IMPORTANT RECORDS
Artist:
FAHEY, JOHN
Title:
The Mill Pond & Collected Paintings
Label:
IMPORTANT RECORDS
Format:
CD
Price:
$13.00
Catalog #:
IMPREC 183CD
"
The Mill Pond
was originally released in 1997 as a double 7" that went immediately out of print. For its 10th anniversary, we're issuing it on compact disc housed in a deluxe letterpressed jacket and including an extensive booklet collecting John Fahey's paintings for the very first time. Limited edition. On this release, Fahey uses heavy reverb, electric slide and feedback to create an eerie mood. He gets a bit of help from Jeff Allman, who recorded the songs and adds some electronic noise in spots, and from Scott Colburn, who mixed the tracks, but this record is all Fahey.
The Mill Pond
is all over the place stylistically, so it should confuse those who try to pigeonhole Fahey into any one category.
The Mill Pond
further proves that there is only one category into which he fits: truly innovative guitar genius."
"Four ecstatic, lo-fi grabs for the ring of eternity, recorded in Fahey's Oregon hotel room. Containing the first graspable evidence of John's throat-singing abilities, this represents the merging of the bull and the china shop. The crudity of the electronics and the delicacy of the stringwork makes for a wonderful match."

THREE DAY BAND (JOHN FAHEY/AYAL SENIOR)
Title:
Three Day Band
Label:
IMPORTANT RECORDS
Format:
CD
Price:
$13.00
Catalog #:
IMPREC 185CD
"John Fahey and Ayal Senior laid down the tracks for
Three Day Band
in a Woodburn Hotel room at some point in 1999. These tracks show an undocumented improvisational side of Fahey. It's certainly not early period Fahey but not TOTE era, either. At night after the recording sessions commenced, Ayal would record Fahey reading and discussing selected excerpts from his writing. Fifteen tracks of spoken word Fahey are included. From Ayal Senior's liner notes:
'I think I first met John Fahey at a Vince Martin gig in Manhattan at some point in 1998. He was sitting in the back of CBGB's 'other' space, listening to the gig and painting with fat bright markers in a notebook he carried around with him. I kept in touch with Fahey and he picked me up at the airport in Salem with a blind friend whose name I think was Terry. We popped in a tape of my latest jams from the psych shack into his deck and Terry was really digging it. He definitely said it sounded like Hendrix. Fahey said he liked it too and then I think we went to a Denny's for some french fries and shakes. Readers of
Vampire Vultures
will no doubt recall my futile attempts to describe or comprehend the state of Fahey's motel room during this period. It was basically a crime scene. Empty fruitcups, wet paint on the carpet... My journal from that week records that Fahey's motel room was not cleaner than his car. We cruised the Value Village scene looking for records. It was during a trip to one of these thrift stores one morning that we bumped into a younger acquaintance of John's who said he'd want to jam with us back at Fahey's motel room. I think his name was Barry. Nice guy. We went to his place and grabbed some kazoos and other hobo instruments he had and threw them in Fahey's car. Next thing you know, we've got some guitars and amps and headed back to the Woodburn Inn with two pretty, young ladies. We closed the curtains and I pressed record. I had brought a 4 track minidisk recorder with me with the intention of hopefully doing some spoken word recordings of John but had no idea that I would be laying down some molten hot psych with thee Fahey. On tape, John's smoking away on electric guitar, but this ain't Womblife. There's three other people in the room besides us and I don't remember any of their names. I don't remember what they looked like or what the hell they were playing but we were definitely channeling some sort of highway poltergeists. I'm playing guitar as well, tweaking about a bit. For some reason, I kept myself from listening to it or playing it for anyone for a long time. Why? At night, Fahey would lie in bed and I'd record him reading various excerpts from his writings. He reminded me a lot of Kurt Vonnegut in his cynicism and gallows humor. I think they would have gotten along great.'" --Ayal Senior
Artist:
ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE & THE MELTING PARAISO U.F.O.
Title:
Recurring Dream and Apocalypse Of Darkness
Label:
IMPORTANT RECORDS
Format:
CD
Price:
$13.00
Catalog #:
IMPREC 188CD
"
Recurring Dream And Apocalypse Of Darkness
is by far the heaviest Acid Mothers Temple record yet. So heavy, in fact, that Kawabata Makoto jokingly said 'the album is really heavy, maybe a bit like Sunn O))). hahahaha.' Both the CD & LP feature remarkable art work by Seldon Hunt."
INFRACTION
Artist:
PARKS
Title:
Umber
Label:
INFRACTION
Format:
CD
Price:
$13.50
Catalog #:
INFX 031CD
"The story of Russian composer Parks'
Umber
CD has spanned approximately 12 years. Originally conceived in the heyday of the mid-'90s ambient sound' (1996 to be exact),
Umber
suffered from minimal distribution and several label collapses. Sound familiar to another great Russian artist (hint: Beautumn)? Superb ambient with environmental interludes, cinematic minor key passages. Think early Vangelis at his strongest, or a Tarkovsky soundtrack. Reworked and re-arranged in 2007 with a new tracklisting.
Umber
is released in an edition of 300 copies in a digipak."
INTERNATIONAL RECORDS RECORDINGS (GERMANY)

DALY, JOHN
Title:
Solitaire/Back It Up
Label:
INTERNATIONAL RECORDS RECORDINGS (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$11.00
Catalog #:
IRR 001EP
"What makes this producer so unique is the deep, deep disco house, kissed by spheric, warm and psychedelic influences which he seems to find much more in '70s space rock than in Chicago house or Detroit techno, like so many others. And this is what he does on this record in just such a banning way. John Daly lives in Galway, Ireland and founded his own label Feel Music in 2005."
