DRECK (UK)

Artist: STRATEGY
Title: Pacific Agenda
Label: DRECK (UK)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: DRK 014EP
"Strategy is on a roll and Dreck is very pleased to release a follow-up EP to his fantastic Future Rock album, which came out earlier this year on Kranky to much critical acclaim. Strategy continues to blend different genres and influences, creating very organic and unique sounding tracks that meander between dub, house and techno culminating in analog warmth and love. 'Pacific Agenda' on the A-side kicks off with Profan-like offbeat stabs only then to surprise with lovely Rhodes keys and hand-played percussion. The flip side's 'Julydub' is a dubby house track drenched in spring reverb and carried by an incredibly deep bassline. Strategy is Portland based Paul Dickow, who's been making a name for himself as a producer, DJ and curator of Community Library, a record label he runs with David Chandler (aka Solenoid) which releases music varying from house to noise. Paul has recorded for various labels including ORAC and Kranky, he has also remixed tracks for DFA and Tigerbeat6 to name just a few."

Artist: ANTONELLI
Title: Boogie EP
Label: DRECK (UK)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: DRK 015EP
"Dreck Records, home to Secondo, AM/PM and just recently, Portland's Strategy, is very pleased to welcome the second external signing to its label: the Düsseldorf-based Stefan Schwander, known to electronic music as Antonelli, Antonelli Electr, Repeat Orchestra and Rhythm Maker, among others. He co-founded the Cologne-based minimal techno-pop label, Italic, in 1999, which has released the larger part of his work to date. Antonelli (at the time with the suffix Electr) made his mark on the scene with his seminal debut album Me, The Disco Machine (1999) and the follow up LP, Click (2000). This release sees Dreck Records continuing with their double A-side format bringing together two full-length boogie whoppers by Antonelli from either end of his musical spectrum. 'Be, Bop and Boogie' is an extended, bouncy and intrinsically uplifting disco-dub-track, 'Boogie,' as the track-title suggests, for everybody on the dancefloor in post-summer holiday mode, fresh, healthy and flirty. This is the track everyone will dance to until the nights get shorter again. 'Zabriskie' is a little darker but never sinister. In no hurry it builds up to its full glory and rewards the listener with a set of beautiful synth-washes in the latter half of the record, which will make you want to set the needle back and wait in anticipation for that sweet, sweet moment again and again."

DUB ASSEMBLY (UK)

Artist: MUNDO
Title: Down In The South/Dub Of The Dreads
Label: DUB ASSEMBLY (UK)
Format: 10"
Price: $11.00
Catalog #: DA 005EP
"The Dallas don of righteous works lands with an all new plate, describing a brave new world of dubstep possibility. This 10" cleverly unites a previously ignored, nearly umbilical connection between chopped and screwed three six mafia Texan style and maximum UK bass ruffage, all spun through the deepest Dub Assembly sound chambers, going on the last weeks recent live outings around the UK - Mundo is a pioneering force to be followed closely at all times."

Artist: MUNDO
Title: Low/U Get None
Label: DUB ASSEMBLY (UK)
Format: 10"
Price: $11.00
Catalog #: DA 006EP
"By far and away the best thing this producer has put his name to yet. You can't get any clearer than labelling your track 'Low' - especially when it truly is one of the most f*cked up examples of slowed down, decimated BASS engineering you'll hear this year. The track travels at a deceptively slow skank, looped and dominated by a solitary, slowed down vocal sample and a heaving low-end rumble that never seems to relent. This is EXACTLY the sh*t we're talking about - heavy, hypnotic, original primal reductions designed to destroy all but the finest bass bins and echo in your head for days on end - PLAY LOUD!!! 'U Get None' on the flip is equally impressive, like a slowed down Jungle mash-up played on a broken turntable - angry, demented and endlessly heavy sh*t written and delivered without compromise. KILLER!!!"

