11:00 A.M. (SPAIN)

Artist: DILO & FRANCO CINELLI
Title: Matamoscas
Label: 11:00 A.M. (SPAIN)
Format: 12"
Price: $11.00
Catalog #: 11AM 002EP
"Argentina strikes again, this time we have Dilo & Franco Cinelli, both known for their releases on labels such as Esperanza, Adjunct, Einmaleins, Milnor Modern, Telegraph, and many more. The tracks getting vinyl format on this EP are 10 min. trippy epic affairs, definitely afterhours bombs. 'Matamoscas' is on side A, providing a super tool which has being played lately by DJs such as Butane, Ben Parris & Bill Patrick. On the side B we find 'Fragil,' where random electro basslines, bleeps and noises are constantly moving like flies that are tripping out. Completing the release, the interpretation of Kasper & Papol remix is pressed, where the Spanish duo have been working a lot lately, with their appearances on Minus, Igloo, and their own labels, Esperanza and 11am. The tune is a hypnotic, quirky techno tool -- a perfect end for the EP."

Artist: FUNZION
Title: Helado En Globos
Label: 11:00 A.M. (SPAIN)
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: 11AM 003EP
"Alejandro Mosso from Argentina introduces us the third release for 11:00 AM. 'Helado en Globos' is the main track for this release, this number has a bassline which is so funky and driving that's going to even make your grandma dance (expect bootlegs of this track with Donna Summer ones). For the remix, we had no other than the Pan-Pot guys who kept the original flavour of the original one adding their special touches to the original recipe turning this track into a deep funky stormer. Finally, we took one of Funzion's best works from the Igloo back catalogue, his remix of Qik's 'Fall'. The only reason we did this because it's not just a filler, it's killer. Enjoy your 'Helado en Globos'!"

4 MEN WITH BEARDS

Artist: CLARK, GENE
Title: Gene Glark (White Light)
Label: 4 MEN WITH BEARDS
Format: LP
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: 4M 116LP
"Further proof that 1971 could very well have been the best year ever for pop music is Gene Clark's self-titled LP (often referred to as White Light). Following his 1966 departure from The Byrds, as well as a release with the Gosdin Brothers and two with Doug Dillard as Dillard & Clark, Gene cut White Light with guitarist/producer Jesse Ed Davis, Burrito Brother Chris Ethridge and pianist Ben Sidran (then of the Steve Miller Band). This album is a country-rock classic featuring eight Clark originals and a stellar cover of the Dylan/Band cut 'Tears Of Rage.'"

Artist: WALKER, SCOTT
Title: Scott
Label: 4 MEN WITH BEARDS
Format: LP
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: 4M 149LP
"One of the most enigmatic figures in pop music history Scott Walker (nee Scott Engel) first saw massive success in England with his band The Walker Brothers in 1965. Not really brothers, nor were they British, the trio left Hollywood seeking fame in England, and they found it there for a time with their particular brand of orchestrated pop. Following the group's demise in 1967, Walker set out to pursue solo stardom in perhaps the most peculiar way possible, with over-the-top baroque pop songs owing more to his idol Jacques Brel, Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra than they did to The Beatles or The Stones. This is his first solo LP from 1967 and features 3 of his own compositions along with covers of songs by Brel, Tim Hardin, and the Brill Building team of Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann. A true original."

Artist: WALKER, SCOTT
Title: Scott 2
Label: 4 MEN WITH BEARDS
Format: LP
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: 4M 150LP
"Originally released in 1968, Scott 2 made it all the way to number one on the UK pop charts, perhaps the strangest number one hit in pop history. Continuing with his orchestral obsession, Scott 2 features over-the-top string and horn arrangements, occasionally veering into dangerously schmaltzy territory. This production style is in drastic contrast to the lyrical content, songs of despair, prostitution, homosexuality, and brutal honesty, indicting the same glamorous and glitzy lifestyle that his baroque pop style emblemizes. Along with many originals, Scott 2 features songs by Jacques Brel, Tim Hardin, and Bacharach/David."

