New Releases for October 2007
Artist:
CLAYTON/SUTEKH, KIT
Title:
I Left My Heart In San Francisco
Label:
ADJUNCT (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
ADJUNCT 016EP
"The names of Joshua Kit Clayton and Sutekh need little introduction. The two residents of the city by the bay have released inspiring records on the now-classic Californian imprints Cytrax and Delay, as well as on the brilliant labels Force Inc, ~scape, Background and Soul Jazz. Kit Clayton's 'Loroco' is a synthesizer purist anthem. Raw sawtooth patterns charge forward, dense tribal drum beats jab and jagger rendering the exotic flower reference of the title irrelevant. Jorge Savoretti invites friend Lucas Mari for a ritual burning of the original. The two let the fires smolder and the ashes dance, a swarm of electric bees is out for the precious honey of the 'Loroco.' Sutekh delivers a track we'd like to label an instant classic. The beat is electro, twisted rhythms gurgle through the track, gracious synthesizer melodies flow from the machines of a digital troubadour. In Dilo's rework, the original melody dances and flirts with his Latin rhythms in ecstatic celebration above the blue and windy southern seas. A musical interpretation of child-like exuberance and awe takes this little cart of a 12" no closer than halfway to the stars."

comp on Cavity Search records. (Literally, the title is

ANAZITISI (GREECE)
Artist:
MORKA
Title:
There Was A Time...
Label:
ANAZITISI (GREECE)
Format:
LP
Price:
$36.00
Catalog #:
ARLP 70-12
"Probably the best psychedelic band that ever came from Greece. With Greek members coming from Greece, USA and Canada and with a British female vocalist,
There Was A Time...
is here to blow your mind away!!! The band begun in 1970 as Stone Deep and is responsible for the production of the rarest Greek private single nowadays. Followed by many line-up changes, Morka presented two more singles for Greek Polydor in 1972 and the next year they made their 7-track magnus-opus demo. This album contains all their 3 singles plus the 7 tracks released back in 1973. All the elements that make an album to be a treasure for the psychoheads are present. Excellent male-female vocals (all but one sung in English), lots of harmonies and melodies, tons of fuzzy guitars and bombastic drum breaks. The late '60s American psychedelic and the early '70s British acid-folk influences are obvious in this album but Morka play their own game. Do not let it pass by!!! Comes in a gatefold (unipak) cover, with a front-cover painting by Pamela Leake -- Morka's female singer -- with lots of photos and memorabilia, band bio, insert with the lyrics and a big-sized (40x60cm) poster -also Leake's painting. The album also contains a totally unreleased song by a 1986 Morka reincarnation."

POLL
Title:
Poll
Label:
ANAZITISI (GREECE)
Format:
LP + 7"
Price:
$51.00
Catalog #:
ARLP 70-14-7
Exact reissue of the second Poll album, originally issued in 1972. "Original 12-page full-colored comic book, gatefold cover plus extra 4-pages insert with photos/memorabilia/lyrics (in Greek and English) attached inside the comic book, high quality card, 180 gram vinyl. POLL formed in 1971. Moving from hippie-rock to electric folk-rock they managed to get themselves in the top ranks of the Greek '70s rock pantheon. Both of their albums (originally released on Polydor) contain well-structured songs with lyrics of high sensitivity. Acoustic, electric and 12-string guitars, organ, piano, percussion and drums along with a lot of harmonies from the male and female vocalists. But also the covers of their albums were amazing and inventive!!!! The first one "Anthrope" (1971) had a flaxen bag -- like the peasants' knapsacks -- as a cover and included a poster and a lyrics booklet. The second, same-titled one (1972), was recorded at the same time that the band was ready to split. Inside its gatefold cover there was a 12-page comic book where the 4 members of the group were "superheroes." The story of the comic (made by Kostas Tournas himself) was describing the short life of the POLL, from their birth till their final recordings. Just after the split, Kostas Tournas released his magnus opus "Aperanta Chorafia" and some months later, Stavros Logaridis presented "Akritas." Two of the best Greek rock albums ever. Both of them have already been re-released by ANAZITISI Records. These POLL official reissues, are from the master tapes and have the same covers as the original ones.
Anthrope
will contain the first POLL single (1971) while
S/T
will contain their second one (1972). As usual, 180 gram vinyl."