DUB POLICE (UK)

Artist: N-TYPE/THE OTHERS
Title: Way Of The Dub (Caspa Remixes)
Label: DUB POLICE (UK)
Format: 12"
Price: $11.00
Catalog #: DP 011EP
A1. N-Type - Way Of The Dub (Caspa rmx), A2. The Others - Bushido (Caspa rmx).

EARSUGAR (UK)

Artist: TARWATER
Title: Tar Babies/Strawberry Statement
Label: EARSUGAR (UK)
Format: 7"
Price: $7.00
Catalog #: EARSUG 037EP
"Extraordinary new 7" from Tarwater, landing out of nowhere on the excellent Earsugar Jukebox imprint, now also situated in the band's hometown of Berlin. 'Tar Babies' plays out the label's charmed mission for finding perfect pop from parallel universes. Here Lippok intones nonchalantly over a definitive, Madchester flavored, disco dub. For our money though, its the awesome 'Strawberry Statement' on the flip which defines this record --modulating out of a Chronomad-esque beats and Raster-ized bass vamp into some gorgeous lilting and lonesome guitar-drenched psychedelics. Heavy indeed!" Pressed on red vinyl.

Artist: GUT, GUDRUN
Title: Pleasure Train/Pleasure Version
Label: EARSUGAR (UK)
Format: 7"
Price: $7.00
Catalog #: EARSUG 038EP
"The second 7" in Gudrun's ongoing love affair with the Earsugar label, 'Pleasure Train' is drawn from Gudrun's latest unique, off-kilter pop album for her own Monika Enterprises. The 'Pleasure Version' on the flip is exclusive to this 7", cooked up in a cloudy studio, with Fehlmann lurking not so far away -- its dubness offsetting the pop impact of the top-side perfectly. Highly recommended."

EARWAX (UK)

Artist: MRK1
Title: Bones/Steppa Delights
Label: EARWAX (UK)
Format: 12"
Price: $11.00
Catalog #: EAR 005EP
"It's grim up north, eh lad? No matter though, as Manchester's MRK1 pulls out another quality release for us Earwax southerners. 'Bones' is a big-boy banger of a tune -- drop heavy, run for cover bassline business -- no messing about, just draw it back and run again. You can hear hints of Coki and Skream in this one, but there's no mistaking MRK1's tight production ethic and his characteristic sound palette. It might not win many prizes for innovation but there is no doubt that 'Bones' will set off the dancefloor every time. Currently getting plays from Pinch, Skream, Distance, Cyrus and many others. 'Steppa Delights' is a cheeky lil' 4/4 dub number that perfectly crosses into dubstep sets, being at 140bpm. Laid back on every front other than the bass weight, this rhythm is an excellent exercise in gut wrenching sub power and soothing melody -- one for the late night skankers. Being played by old school dub heads such as Dubkasm and new school dubsteppers such as Skull Disco's Appleblim, Pinch, Skream, Distance, Cyrus, Joker, Peverelist, and many more."

ECHOCORD (GERMANY)

Artist: MODESTE VS SOULINTERFACE
Title: Stronger Through Pain EP
Label: ECHOCORD (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: ECHO 026EP
Presenting Modeste aka Agnés from Geneva & his friend Soulinterface, who has released on labels like Minibar, Plak, 60Sec and Resopal. Modeste's productions are typically deep & dubby, but groovy and often party-oriented. Two deeper dubby floating tracks plus two tracks for the floor, one with dubstep influences but still with a 4/4 beat.

