Title: ...E Fu Il Sesto Giorno
Label: VINYL MAGIC (ITALY)
Format: LP
Price: $33.00
Catalog #: VM 003LP
"Well known Italian prog band Metamorfosi were based in Rome, and they released their debut via the Vedette label in 1972, just one year prior to their highly acclaimed masterpiece, Inferno. ...E Fu Il Sesto Giorno has most of the elements of Inferno already there, with the peculiar voice of Jimmy Spitaleri, the strong rhythm section and the classical influenced keys, but you can also note some slight late '60s influences here. Very rare in original format, this is the first vinyl reissue ever and comes with great remastered sound, replica of the original gatefold cover and label, and limited to 500 copies."

You can feel the '60s still alive in their overall sound. This is one of the tops in this genre and should be owned by every card-carrying member of 'private collectors club.' Songs 'Water To Wine," "Race To The Sun" and the title track, plus many more rule! Lyrics on back of LP. Exact cover has been reproduced."

WOODSIST

Artist: FOLK SPECTRE, THE
Title: The Blackest Medicine
Label: WOODSIST
Format: LP
Price: $14.00
Catalog #: WOODSIST 009LP
"Black vinyl with silk screened covers. Limited to 500. Solo tunes by Pete Nolan of the Magik Markers, GHQ, Vanishing Voice, Virgin Eye Blood Brothers, etc. This is music from the American underground. The feeling is dark and fucked up and somehow sublime. A solid statement of loner home-made goodness. A pop statement from behind a veil of dirt."

WORLD IN SOUND (GERMANY)

Artist: OBSKURIA
Title: Discovery of Obskuria
Label: WORLD IN SOUND (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $21.00
Catalog #: WIS 2003CD
"Space has no limit! Obskuria is hungry for the ultimate satisfaction and will hit you like an asteroid storm straight into the face. The international project started in 2006 with Tom Brehm, the legendary guitar player from the '60s U.S. group Dragonwyck, super-talented German keyboadist Winnie Rimbach-Sator (Karmic Society/Treacle People) and La Ira De Dios from Peru. What you hear on this album is the essence of euphoria, freedom and creativity! Through the total running time of almost 80 mins, a wide spectrum of influences are covered from Pink Floyd's Meddle, Ummagumma, Amon Düül 2, Ashra Temple, Hawkwind and Brainticket as well as transforming '80s (thrash)-metal into a natural '70s rock sound. This soundtrack concept album (for an upcoming movie) is best described as a voodoo space-rock experience which tells the 'true' story of what will happen to the world on December 21st, 2012. Besides 6 original cuts, the album contains 4 cover tunes, such as 'Die, Die My Darling' with male and female Airplane-style vocals, a gigantic monumental 8 min. version of Metallica's 'For Whom The Bell Tolls' basically in Black Sabbath sound featuring an ultra-heavy and frightening Hammond organ over burning '60s fuzz guitars -- a total blast! They perform with intensity and flow that only the end-'60s San Francisco bands and the mid '80s speed/thrash/punk revolution generated. The epic 19-minute track 'Essence Of Its Own' builds up from a moody space feeling to an unexpected groundbreaking explosion of sound. The CD release includes one bonus track (not played by Obskuria): 'The World Is Gone' is an original/authentic flashback by Peter Thomas, Germany's mastermind for movie sounds from 40 years ago, but it shares Obskuria's vision and closes our soundtrack for The Discovery of the Planet Obskuria. On low volume it may feel like an easy listening album, turning it up it will blow minds! Very few modern rock albums have the potential to bring new listening dimensions to the true music addicts & maniacs -- this one will do for sure -- it's pure euphor-rock-n-roll!"

Artist: ILLIAD, THE
Title: A Sad Day On Pluto
Label: WORLD IN SOUND (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $19.00
Catalog #: WIS 3001CD
"The Illiad is a young quintet from Ohio. A creatively produced demo put World In Sound's attention to the band leader Kyle Pittman, an introverted and deeply emotional singer and guitarist. A Sad Day On Pluto was recorded in Cleveland, Ohio in 2007 and contains 13 original tunes reflecting a tasty spectrum between early Pink Floyd jamming, '60s garage/flower-power and loner folk style, and features very catchy lyrics combined with interesting 'psychedelicate' melodies. Pittman's music captures a unique style of composing fresh music with the influences of Syd Barrett's Pink Floyd, West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band, The Velvet Underground, Marc Bolan and David Bowie. The mixing, mostly done by Pittman himself is truly a 'trip in time' -- a 'stereo-experimental' '60s style like Pink Floyd's Piper at the Gates of Dawn! The song 'Are You A Librarian' can be heard on Trip In Time Vol.2 (Psychedelic Rock Reflections). With expressive vocals, screeching guitar hooks and sunny Farfisa sounds in these electric tunes and classic ballads, The Illiad create the beginning of a fantastic voyage into a concrete vision of dreamy songs. The CD comes with a 16 pg. booklet and is well produced (intense sound!). This album is highly individual and part of the new generation of '60s-influenced bands. It's a kind of masterpiece for today with the sound and ideas from back then."

Artist: TO GET HER TOGETHER
Title: John See's Lilly
Label: WORLD IN SOUND (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $19.00
Catalog #: WIS 3002CD
"Behind this extraordinary retrospective release stands two musicians from Portland, OR: Jeff Sanger and Alexa Marmon. John See's Lilly, their debut, is certainly a psychedelic gem and introduces the world to the mystic and creative To Get Her Together which carries the influence of Syd Barrett, Donovan's psychedelic period featuring a great cover version of his 'Clarence In Wonderland' and Joe Meek all rolled into one. They create a sound that sums up a scene from Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Jeff is an emotive songwriter and singer taking you through a journey into his mind full of musical twists and turns with acoustic guitar rhythms over hypnotic drum and bass to tunes with electric overdrive mindblowing fuzz. Equipment used such as a 1930s David Bogen amplifier, vintage organs and effects, and analog equipment ultimately reward the listening experience. The song 'Jovial Tree' can be heard on Trip In Time Vol.2 (Psychedelic Rock Reflections) and is celebrated highly. Here is the full album with 16 songs. This album truly creates a unique dreamy psych-vintage experience in 2007!"

