IMPORTANT RECORDS
Artist:
A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS
Title:
A Place to Bury Strangers
Label:
IMPORTANT RECORDS
Format:
LP
Price:
$14.00
Catalog #:
IMPREC 170LP
Repressed! "Vinyl version of the group's break-out self-titled release. Pitchfork 8.4, 'Best New Music.' A Place To Bury Strangers have often been called 'the loudest band in New York.' This may very well be the case, but unlike much so-called 'loud' rock and roll that's out there, APTBS is not loud simply for the sake of it. The sonically overdriven sound they've accomplished is no clumsy accident, but a carefully-cultivated and well-maintained entity all its own, fostered by an unbridled passion that's clearly evident in every live show they play and each recording they make. A Place To Bury Strangers does not so much play songs as allow them to pour out. They are songs about longing, heartbreak and confusion played extremely well and at a passionately loud volume. While there are obvious reference points:
Pornography
-era Cure, early Ride, My Bloody Valentine, and pre-1990s Jesus and Mary Chain, the sound is all their own."
INSTITUBES (FRANCE)
Artist:
BOBMO
Title:
To The Bobmobile Remix
Label:
INSTITUBES (FRANCE)
Format:
10"
Price:
$12.00
Catalog #:
INS 10002EP
"We put out
Let's Go Bobmo!
a couple of months ago, Bobmo's début 12". Went over really well. The kid is touring, playing everywhere, getting thrown out of Berlin clubs for lewd behavior, remixing Jape and Scenario Rock -- good times. One track of the single stood out and got lots of plays: 'To the Bobmobile.' And lo and behold we received a great remix from our friends Kazey & Bulldog. This is what we had to say on the original Bobmobile: 'The track will appeal to the kidult lurking behind your polished techno connoisseur facade. Drums pumping and shuffling, a cute two-note organ riff, filters opening and closing spasmodically, vocal stabs heckling and cackling, climaxing at some point into a little percussive solo, like a sugar-addled kid breaking into a tap dance routine in the middle of his bar mitzvah.' The new remix brings to the fore the Baltimore components of the original. Parisians Kazey & Bulldog took Bobmo's version of Baltimore club and brought it closer to fancy footwork-worthy reality."
INTRANSITIVE
Artist:
NERVE NET NOISE
Title:
Dark Garden
Label:
INTRANSITIVE
Format:
CD
Price:
$12.00
Catalog #:
INT 029CD
"
Dark Garden
, the new album of thrillingly idiosyncratic analog buzz by Nerve Net Noise (aka homemade synth duo of Hiroshi Kumakiri and Tagomago) , is the perfect entry point for listeners new to their singular sonic world. This album of short, song-like synthesizer pieces might take its cues from manga, science fiction, early electronic music, and minimal techno, but as always, the Tokyo band resides firmly in their own inexplicable universe.
Dark Garden
assimilates fractured beats, stuttering pulses, naked static, and impatient drones into an album that's somehow both playfully alive and coldly menacing. In his liner notes, synth builder Kumakiri describes spirits that lurk in the shadows and watch people go about their lives, existing in a parallel world that bring to mind fairy tales and myth. Nerve Net Noise's music is similarly just out of reach, present in the natural world but not quite a part of it. For fans of Klaus Schultze, Jessica Rylan, Henri Pousseur, or Pan Sonic."
Artist:
STELZER, HOWARD
Title:
Bond Inlets
Label:
INTRANSITIVE
Format:
CD
Price:
$12.00
Catalog #:
INT 030CD
"Ten years after his debut CD,
Stone Blind
(Intransitive, 1997), Howard Stelzer presents
Bond Inlets
, his first widely available solo cassette-tape composition. Boston-based sound artist Stelzer was never happy with his first album, and threw away most of the pressing as soon as it returned from the factory. He took the occasion of his label's tenth anniversary to dissect the source sounds of that work and filter it through the lens of the interceding decade in order to build a piece that more accurately reflects what his intentions were then and what his aesthetic is today.
Bond Inlets
is subtly emotional work of foreground drone that beats its head against the plastic walls of cassette-tape technology, laying bare the physicality of the process of its creation. The dying motors of cassette players, tape-saturated percussion, and blown-out condenser mic wail are mixed with elements of new live improvisations and field recordings taken in his neighborhood to create oceans full of no-fidelity murk and evocative hiss. There is an implacable melancholy to
Bond Inlets
, with fragments of distant melodies that surface only to be subsumed again into the grime."
Artist:
MARCHETTI & SEIJIRO MURAYAMA, LIONEL
Title:
Hatali Atsalei (L'Echange des Yeux)
Label:
INTRANSITIVE
Format:
CD
Price:
$12.00
Catalog #:
INT 031CD
"For his second album on Intransitive, Lionel Marchetti returns to his favorite subject: music as an essential element of ritual and ecstatic trance states. Unlike his
Knud un Nom du Serpent
CD, which offered a critique of avant-garde and popular music as an extension of the transcendental impulse,
Hatali Atsalei
is more literally an experience of ritual. Using percussion, wind instruments, field recordings of natural sounds, and most importantly the voice of collaborator Seijiro Murayama, Marchetti once again gives us a multi-leveled engagement with the elemental urge to converse with nature and to use sound as a means to achieve altered states of consciousness. Referencing narrative radio art, musique concrete and acoustic ecology,
Hatali Atsalei
is a fascinating work that reveals more layers with each listen."
ISOPHLUX RECORDS
Artist:
ANTHILIAWATERS
Title:
The Miles Without You
Label:
ISOPHLUX RECORDS
Format:
CD

