal.' Yoon Youn Sun's beautiful, brooding vocals breathe hope where before there was despair; there are retro-'60s touches that are reminiscent of French yé-yé music of the François Hardy, France Gall type -- sultry, yet nurturing a languid innocence; this album by Yoon Youn Sun was released in Korea in 1972, which makes Yoon Youn Sun a contemporary of Kim Jung Mi, which is a good reference point; the record has several modes: there are duets with a male singer; the songs that groove the best (tracks 5 & 6) occur when the Farfisa organ gets involved; the second half of the record features complex arrangements (a few strings find their way into the mix). Full-color discography included."

Artist: APHRODITE'S CHILD
Title: It's Five O'Clock
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8505
"Second of three albums from Vangelis Papathanassiou, Demis Roussos and Lucas Sideras (Aphrodite's Child), who fled from the Greek military junta to the relative safety of Paris and the 1968 student uprisings; the surprise success of the band's first album End of the World called for the release of another record, so the band began to prepare a return to the studio. What did not seem possible a year before now finally was, and the three Greeks traveled to London to record It's Five O'Clock in Trident Studios. The first single, 'Let Me Love, Let Me Live,' released in October 1969, made it to a number one position in the French charts, but it was the B-side 'Marie Jolie' that was most popular in the rest of Europe. The title track 'It's Five O'Clock' quickly followed the same path; released in December 1969, it did well in the charts of many European countries. Dream-like, baroque, carefully crafted pop/psych with English lyrics, in some ways very much in the style of English bands of the era, but with that little twist that makes it very special; three bonus tracks including rare singles; lyrics and photos too in the 16-page booklet."

Artist: KOSUGI, TAKEHISA
Title: Catch-Wave
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8506
Gray-area reissue, previously out on CD via the Showboat label. "Takehisa Kosugi is without doubt one of the most important and influential figures of the Japanese avant-garde still performing. Over the years he has worked with everyone from John Cage to Sonic Youth as well as being an active member of the Fluxus group and starting his own performance units Group Ongaku and the Taj Mahal Travellers. His album Catch-Wave, originally released in 1975, features on side A 'an excerpt from a meta-media solo improvisation' utilizing heavily-processed violin, voice, radio and oscillators (the latter modified via wind and light) to create a massive drone. Side B is 'a triple performance by a solo vocalist' where a vocal phrase is taken and electronically modified until it loses any meaning other than as part of the wave form.' Booklet contains biography, and discography for this important avant-garde performer."

Artist: MANSET, GERARD
Title: La Mort D'Orion
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8507
"Manset, a self proclaimed 'lifelong rebel and eternal failure,' released his debut album in May of '68, just as the students were manning the ramparts. But it wasn't until La Mort D'Orion was released in 1970 that he really entered the public consciousness. The record is a thrillingly ambitious concept album of orchestral psych for which the self-taught Manset wrote all the music, lyrics, and arrangements. The title track runs nearly 25 minutes long, with an epic sweep that seems to encompass and distill all the finest French modernism has to offer, from Mallarmé and Nerval in its literary pretensions to the sonic advancements in studio sound pioneered by the likes of Pierre Schaffer and Pierre Henry. Moments of seemingly normal French chanson give way to subtle and psychologically disorienting manipulations of orchestral trappings -- the results are very dark, very beautiful, and quite unlike anything you'd expect from French popular music. Creepy in some parts, at others 'serious' psychedelic/avant prog, with abundant dark orchestrated atmospheres. A masterpiece! A hefty booklet (20 pages) contains biographical information and lyrics."