K2 (GERMANY)
Artist:
BORATTO, GUI
Title:
Anunciación
Label:
K2 (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$11.00
Catalog #:
K2 032EP
"Since his debut 'Arqipelago' (K2/4) Gui Boratto has achieved almost everything a techno artist can achieve these days. His album
Chromophobia
, including the omnipresent single 'Beautiful Life' has been a firm favorite amongst DJs from every angle. It's the rare combination of brilliant technical skills, an uncanny ear for catchy hooklines and this razor blade-sharp grooves that make him an exceptional figure in techno world of today. With
Anunciación
, he's back where everything began: on Kompakt's dinky K2. Soundwise, it's a wee bit darker than
Chromophobia
but hey -- that's this winter's fashion. But don't worry, there's still a fair amount of soulfulness involved."
KANZLERAMT (GERMANY)
Artist:
HORREVORTS, PETER
Title:
Evolver Remixes
Label:
KANZLERAMT (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$12.00
Catalog #:
KA 142EP
Remixes by Johannes Heil and Zander VT. "Johannes' massive production was already too much for some sound-systems, which blew out during his live performance with his awesome remix of 'The Rabbit Hole.' Fritz Zander & Sven Von Thülen with their famous residency at the Weekend Club, Berlin have delivered the perfect and absolute timeless 'Neo-Detroit' remix."
KARLOFF (GERMANY)
Artist:
GRUMMICH, PETER
Title:
Garden EP
Label:
KARLOFF (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$12.00
Catalog #:
KARLOFF 026EP
"Deep, deeper, Peter Grummich! This man is on a roll right now, and with every new release you have to ask yourself where this is all going to lead to? However with the
Garden
EP he now already delivers the perfect soundtrack for weeding the beds and waterblasting the terrace -- and for partying hard, of course. 'Beachtrak' prefers its quintessential sub-harmonics to just playing it safe with an up front bass drum, and finally channels its way in a wide arc up to the next level. A hit also for friends of water gardens. On the B-side, Grummich enlarges his melodic skills with a sweet flowery scent of Detroit on the track 'Garden,' and 'It's To Share,' which evolves into a great anthem with just an assumed number of 3 sounds and a couple of snotty claps. We recommend: shoes off and into the record shop!"
KARMAROUGE (GERMANY)
Artist:
ROLAND, ALEXANDER
Title:
Balungan
Label:
KARMAROUGE (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$12.00
Catalog #:
KR 033EP
At 17 years-old,
Alexander Roland
releases his second 12" on Karmarouge. "Balungan" is ethnic, driven, and minimal, with many roots and elements coming from gamelan music. "Nada Irama" feels like a river cruise through a tropical rainforest accompanied by a delicate minimal melody. The clever use of dubby vocals, hypnotizing liquid sounds and the groove conjure up a mystical temper that smoothly trips you out.
Balungan
is a breath of psychedelic spirit that floats to distant worlds.
KENEDIK
Artist:
WEBER, WINDY
Title:
I Hate People
Label:
KENEDIK
Format:
LP
Price:
$18.00
Catalog #:
KEN 1005LP
Limited to 500 copies! "Beautifully colored splatter vinyl featuring a completely different mix & with a shorter length on each song so as to provide the best sound quality. Cover art features a wonderful selection of photos by Christy Romanick and Windy's passport photo from 1987 -- showing a very angry, young, punk rock beginning to this musician's career."
KICKBOXER (GERMANY)
Artist:
MARTINIQ, FRANK
Title:
The Astropopshop
Label:
KICKBOXER (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$11.00
Catalog #:
KICK 020EP
"He is back! Our most favorite Frank Martiniq! The man who made his long, rocky way from the old Warp school to the cultivated 4/4 bass drum. From Cologne via Detroit, to Beijing and back again to good old Cologne, carrying a heavy vinyl bag on his shoulders. But after this round-the-world trip, it was high time for him to start turning the little buttons at his studio in Cologne-Ehrenfeld again in order to present us and the rest of the world with two new, subtle and kicking tracks. Because his music is his fate, his life and his destiny, this man is music! In every single note, in every single beat, in every single heartbeat."
KLANG ELEKTRONIK (GERMANY)
Artist:
LEYERS, DIRK
Title:
Alma
Label:
KLANG ELEKTRONIK (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$10.00
Catalog #:
KLANG 131EP
Dirk Leyers
presents his first record for Klang Elektronik. "Azul" is an impulsive track, with an anxious, meandering bass line and bright synthesizer sounds, while the beat unerringly gallops directly towards dancer's heaven. On the B-side, Dirk calms down a little bit and begrudges us with a conveniently laid-back, almost ambient piece of music called "Azur" before he relieves us with the spheric, whispering "Alma."
KLAP KLAP (GERMANY)
Artist:
SAMUEL L SESSION & MARTIN H
Title:
The Leap
Label:
KLAP KLAP (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$12.00
Catalog #:
KKLAP 006EP
"To make it true and organic was the main purpose when Samuel L Session & Martin H teamed up for
The Leap
. And we must admit that they certainly succeeded in doing so. Both sides represent the path of techno with dub influences, but with the differences that have more twists and turns than most productions from the same scene. It's rich of details and short fills which makes this a truly great record, something that stands out in your box!"