HOMESTEAD & WOLFE
Title:
Our Times
Label:
ANAZITISI (GREECE)
Format:
LP
Price:
$36.00
Catalog #:
ARLP 70-16
"We're proud to announce the first-ever vinyl reissue of Homestead & Wolfe's lone and excellent album. One of the most unknown artifacts that ever came from the American psych-folk land. Originally released in 1975 by TOPO records. This is an official reissue, fully licensed by Ernie Bringas (H&W founder) and Anopheles Records. It has an exact reproduction of the original cover, label, 4-page insert and poster as well as extra triptych insert with bio and photos. Two extra tracks are also included."
"Despite being recorded at Gold Star in L.A. and featuring heavy session names such as Hal Blaine and Al Casey, this irresistible femme-vox melodic folk rock/psych delight has remained mysteriously unknown for 30 years. You'll be hard-pressed to find faults with its mix of various late 1960s California styles, ranging from lyte Neighb'rhood Child'n top 40 psych over Carolyn Hester Coalition/Yankee Dollar folk moves into all-out West Coast acid rock a la Ill Wind."

Wind [Patagonia]
Label:
AND/OAR
Format:
CD
Price:
$12.00
Catalog #:
AND 027CD
"An immersion into the sonic matter from micro- and macro-environments dominated by wind in Patagonia. A vast barren space shaped and inhabited by the ever-changing forces of unmuted plants, rocks, sand, snow, and ice. An irregular broad-band environment of relentless strength and richness. And above all, a tour de force of profound listening."
ANIMAL DISGUISE
Artist:
MAMMAL
Title:
Lonesome Drifter
Label:
ANIMAL DISGUISE
Format:
CD
Price:
$11.00
Catalog #:
ADR 100CD
"'This is both the end and the beginning,' says the back cover. And with each successive release, Mammal shows us what the end is, or at least that he's definitely thinking about it. This album takes his ideas from the past up to another level as it tells a story of drifting through life until 'the beginning had already become the end.' A more personal array of ideas are on display here (including clearly audible vocals) and make the entire package the most effective Mammal release yet. Recorded during 6 months of isolation at his home in Detroit, Mammal's 4th full-length is an epic soundtrack to the industrial depression of the city.
Lonesome Drifter
is guitar/bass heavy while still retaining the grating textures and hypnotic repetition one would expect from Mammal. However, those looking for the constant, heavy electronics found on past releases may be sorely disappointed. In short, this is brooding, psychedelic, loner blues, and a brand new chapter in the story of Mammal. Animal Disguise Recordings is proud to present
Lonesome Drifter
featuring cover art by Mammal himself."

ART ENSEMBLE OF CHICAGO

AECO 008CD
...
Live at the Frankfurt, Germany Jazz Festival with Don Pullen
. "Now, the production team at AECO has once more gone through the archives and come up with another gem, culminating in the recent release of
Fundamental Destiny
, a record of a live 1991 Art Ensemble concert given in early June of that year at the Frankfurt, Germany Jazz Festival. All the members of the ensemble are present: Lester Bowie on trumpet, Joseph Jarman on woodwinds and percussion, Roscoe Mitchell on woodwinds and percussion, Malachi Favors Moghostut playing both bowed and pizzicato bass and percussion, and Famoudou on drums and percussion. What makes this release all the more special is that, like Kabalaba and The Chicago Blues Tradition, they invited a renowned keyboard artist to perform with them, in this case the late Don Pullen. He adds another group of ideas to the already interesting chordal landscape of the four compositions. Plus, there is that ever-present life energy of the band that he compliments, especially on his solo on the Joseph Jarman-penned title track."
ASTERISK
Artist:
JOHNNY LUNCHBREAK
Title:
Appetizer/Soup's On
Label:
ASTERISK
Format:
CD
Price:
$14.00
Catalog #:
ASTERISK 001CD
"A label from the Numero Group that brings you great lost classics in full LP form. Each sequentially numbered Asterisk release features remastered original recordings in original sequence in LP-styled jackets with original covers plus artist photos and liner notes from the crate-digging crew at Numero. The complete recordings of a band no one was ever meant to hear. Originally issued in an acetate pressing of four (one for each member), the near on 35-year lunch break is over for this Connecticut group of wanna-Bee Gees. They aimed for Gibb but somehow ended up being the working man's Velvets. They recorded 'Exile' but the playback copy had 'Marquee Moon' scribbled on it. So far ahead that they're standing right behind you." Recorded 1974-75.
