CATENACCIO RECORDS (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$11.50
Catalog #:
CCCO 007EP
"The new Catenaccio comes from Fym Et Diane and the
Mind Creates Matter
EP is a really aerial, funky, minimal slider. It's so crunchy and dry that Daniel Bell should be jealous! The elegant and sovereign reduced groove fulfills its mission in abstract groove. One two three four! Crunch!"
CELESTIAL HARMONIES
Artist:
PARSONS, DAVID
Title:
Surya
Label:
CELESTIAL HARMONIES
Format:
CD
Price:
$14.00
Catalog #:
CH 13227CD
"I wanted to create a more 'off-worldly' environment on this project.
Surya
is my tribute to the sun, and so this album leans a little more toward 'space-music' than a lot of my previous projects. The sounds and atmospheres are mainly generated by oscillators, rather than processed sound samples, to give a more electronic sound -- like the original analog systems that I first began composing with.
Surya
is the Hindu sun god. I always find track titles difficult as they tend to set in concrete a certain way of relating to the music. I would much prefer the listener to relate to the music in their own way. So the titles simply suggest what occurred to me during the composition and production process. The title track 'Surya' was inspired by the fluid light images of Lynn Augstein on her DVD
Borealis
. Composed on Kurzweil, Novation, Emu and Roland synthesizers, the tracks are, apart from a Varanasi (India) atmosphere on 'Alien Dreaming,' entirely electronic and all patches are programmed by me."
--David Parsons. "From his homeland in New Zealand, David Parsons travels frequently to Asia for spiritual and musical inspiration. After collecting musical samples and studying different musical and cultural traditions, Parsons returns to his studio to integrate these influences with his own experiences. In the process, he bridges disparate elements with seamless grace, and creates a unique musical affirmation of our common humanity and cultural endowment. Parsons' recordings make the Eastern sensibility comprehensible to the Western listener and formulate a unique and captivating new expression. To Parsons' credit as a musician, composer and performer, he has evolved into a rare and highly-acclaimed producer of cultural music traditions. His work is often featured in film, television and radio scores, and continues to be widely praised by reviewers."
CHERRY RED (UK)

BATES, MARTYN
Title:
Letters Written/The Return of the Quiet
Label:
CHERRY RED (UK)
Format:
CD
Price:
$17.00
Catalog #:
CDMRED 134CD
"As part of Cherry Red's 30th anniversary commemorations, we shall be revisiting many key artist's releases and they will be remastered, re-pressed and re-promoted. Following on from our successful Eyeless In Gaza re-promotion, we are now delighted to re-press two solo Martyn Bates albums that were originally released in 1982 and 1987, respectively (CD issue was originally from 1996). If you are not familiar with these albums, then you are in for a positive treat! Martyn is an artist who has expressed his evolving vision over a period of more than 25 years. He has no time for any concept of musical purity and instead seems to bend and adapt it to become part of his wider notion of folk arts. His is a true evolution of traditional creative arts, providing signposts for our reintegration with the landscape and nature. Martyn spends his time creating music that is music which brings together our past with the present, expressing his hope for change through the bringing together of art, nature and humanity."

Artist:
MONOCHROME SET, THE
Title:
The Independent Singles Collection
Label:
CHERRY RED (UK)
Format:
CD
Price:
$17.00
Catalog #:
CDMRED 350CD
"Suave; debonair; sophisticated. Haughty, perhaps, for those who favor the pejorative. Aristocratic in more than one sense, classy in at least as many. The Monochrome Set were effortlessly inventive, literate, poised and immaculate of tuneage, possessed of an internal dialogue as a band that allowed them to surf their own narrative. They were just unlike anything else, in layman's terms. Instead, their sound harked back to a golden era of British pop songwriters. But there was nothing retrogressive about their endeavors. Instead, they wrote songs that recreated the drama and promise of a Pearl & Dean interval theme, veering from lullaby to mambo to harmonic pop, accompanied by lush melodies and irresistibly playful lyrics that embraced morbidity at one extreme, and pitch-perfect satire at another. Because they could. This is The Monochrome Set's complete independent singles collection including B-sides and rare tracks."

