DIVINE FREQUENCY
Artist:
CARTER TUTTI
Title:
Feral Vapours of the Silver Ether
Label:
DIVINE FREQUENCY
Format:
CD
Price:
$16.00
Catalog #:
DIVF 007CD
"Conspiracy International and Divine Frequency are pleased to announce the much-anticipated new album by Carter Tutti, entitled
Feral Vapours of the Silver Ether
. Almost three years in the making, the eleven tracks on
Feral Vapours
mark an exciting and fecund sonic development for the influential electronic duo, as always with a glance to the past and a hard stare to the future. With their previous album
Cabal
(Conspiracy International 2004), Carter and Tutti initiated their new phase with a gentler and strikingly emotional collection of songs, and on
Feral Vapours
this renewed vision takes center stage: the album is awash with echoes of the sea, the moon, the open road, and flatlands. Nature oozes through songs such as 'Torn Window' and 'Forest Floor,' and the electronic and the acoustic are merged in a seamless, crafted, dense electronic masterpiece that is sure to become an important milestone in their already vast, eclectic body of work. Their renowned classic heartbeat dance grooves have become more subtle, the rhythmic, orchestral beats and massive bass undercurrents that have made Chris Carter one of the UK's foremost electronic composers are made fleshy and womb-like; Cosey's elemental vocals glide over these songs, occasionally mediated by her virtuoso slide-guitar glissandos and striations and a splash of gutsy, raunchy cornet.
Feral Vapours
stands as one of Carter Tutti's most important releases to date -- a rich and accessible collection of electronic torch songs that is sure to appeal to any fan of intelligent, sensitive and innovative music. This U.S. edition includes a bonus track and is packaged in a full-color digipak."
DUB POLICE (UK)

VA
Title:
License to Thrill Part One
Label:
DUB POLICE (UK)
Format:
12"
Price:
$11.50
Catalog #:
DP 013EP
3-part 12" series. "A-side: Caspa - 'Ooh R Ya': Kicking off the
License To Thrill
series is the long-awaited banger, 'Ooh R Ya.' This one has been battered by the likes of N-Type, Rusko, The Others and of course, Caspa. It's an 'in your face stomper,' with an absolutely outrageous bass line with bundles of energy and signature sample, Caspa sets the pace for the
License To Thrill
series. Side B1: Orien - 'Equinox': the debut track from the latest edition to the Dub Police camp: West London's Orien. This one is a spaced-out roller with warping, squelching bass lines and eerie growling synths that keep you moving; expect to hear more forthcoming Dub Police material from the man like Orien. Side B2: L-Wiz - 'Mary Jane': Dub Police veterans L-Wiz come with another melodic dubwize track that has been in public demand for a while now. This is standard L-Wiz business, with dubbed-out horns, plucked spacey guitars and a deep weighty sub. This one's a right Bobby Dazler from Stockholm's finest and adds a nice diversity to the EP."

License to Thrill Part Two
Label:
DUB POLICE (UK)
Format:
12"
Price:
$11.50
Catalog #:
DP 014EP
"A1. Rusko - 'Original Cut': Rusko strikes again, with another devastating anthem that has gained support from Skream, Hatcha, Tubby and N-Type, to name a few. With its cheeky melodies, rasta man samples and a seriously heavy bass line, this won't fail to disappoint. Fans of tracks like 'Jahova,' will be digging this one for sure; dub-driven madness from the man of the moment. B1. Matty G - 'Street Knowledge': Matty G comes with another earth shattering monster of a tune here; and fans of his '50,000 Watts' style tracks will not be disappointed. If sub-low bass that rattles your chest plate and old skool beats laced with hip-hop samples is your cup of tea, this is the one for you. B2. Dubwoofa - 'Devoliz': Dub Police newbie's Dubwoofa make their debut in fine style here. The track has a dark, epic and mystical feel to it, with big reverbed beats, a low rumbling sub bass and brilliant atmospheric pads and instrumentation, this is just a taste of things to come from these guys."