$12.00

"First new activities by cult label Isophlux since 2001. Brings to mind such artists as Other People Place, Gosub, Ultramarine, Drexciya. Anthiliawaters is a collective based on one simple need, a soundtrack for starting your day. It's the music score for that first cup of espresso, that hangover, or when you are sitting there half awake eating toast trying to motivate yourself to go get dressed for work. For those sexy moments that music these days just can't give you. Whatever the case, maybe we are here for you. So relax and breathe deep as we get you going. From the deep soulful intro track 'The Glades' with its deep dub bass lines and sexy vocals welding themselves to a heavy electro-house grooves, to the dark 808 sounds of 'Midnight,' we will take you with us on our soundtrack to life. Our one objective is to make moments, not music for moments. So what is Anthiliawaters? It's sexy breakfast electro resistant to time coming from here and there."
ITALIC (GERMANY)
Artist:
ANTONELLI
Title:
Soulkiller
Label:
ITALIC (GERMANY)
Format:
CD
Price:
$19.00
Catalog #:
ITALIC 071CD
"Italic would like to announce Antonelli's new album
Soulkiller
. It is Stefan Schwander (aka Antonelli)'s 6th album and was produced using analog drum machines, synthesizers and sequencers only and recorded live without any overdubs onto an old-school tape recorder. The result is amazing: Antonelli's house music on
Soulkiller
is so incredibly rough and emotional that it reminds of the garage rock from the Stooges. And the tracks sound like ESG doing cover versions of 'Moodymann.' Moreover, you will find flamboyant pop references, from Bohannon to Terry Hall."

"Favorite psych and prog-spiritual pioneers Black Mountain are back with
In The Future

The new album possesses immense breadth, seamlessly showcasing short and classic folk-pop gems along with driving modern rock masterpieces, peaking with 'Bright Lights,' a 17-minute multi-dimensional opus that gives Pink Floyd's 'Echoes' a run for its money. KANYO RECORDS
Artist:
BANA KADORI
Title:
Agwambo
Label:
KANYO RECORDS
Format:
CD
Price:
$15.00
Catalog #:
KNO 002CD
"Lush vocal harmonies over smooth, danceable beats have made the sweet benga sounds of Bana Kadori a mainstay on the Kenyan music scene for almost 30 years. Formed in 1979 as a backing band for the legendary Ochieng Kabasseleh, the 'Band of the Children of Dori' has spent decades fine tuning their own intoxicating blend of Luo benga and Congolese rumba -- a sound that exhilarated audiences on the group's first U.S. tour in August and September of 2007. It was toward the end of this summer sojourn that Bana Kadori hooked up with Kanyo's own Nyathi Otenga Flying Studios in a basement in Bethlehem, PA to document their latest collection of sonic confections. The result is
Agwambo
, a 74-minute powerhouse built from the rolling rhythms and memorable melodies that have won Bana Kadori the hearts of music fans from Nairobi to New York. This is the second Kanyo Records release, the label run by Alex Minoff and Ian Eagleson of Extra Golden and Weird War."
KIVA
Artist:
FERGUSON HULITT
Title:
Mushroom Palace
Label:
KIVA
Format:
CD
Price:
$11.00
Catalog #:
KIVA 002CD
"For those of you who know me I have been in and around music for years, writing songs and putting them away for the right time. Well... the time is right now. Here is a collection of songs, written by me, arranged by Dreu Ferguson Sr. On this CD we venture into the realm of psychedelia on 'The Essence,' 'Painting,' 'Mushroom Palace,' and 'Maelstrom' all with great guitar playing and backing instruments as necessary. There are a few folk-blues gems like 'Without A Face,' the great shuffling blues of 'History Following Me,' and a few more straight-up folkies like 'Easy Prey To Time' (with wah-wah guitar) and more. Some of these are from many years ago, some new. We tried to keep a 'private press' feel on this and I think we did. 'Bad Weather Mama' is a little blues shuffle that women will hate but guys will dig. Enough said. Welcome to Kiva." -- Brian Hulitt.