Artist: EL CUY
Title: El Cuy
Label: WORLD IN SOUND (GERMANY)
Format: CD
Price: $19.00
Catalog #: WIS 3003CD
"El Cuy is a 'kick ass' power trio from Lima, Peru which seems to be one of the most intense rock 'n' roll cities for heavy underground rock today (they're friends with La Ira De Dios, who brought the massive Peru sound live to Europe in 2006). The 10 songs on this album impressively reflect the dirty old school Sabbath/Zeppelin sound, very natural and organic high octane rock. Look forward to intense cuts like 'Animal' which can be heard on Trip In Time Vol. 2 (Psychedelic Rock Reflections), 'Iraqi, Juntos y Separados' and 'El Vertigo' will surely find you cranking the volume up. All three musicians showcase a totally intense and unique sound -- Black Sabbath meets Cream! Marcos Coifman (also in Reino Emirtano) plays a hard driving bass sound on a classic Rickenbacker like Lemmy in Motörhead and the guitars create a euphoric wall of sound with outstanding heavy psych licks and moody but also punk riffs. The energy of these dudes is absolutely overflowing! A very nice 12 pg. color booklet rounds off this challenging artistic statement in being one of the heaviest modern rock 'n' roll trios you can find!"

WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)

Artist: GROWING CONCERN, THE
Title: The Growing Concern
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $14.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8481
"Although virtually nothing is known of Growing Concern, their only album (Mainstream, 1969) is an enjoyable piece of West Coast psychedelic pop. The opening track 'Hard, Hard Year' sets the tone for the album: it opens with melodic guitar work, which is joined first by bass, then by excellent keyboards; it also features beautiful female vocal harmonies from group members Bonnie MacDonald and Mary Garstki. 'Edge Of Time' features excellent lead guitar work, as does 'Tomorrow Has Been Cancelled'; 'A Boy I Once Knew Well' is a folky lament, which again features fine vocal harmonies, keyboards, and guitar work. Overall, quite a good blend of folk rock, pop, and psychedelia. The album is brilliantly recorded, and is of a consistently high musical quality. The band surely deserved a better fate than the obscurity to which they were consigned by the bizarre business practices of the Mainstream label."

Artist: APHRODITE'S CHILD
Title: It's Five O'Clock
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8505
"Second of three albums from Vangelis Papathanassiou, Demis Roussos and Lucas Sideras (Aphrodite's Child), who fled from the Greek military junta to the relative safety of Paris and the 1968 student uprisings; the surprise success of the band's first album End of the World called for the release of another record, so the band began to prepare a return to the studio. What did not seem possible a year before now finally was, and the three Greeks traveled to London to record It's Five O'Clock in Trident Studios. The first single, 'Let Me Love, Let Me Live,' released in October 1969, made it to a number one position in the French charts, but it was the B-side 'Marie Jolie' that was most popular in the rest of Europe. The title track 'It's Five O'Clock' quickly followed the same path; released in December 1969, it did well in the charts of many European countries. Dream-like, baroque, carefully crafted pop/psych with English lyrics, in some ways very much in the style of English bands of the era, but with that little twist that makes it very special; three bonus tracks including rare singles; lyrics and photos too in the 16-page booklet."

Artist: KOSUGI, TAKEHISA
Title: Catch-Wave
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8506
Gray-area reissue, previously out on CD via the Showboat label. "Takehisa Kosugi is without doubt one of the most important and influential figures of the Japanese avant-garde still performing. Over the years he has worked with everyone from John Cage to Sonic Youth as well as being an active member of the Fluxus group and starting his own performance units Group Ongaku and the Taj Mahal Travellers. His album Catch-Wave, originally released in 1975, features on side A 'an excerpt from a meta-media solo improvisation' utilizing heavily-processed violin, voice, radio and oscillators (the latter modified via wind and light) to create a massive drone. Side B is 'a triple performance by a solo vocalist' where a vocal phrase is taken and electronically modified until it loses any meaning other than as part of the wave form.' Booklet contains biography, and discography for this important avant-garde performer."

Artist: MANSET, GERARD
Title: La Mort D'Orion
Label: WORLD PSYCHEDELIA (WORLD'S LEADING TERRORIST STATE)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: WPC6 8507
"Manset, a self proclaimed 'lifelong rebel and eternal failure,' released his debut album in May of '68, just as the students were manning the ramparts. But it wasn't until La Mort D'Orion was released in 1970 that he really entered the public consciousness. The record is a thrillingly ambitious concept album of orchestral psych for which the self-taught Manset wrote all the music, lyrics, and arrangements. The title track runs nearly 25 minutes long, with an epic sweep that seems to encompass and distill all the finest French modernism has to offer, from Mallarmé and Nerval in its literary pretensions to the sonic advancements in studio sound pioneered by the likes of Pierre Schaffer and Pierre Henry. Moments of seemingly normal French chanson give way to subtle and psychologically disorienting manipulations of orchestral trappings -- the results are very dark, very beautiful, and quite unlike anything you'd expect from French popular music. Creepy in some parts, at others 'serious' psychedelic/avant prog, with abundant dark orchestrated atmospheres. A masterpiece! A hefty booklet (20 pages) contains biographical information and lyrics."
