The Cocoon label presents the second volume in its Silk Pearls series of compilations. It is a well-known fact that the Cocoon Club is one of the most exciting venues in Germany; its affiliated restaurants are also some of the most spectacular places to indulge your palate. After only three years, chef Mario Lohninger has, together with his team, succeeded in making the Silk Bed Restaurant one of the hottest restaurants in the Republic. The Austrian-born chef brings together the best cuisines of the world to the highest stage and was awarded a Michelin star in 2007. "Oliver Huntemann has been doing his thing for quite a while, under various guises, as DJ and producer. Since 1995 he has been running the Confused Rec. label (plus sub-labels). PLAY! 01 [live] - Sao Paolo/Brazil in 2007 was the predecessor of his current mix album PLAY! 02 [live] - Rex Club/Paris. "Sloppy Ground is Eric Chenaux's strongest, most accessible and most dynamic work in years. We have long been champions of the man's inimitable talents -- as a songwriter, arranger and mind-bending guitarist -- and this new album should make these talents clear to the nominally attentive listener. This is a collection of beautifully fried love songs, highly original in compositional approach and instrumental texture, utterly compelling in lyrical content and delivery. As Chenaux says, 'the lyrics are more concerned with what love does rather than what it means... the time moving through these tunes is not one of the beginning of love or the end or heartbreak of love (though I love that stuff too) but more often in the middle (the working middle, the in between).' Chenaux has rallied some of Toronto's finest 'out' players for Sloppy Ground, including Nick Fraser on drums, Ryan Driver on amplified melodica and synths, David Prentice on violin, Doug Tielli on 5-string banjo, Martin Arnold on electric tenor banjo, and Aimee Dawn Robinson on electric echo harp. Chenaux's own guitar work has never been more thrillingly deployed in the context of (relatively) conventional songcraft."

"Over 30 years ago, after 3 years of work and rehearsals, a group of seven unknown Belgian musicians gathered in a small basement studio to record their first album, which they released themselves in a tiny edition of 500 copies. The album was untitled, but the catalog number was '1313,' which the album later became known by. The power and originality of their creation turned heads and all these years later, this album is rightly considered the beginning of the 'chamber-rock' movement as well as a classic of the genre. With the release of their first album, Univers Zero went on to co-found the hugely influential "Rock in Opposition" movement with four similarly-minded bands. Active until 1987 and then reactivated in the late 1990s, Univers Zero are considered to be one of the greatest avant-garde rock bands of all time. Working in a world-class studio, the album has been re-mixed from the original multi-track tapes and remastered. It has never sounded better. The front is restored to be a facsimile of the original issue, and included is a 16-page booklet with many never-before seen photos, as well as a very complete history of the band up to the recording of this, their first album. A 28-minute, never-released, live bonus track is included."

"Active in music for over 40 years, Lars Hollmer first got together with his friends to play music in late-'60s Sweden. This band eventually became the legendary 'Rock In Opposition' band, Samla Mammas Manna. Concurrently towards the end of Samla's original life-span (the band reformed in the '00s and is recording and playing shows again), Lars started a solo career, where he emphasized his very personal compositions and his accordion-playing, of which he is a master. Lars' solo albums have a great warmth, intimacy, and even innocence to them. Although he makes music that can be abrasive and even purposefully a bit demented, with rough textures, quirky instrumentation, and unusual rhythms and time signatures, Hollmer's compositions are mostly tuneful and easy-going, sometimes catchy, and often disarmingly lovely. In addition to Lars' performance on accordions and keyboards, percussion and vocals, also appearing are Michel Berckmans (Univers Zero) on bassoon, English horn and oboe, Santiago Jimenez on violins and Andreas Tengberg on cello, among others."

"CRC from Finland is still a fresh name to the world. He already released on Force Inc, Phonocult and a few local labels, but under different disguises. After his track on Curle 009 (remixed by the mighty Convextion because he liked it so much!) CRC then got signed to Arne Weinberg's label for a track on their first compilation. His 'The Nymph' track, has been a secret weapon for many months. Combine the melodic virtuosity of a young Mathew Jonson with the deepness of the current Detroit sound and you're almost there. Truly a blinder! Wav is no other than that same CRC together with his good friend and fellow Finnish producer Aki 'Artificial' Latvamäki. Their 'Nyquist Plot' outing seems the perfect highlight in a Sven Väth set to us, so be sure to check it out!"