8BIT (GERMANY)

Artist: DE LORENZI, MANUEL
Title: Coconut EP
Label: 8BIT (GERMANY)
Format: 12"
Price: $12.00
Catalog #: 8BIT 008EP
"Alora... from Sebo K, Sleeper Thief, Audiofly, Anthony Colllins, Sian, Marcin Czubala to Manuel de Lorenzi. Best feedback for the new 8Bit record from the smart Italian guy. Manuel De Lorenzi is definitely one rising star to watch out for in 2008. Carving his own fresh style and insight into his productions, he delivers a fine EP for 8bit. 'Coconuts' is a slow burner, with punchy chord stabs and deep haunting pads that take you nicely on a journey. On the flipside 'Something' is a more subtle, deep 'n' dark groover. Nick Curly is brought in on remix duties keeping it close to the original yet delivering a more housed up percussive affair. A great EP and great start to 2008!"

AFTERMUSIC

Artist: BOY DIRT CAR
Title: Spoken Answer To A Silent Question
Label: AFTERMUSIC
Format: CD
Price: $14.00
Catalog #: AFTER 001CD
"In one of the most unlikely reunions of recent years, seminal Milwaukee noise group Boy Dirt Car announces the release of its first new recordings since 1988. Spoken Answer To A Silent Question brings together several original members -- co-founder Darren Brown, Keith Brammer and Dan Kubinski (Die Kreuzen), T.S. Wahlen and Dave Szolwinski -- and, consistent with Boy Dirt Car's classic revolving-door lineup, brings in several newcomers, including longtime Milwaukee mainstays Peder Hedman, Karl Paloucek and Jeff Hamilton. For much of the 1980s, Milwaukee was home to Boy Dirt Car's brooding sound. Influenced as much by Wisconsin's brutal winters and the dark tales of its North Woods as by any of their avant garde contemporaries, the group forged a sound different from other so-called 'industrial' bands of the day. As one reviewer once put it, 'Boy Dirt Car creates a sound not like being in a car crash, but of being under one.' Just as it cadged its industrial instrumentation from scrapyards and roadsides, BDC culled its members from across Milwaukee's vibrant music scene of the time, building up an intense following and a reputation as one of the city's most potentially hazardous acts. At the same time, the group recorded numerous (now-legendary) cassettes and LPs which, while escaping the ears of Rolling Stone, garnered them coverage in The Wall Street Journal, and -- even more unlikely -- from late advice columnist Ann Landers."

AGF PRODUCKTION (GERMANY)

Artist: AGF
Title: Words Are Missing
Label: AGF PRODUCKTION (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: AGF 008CD
Berlin-based AGF (aka Antye Greie) is a vocalist, software musician, producer, label-owner and e-poet. With her fourth solo album, Words Are Missing, she leaves words behind, instead using voice, beats and drones to create a huge palette of unique sounds to work around the phenomenon of silence, speechlessness, deconstructed language and impeded communication. The subjects in which the wordlessness is expressed are carefully chosen and vary from dark-memory experiences like visiting the concentration camp in Buchenwald (when the artist was 16) to beat-driven humorous content, like the track called "Kreuzwortraetsel ("crossword"). The listener witnesses a recorded alphabet turning into a trilogy of compositions called "Letters Make No Meaning (Weapons No War Germs No Disease) I," "Cognitive Modules Party II" and "Ooops For Understanding III," and the differences between recorded silences in tracks 8A. "Present" and 8B. "Absent." The album's artwork delivers a deeper insight into the meaning of the compositions which features a total of 16 works of calligraphy, drawings and photography by AGF designed into an elaborate book format by the renowned designer, Alorenz. The CD comes in an upright digipack with a 20-page booklet that distracts the origin of words into a conceptual letter play derived from abstract calligraphy. Exploring a personal form of poetry into electronic music, pop songs, calligraphy and the world wide web, AGF's entrancing live performances and sound installations have taken place all over the world in museums, auditoriums, theaters, concert halls and clubs.

ALLUVIAL RECORDINGS

Artist: BRADLEY, PAUL
Title: Más Memorias Extranjeras
Label: ALLUVIAL RECORDINGS
Format: CD
Price: $11.00
Catalog #: ALL 030CD
"A new section of the great work based on field recordings from Spain. Limited edition. From Paul: 'On returning to Memorias Extranjeras (and to the Spanish city of Valencia), the foggy, dark somberness that punctuated the first CD had gone. A fundamental change had occurred in the 12 months between Memorias Extranjeras and Más Memorias Extranjeras and there was a desire to reflect this and re-work the piece to match this clearer change in perspective. The two releases are two sides of the same coin, one darker, more detached and the other, calmer and more open. Memories that had changed and warped, softened and melded together, the same experience revisited through different eyes." Same cover art as ALL 023CD.