License to Thrill Part Three
Label:
DUB POLICE (UK)
Format:
12"
Price:
$11.50
Catalog #:
DP 015EP
"A1. Conquest - 'Forever': West London's Conquest kicks off Part 3 of the
License To Thrill
series with this deep and soulful track that has gained from support from the likes of Chef, D1 and Caspa, amongst others. With its clever and well-chosen sampling, sweet melodies, tribal driven beats and thumping bass it's a sure winner. B1. The Others - 'Light Up Your Spliff': following on from their recent Dub Police single; The Others' long-awaited 'Light Up Your Spliff' finally sees plastic. With sharp amen breaks under a stomping beat, a vicious bass line and the catchy vocal courtesy of The Bush Chemists, this is bound to get any dancefloor moving; more dark, moody bass action from D-Code and Dexterous. B2. Kromestar - 'Focuz': rounding off the EP is the Dub Police debut for South London's Kromestar. This techno-driven stomper has been battered by all the big guns and is sure to get you skanking. With a big dark 4x4 beat, a weighty bass and dirty techno stabs, this one is a serious neck -reaker. Another massive release for the ever-growing Dub Police."
DUSTY GROOVE
Artist:
DELLS, THE
Title:
The Dells Sing Dionne Warwick's Greatest Hits
Label:
DUSTY GROOVE
Format:
CD
Price:
$12.00
Catalog #:
DGA 3007CD
"Chess Records takes on the music of Burt Bacharach, with amazing results -- thanks to deep soul vocals from The Dells and impeccable production from the legendary Charles Stepney! The album's a tremendous meeting of minds, as The Dells really transform Bacharach's amazing compositions -- giving them depth and feeling in ways that are quite different from any other renditions of the songs. The arrangements by Stepney are amazing too -- on a par with his famous work with Minnie Ripperton, Rotary Connection, and Ramsey Lewis -- as majestic as Burt Bacharach might have wanted, but with a very different approach to rhythm, timing, and overall conception. Instrumentation is by Stepney, Phil Upchurch, and members of The Pharaohs -- plus a full string section as well. Another baroque soul classic from the glory days of the Chicago soul scene!"
ECSTATIC PEACE

MV & EE WITH THE GOLDEN ROAD
Title:
Gettin' Gone
Label:
ECSTATIC PEACE
Format:
2LP
Price:
$23.00
Catalog #:
E#109BLP
Double vinyl version, gatefold sleeve. "A new sound has organically evolved that will most certainly astonish listeners new & old, but still find a special place on the formidable shelf of their back catalog. So rejoice in this disc, which boasts some of MV & EE's most finely-crafted songs to date and along with The Golden Road present a feast of tones & riffs that will stick to your ribs for a long time. Like its predecessor,
Gettin' Gone
is a family affair of like-minded freak and friendly hair waves. Most fascinating is the Ecstatic Peace! soundboard premier of Zuma, one of the coolest dog minds north of New York City. Also the one part golden addition of Doc Dunn and the harmonium magic of Luisa, she of Mascis child. Oh and J his self blams some mountain heavy drumming on a few of these tracks. Matt and Erika's devotional dharma is open to all true vibes of rock n' roll and folk n' roots ramble both tender and tuff."

"Nagoski has been one of the most heartfelt progenitors of electronic, psychedelic soundfields of the past decade, having produced three solo full-lengths in tiny editions and contributing his sounds on record with the likes of Joe McPhee, Jack Rose, Six Organs of Admittance, Pelt, and Magali Babin and collaborating live with Tom Carter. Nautical Almanac, Andy Hayleck, Donald Miller and many others. A record shop owner and writer, he has published in
Halana