"A new artist for the NET28 roster, Nate Fisher is an incredible discovery, a young and talented artist coming from Alaska, who has already released some wonderful tracks for Max.Ernst, Thomas Brinkmann's label. We are now honored to feature two of his bombs in a new release for CMYKmusik, this unpredictable
Tinto Absoluto
. 'Mayhem' is the work of a sonic terrorist: 7 minutes of pure rhythm, a dancefloor burner with a huge load of personality, originality and attitude. On the other side, 'Tanzania': a hybrid between house, techno and rave that will blow your mind. A MUST for the dancefloor! Music that knows no limits, euphoric & chameleonic."
Artist:
SPEDICATI & CAPRIATI
Title:
Giallo Canarino
Label:
CMYKMUSIK (SPAIN)
Format:
12"
Price:
$12.00
Catalog #:
CMYK 019EP
"Matteo Spedicati & Joseph Capriati are among the new breed of Italian techno producers -- the funkiest shit from this part of the world. Both work together for the first time, with a debut for CMYKmusik that is a breath of fresh air, all dirty and groovy. 'Giallo Canarino' starts where it ends, on the dancefloor, delivering techno that will hammer all your senses with the joy of the unexpected. Changes, mutations, explosions... the 3 tracks are all about rhythm and bass, kicking asses all along the way. If you don't move it with these guys you'd better ask for help. This is the freshest, funkiest and wildest techno of the year, no doubts."

Artist:
FRANKLIN
Title:
Life Circle
Label:
COCODRILO (SPAIN)
Format:
2LP
Price:
$44.00
Catalog #:
JLA 401LP
"Franklin were one of the first underground bands from Spain, formed in the late '60s by some of the best musicians based in Madrid at the time. Fuelled by the killer guitars of Pablo Weeber and Antonio GŠ De Diego, they only recorded two sought after & excellent hard-psych 45s (the first one, containing their psyched to the max cover of the Stones 'Satisfaction' was recently included on the Andergraun Vibrations comp). In 1974, the band recorded a whole album which was never released until now. Their new line-up for those sessions featured two drummers and a new keyboard player.
Life Circle
is a conceptual album which sounds more prog-rock than their previous 45s, in fact we must say this is a must for anyone into Spanish progressive sounds. Nine tracks full of hard guitar, mini-Moog, Mellotron, analog keyboards, some spacey and experimental-symphonic passages, English vocals. Titles like 'Renaissance,' 'Intro for Cosmic Body,' 'Takeoff.' Double vinyl set, 500 copies limited, featuring the whole Franklin output: their two 45s, the unreleased
Life Circle
album remastered from the master tapes and a couple of rare live tracks. Includes insert with liner notes and photos.'
COCOON (GERMANY)
Artist:
PIG&DAN
Title:
Deliverance
Label:
COCOON (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$11.00
Catalog #:
COR 043EP
Igor Tchkotoua
and
Dan Duncan
are two Mallorquinos and one of the most exciting techno duos of our time and
Deliverance
delivers absolute proof of this. With a warmly distorted, pressing bass line and a smoky voice, the title track is a DJ tool that fits the minimal raver like a custom-made suit. "Sly Detector" is atmospheric techno with a rolling hookline and a splash of acid that is already a dancefloor hit.
Artist:
MINILOGUE
Title:
Jamaica
Label:
COCOON (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$11.00
Catalog #:
COR 044EP
The two Swedes
Sebastian Mullaert
and
Marcus Henriksson
are already a well-known name in the psy-trance scene as
Son Kite
. As
Minilogue
, they now conquer the minimal and house world. With their rather unique sound, they manage the tightrope walk between minimal and trance and never allow us to put them into a drawer.
Jamaica
features two calm tunes where organic matter and groovy sounds are worked into a detailed minimal labyrinth. Say YES to techno made in Sweden.
Artist:
KIERAN, PHIL
Title:
Missp
Label:
COCOON (GERMANY)
Format:
12"
Price:
$11.00
Catalog #:
COR 045EP
Ireland's
Phil Kieran
is back again with
Missp
on Cocoon Recordings, continuing consistently where he stopped with his contribution to the
Cocoon Compilation G
collection: groovy, dark, technoid -- a sound that reminds of some fog & strobo parties in the mid-'90s. A perfect prime-time track. On the B-side,
Pig & Dan
interpret the track and give it a new look that is trance-y and playful, but with a good twist of acid and as good as the original.
COLD BLUE MUSIC
Artist:
PETERS, STEVE
Title:
The Webster Cycles
Label:
COLD BLUE MUSIC
Format:
CD
Price:
$8.00
Catalog #:
CB 027CD
"
The Webster Cycles
, a somewhat open-ended piece for any combination of wind instruments and/or voices, allows for a good bit of decision-making and improvisation on the part of the performer(s). In the present recorded version, six trombone parts were performed (via overdubbing) by noted composer/performer J.A. Deane. The result is a beautifully coherent yet ever-changing music that slowly shifts its texture and harmonic focus as if its individual parts were refractions of a giant aural prism. The wonderful, subtle inflections and tonal shadings that Deane brings to each phrase imbue the piece with a vibrant, palpable sense of energy and motion. The piece's score is constructed from a selection of words drawn from a Webster's dictionary. The words become pitch sequences or melodic phrases that are to be played within the duration of a long breath. These sequences are grouped into seven sections, which the performer(s) may perform in any order they wish while maintaining the internal order of phrases within each section." 30-minute CD EP.
