"Mark Morgan (formerly of Sightings and Silk Purse) and Gaute Granli first met in Brooklyn at The Glove in 2017 while Granli was on tour from his home country of Norway. The following year, Morgan embarked on a solo European tour and he and Granli did three shows together in Norway. Ultimately finding each other reasonably tolerable and able to agree to disagree on punk versus prog, they soon thereafter toured together in the fall of 2019 in Europe for 50 days with each playing solo. As the tour progressed, both found themselves influencing and being influenced by the other and by the end, they decided they should do a band together (easier to book one act rather than a package deal). Plans were made to reconvene in 2020 to record and possibly tour but then Covid threw a wrench into the works. A couple of years later, Rump State finally started playing and recording together in 2021 at Entropy Studio in Redford, Michigan (notably the childhood home of Ted Nugent who purportedly refers to it as 'Tedford'). Outside of agreeing that there should be a strong focus on duo vocals and that Morgan would play guitar and Granli electronics, not much else was discussed in advance of first playing together. From these sessions, their first LP Retaliation Aesthetics was cobbled together and eventually released on the Parisian No Lagos label in March 2023. Since then, Rump State has toured the USA once and Europe multiple times. Psychic Sidekick, Rump State's second album, is a jarring, dizzying (even!) collision; prior notions of song disassembly and aural properties being repossessed-then-sold-for-scrap were already due for reassessment. Morgan and Granli have rendered such arguments moot, and if you prefer 'discussion' to argument, congrats on being so (fucking) civilized. That's not gonna diminish this album's impact one iota."

Saxophonist and producer Ben Vince presents his sixth album, Street Druid, the first in almost six years via AD 93. Street Druid merges acoustic, manipulated, and electronic sound. It has saxophone, synth, voice, guitars and drum machine, and features drum kit from Moses Boyd. It features artwork by Byzantia Harlow. It is at once tender, psychedelic and fierce. It is not interested in genre or category, and lasts just under 45 minutes. Ben Vince is a striking composer and performer, known for his live improvised saxophone explorations and inventive techniques in creating new rhythms, textures and moods. Through live improvisation, sonic manipulation, reprocessing and looping, his spontaneous yet intuitive approach and collaborative nature surpasses the seeming limitations of his primary instrument. His energetic and immersive solo shows encapsulate an artist at the height of their powers and is now a prominent player among a new breed of experimental artists, as well as having performed with improv ritual EP/64, Charles Hayward, Coby Sey, Valentina Magaletti, and as part of experimental post-punk band Housewives. Vince has also notable studio collaborations with electronic producer Joy Orbison, Oscar-nominated experimental pop artist/composer Mica Levi, and many others spread across the musical spectrum including El-B, Astrid Sonne, Sugai Ken, Louis Carnell, Mark Sanders, Alpha Maid, Gigi Masin, Rat Heart, Cucina Povera, and Moin.

ARLEN 012LP
|
Formed in Southend in the late 90's, Beatglider's tale is a familiar one taking in early acclaim only for momentum and promise to be dashed by major label statis and indifference. After the release of the debut long-player, 40 Days Of Summer, in 1999 the band signed to Sony subsidiary Lakota and decamped to LA to record its follow-up, Dreaming Of Roads, an album that was never to see the light of day. And now, over 20 years later, Dreaming Of Roads eventually gets a deserved release via the Arlen label. A beautiful 11-track understated delight which musically falls somewhere between the likes of Elliott Smith, Grandaddy, Yo La Tengo and Sparklehorse, the album has not only stood the test of time, but arguably sounds as fresh as ever.