The Wire

, and elsewhere. His slow-moving soundfields have been praised in print by Bruce Russell, Chris Corsano, Campbell Kneale, John Berndt, Thurston Moore, Jerome Noetinger and many other peers. This is his first solo outing in four years, apart from his recent, widely-praised anthology of early 20th-century, foreign music collection
Black Mirror: Reflections in Global Musics (1918-1955)
on the Dust-to-Digital label."
EINMALEINS (GERMANY)
Artist:
DER SCHMEISSER (FEAT. JONNY & DER TIETZ)
Title:
Francis EP
Label:
EINMALEINS (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$11.50
Catalog #:
EINMAL 027EP
"Einmaleins 27 hosts the music of one of the first artists that released on this label 3 years ago. Der Schmeisser provides 2 tracks for this release and a remix by the French 3-member group, DOP that has been in and about the last year in the scene. First on the EP is 'Minimailundwir,' a slow dark track with random vocals perfect for afterhours. The second track is 'Live for Life,' with more powerful sound and sound games all through its extend. On the B-side we find the remix of 'Minimailundwir' by DOP. A more stripped down interpretation, grooves made by all the main elements of the original and swirling synths."
EL RECORDS (UK)
Artist:
KHAN/USTAD VILAYAT KHAN, USTAD ALI AKBAR
Title:
Psychedelic Music of India
Label:
EL RECORDS (UK)
Format:
CD
Price:
$17.00
Catalog #:
ACMEM 121CD
"Both regarded as absolute masters in their homeland, Ustad Ali Akbar Khan and Ustad Vilayat Khan, exact contemporaries and sarod and sitar players respectively, are in India spoken of with the same reverence that is usually reserved for Ravi Shankar. Of course, both are familiar to students of the genre of Indian classical music in the West (Vilayat Khan is known for his famous score to the Merchant Ivory film
The Guru
) but the commercial potential of their incredible art is only now beginning to be realized. Like Shankar, their work is hypnotic and spellbinding, realized by flawless technique through a lifetime of devotion to their music."

Title:
The Changing of the Guard: The Sixties London Pop Explosion
Label:
EL RECORDS (UK)
Format:
CD
Price:
$17.00
Catalog #:
ACMEM 127CD
"
The Changing of the Guard
is a unique music and dialogue sound collage of Swinging London in 1968; a time of exciting developments in all the artistic fields and a time when England set cultural standards that the world is still trying to emulate. Protagonists central to the scene are included here: Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones discussing revolution; his manager Andrew Loog Oldham explaining business philosophy; the young Michael Caine debating morals in the context of the permissive society; Julie Christie on fame and Lee Marvin on mini-cars and mini-skirts! The dialogue is edited against brilliant historic London pop of the period: big hits such as The Small Face's 'Itchychoo Park' and 'Here Come The Nice,' Chris Farlowe's memorable number one 'Out of Time,' 'If Paradise is Half as Nice' by The Amen Corner and mercurial psychedelia; The Marquis of Kensington, Fleur De Lys, Duncan Browne, Billy Nicholls and the first line up of Humble Pie featuring Steve Marriott and 'the Face Of 1968,' Peter Frampton. Special mention too for an early song from Vashti. The success of Andrew Oldham's two recent autobiographies confirms that there has never been more fascination with the period, even if some of it is nostalgia for what we have subsequently unfortunately lost."
Artist:
PANDIT, KORLA
Title:
The Grand Moghul Suite/The Universal Language of Music
Label:
EL RECORDS (UK)
Format:
CD
Price:
$17.00
Catalog #:
ACMEM 128CD
...
Volume 1
. "Most exotic and enigmatic of all of the artists of what is broadly described as the 'exotica' genre, Korla Pandit's astounding early concept albums are here together restored to the catalog for the first time in five decades. A kind of Indian Ziggy Stardust, Korla Pandit's work is taken extremely seriously and is extremely collectable amongst followers of Martin Denny, Les Baxter and Esquivel. Pandit's Wurlitzer has a strange David Lynch quality to it and has aged very well."
Artist:
SATIE, ERIK
Title:
Socrate/Mass For The Poor/Piano Pieces by Francis Poulenc
Label:
EL RECORDS (UK)
Format:
CD
Price:
$17.00
Catalog #:
ACMEM 130CD
"These recordings of Erik Satie's symphonic drama
Socrate
(1916) and the beautiful
Mass for the Poor
are both very rare. They have been out of print for five decades and here are restored and released digitally for the first time. Erik Satie's compositions have been recorded by such diverse musicians as John Cage, Gary Numan, Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett and one of his greatest admirers was Frank Zappa! Erik Satie has an international fan-base amongst whom he has attained god-like status. These completists alone will deliver good sales. Satie's sumptuous melodies (what he described as 'Furniture Music') remain attractive to the modern ear; compositions such as 'Gymnopedies' (included here in a performance by Francis Poulenc from 1956) are amongst the most famous of the 20th century. Classical, avant-garde and independent outlets the world over, should all do well with this little beauty."