ECSTATIC PEACE

Artist: MAGIK MARKERS
Title: BOSS
Label: ECSTATIC PEACE
Format: CD
Price: $11.00
Catalog #: E#100F
"When confronted with an example of magnificence in nature, such as a waterfall, Jane Goodall reported that the chimpanzees she observed were captivated, as if in awe of the beauty of the world. On BOSS, the Magik Markers have tried to capture the chimps' awe. A formality and restraint the Markers have never exerted on their previously recorded material is present on BOSS. Now the Markers are Jainists, with their mouths masked so as to not inhale even one tiny insect, here pursuing the killer gentle with a vengeance. Recorded in the cavernous dark of Echo Canyon West, with producer Lee Ranaldo working the boards like a diviner, BOSS documents the Markers with a previously unheard fidelity and orchestration. Idiosyncratic song structure and melodies interspersed with a destructive drum stomp are reminiscent of the early electrified blues of Junior Kimbrough, or the black hole rhythms of Kousokuya. Mixing a gentle vulnerability with a winded egomania, the Markers have always had a musical tunnel vision; BOSS is that vision made manifest. The tug of war the Markers enact, the way they are fully prepared to start yanking their world apart as they find themselves losing their place in, makes moot possibilities of greatness or mediocrity. It makes them unapologetic soothsayers with their ears pressed to the ground, waiting for footsteps. With Peter Nolan, we finally hear what Lou Reed would have sounded like had he sallied with the drums instead of getting seduced by the easy praise of front man status. Like Rashid Ali squeezed into the Teutonic leather pants of Faust, Nolan drums like there are hell hounds at his heels but he just can't be bothered. Here both laconic and frenzied, Nolan's drumming arms reach out like an octopus': tickling the ivories, humming the organ and blasting taps on some kind of endtime trumpet. As a pianist, Nolan reminds us that the piano is a percussive, beating out the whoomp of some old war dance, a bare foot-fall rhythm of fighters to battle and the heavy hands of a whiskey burlesque in the afternoon. Nolan is easy to underestimate, but finally, here is high fidelity record of the strange soul of one of America's most natural and quizzical musical minds."

Artist: MV & EE WITH THE GOLDEN ROAD
Title: Gettin' Gone
Label: ECSTATIC PEACE
Format: CD
Price: $11.00
Catalog #: E#109B
"Still riding high on the glorious steed that was Green Blues (heads are still processing its smoked grooves and wild-at-heart paeans to love and kosmiche carnality), Matt Valentine and Erika Elder entered a Western Mass studio armed with enough fresh material to choke a whole team of horses. You may ask, 'how can this be?' Well, since recording their Ecstatic Peace! debut, the duo has toured extensively, all the while writing tunes, scavenging esoteric guitar equipment & revamping their backing band to suit the environment of Gettin' Gone. A new sound has organically evolved that will most certainly astonish listeners new & old, but still find a special place on the formidable shelf of their back catalog. So rejoice in this disc, which boasts some of MV & EE's most finely-crafted songs to date and along with The Golden Road present a feast of tones & riffs that will stick to your ribs for a long time. Like its predecessor, Gettin' Gone is a family affair of like-minded freak and friendly hair waves. Most fascinating is the Ecstatic Peace! soundboard premier of Zuma, one of the coolest dog minds north of New York City. Also the one part golden addition of Doc Dunn and the harmonium magic of Luisa, she of Mascis child. Oh and J his self blams some mountain heavy drumming on a few of these tracks. Matt and Erika's devotional dharma is open to all true vibes of rock n' roll and folk n' roots ramble both tender and tuff."

EINMALEINS (GERMANY)

Artist: SWEET N' CANDY
Title: 47 Pancakes & One Joint EP
Label: EINMALEINS (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $10.00
Catalog #: EINMAL 025EP
"Einmaleins is happy to have Sweet'n'Candy back. Since his first release on the label, he has been doing great work and now comes back to the label with his 47 Pancakes + One Joint EP. On the A-side, 'The Green' is a quirky tight techno track with surrounding sounds giving a playful character to the track. The B-side 'Pancakes' is a dark techno track with great heavy bassline evolving all the time and incorporating a great cut half way that makes the come-back shake the soundsystem!"

EMANEM (UK)

Artist: TRIO OF UNCERTAINTY
Title: Unlocked
Label: EMANEM (UK)
Format: CD
Price: $19.00
Catalog #: EMANEM 4141CD
"Veryan Weston (piano), Hannah Marshall (cello) & Satoko Fukuda (violin).