BALMAT 003B-LP
|
Repress. Following her debut album, I'll Look for You in Others (Past Inside the Present), Patricia Wolf joins Spain's Balmat label with See-Through, her second album. See-Through finds the Portland, Oregon musician and field recordist continuing to develop her signature style of ambient, balancing radiant soundscaping with a carefully expressive sensibility. But the album is also marked by an important difference. She wrote and recorded many of the album's songs quickly, in preparation for an August 2021 broadcast on the online radio platform 9128 Live. Excited for the opportunity to play live after more than a year of the pandemic, Wolf decided to write all new material for the event, working with a lean setup of Octatrack, Roland Synth Plus 10, Make Noise 0-Coast, and Novation Summit. She also picked up an acoustic guitar that her brother had loaned her. Though the tracks may linger on the heaviness of loss, Wolf says, "What I discovered is that a stronger archetype had grown inside me to steer my emotions and thoughts to a better place." "Wistfulness" and "Upward Swimming Fish" -- her first experiments with VST synthesizers -- balance the bittersweet embrace of melancholy with the freedom to choose happiness. "Pacific Coast Highway," the album's lone song with drums, might at first seem like an outlier. But it also signals Wolf's interest in finding a fusion between the introspection of ambient and the togetherness of beat-oriented music. "Experiencing loss and isolation is what drove me into gentler territories of sound," she says, "but I want to start making more beat-oriented music. After an extended period of loss and isolation, I'm ready to experience more joyous and social things." Listeners with keen ears might recognize the album's closing song, "Springtime in Croatia." This marks its first appearance on vinyl, and its spiritual home is undoubtedly here, at the close of See-Through. As the bookending answer to the opening "Woodland Encounter" -- another song in which field recordings play a crucial role -- it closes the circle of an album that is itself keyed to the steadily turning cycles of life.

Joseph Omicil, Jr, a.k.a. Jowee Omicil, is a Haitian-Canadian jazz musician. He has worked in the past with artists such as Roy Hargrove, Pharoah Sanders, Tony Allen, Kenny Garrett, Jacob Desvarieux, Glen Ballard, Harold Faustin, and Michel Martell. He hosted Quincy Jones' 85th birthday celebration at Montreux Festival. He also starred in the Netflix series The Eddy, produced by Damien Chazelle, and Le temps d'aimer, directed by Katell Quillévéré (Cannes Festival 2023). The Bois-Caïman ceremony was Haiti's first major collective uprising against slavery. On his new album, SpiriTuaL HeaLinG: Bwa KaYimaN FreeDoM SuiTe, Jowee performs his ancestors' revolution in his own way. Jowee brought together all his inner tubes, soprano, alto, tenor, wood, clarinets, piccolo flute, cornet, that blows, that winds, that rumbles. This record is an incantation, a therapy, it cleanses the world by drawing on the fantasized memory of the Haitian revolution. There are "Freedom Suites" by Sonny Rollins, Max Roach, and others. Prayer music, music to break the chains in your head and on your wrists, music of black power and white magic. For Jowee, a kid from Montreal, son of a Haitian pastor, who sang Jesus in all the tones, and then Michael Jackson, and then 2Pac, who learned jazz from Ornette Coleman, the ceremony necessarily has the taste of free. This record is a healing hour-long improvisation.

BEWITH 056LP

2026 repress. Be With Records present a reissue of Sweet And Nice, the vital debut album from Jamaica's undisputed first lady of song Marica Griffiths, originally released in 1974. It's reggae at its most soulful. Slinking through a tight ten tracks of R&B and pop-sourced material, it became an instant best seller. Sweet And Nice has appeared over the years with a revised running order and under different titles. But the original's opening sequence of loping soul is legendary, even beyond reggae circles. These songs are now returned to how they were presented on that first Jamaican release, and under their intended album title. Be With doesn't mess with magic. Marcia's version of "Here I Am (Come and Take Me)" has long been lusted after, played by genre-hopping selectors to snapping necks for decades now. It's followed by the sophisticated, rollicking wah-wah funk of "Everything I Own" and the slice of smooth lovers soul par excellence that is "Green Grasshopper" and her ace, lilting Neil Diamond cover "Play Me". The thundering, humid funk of "Children At Play" "sounds uncannily like a precursor of Massive Attack", as FACT Mag astutely noted when they put Sweet And Nice at number 16 in their list of the 100 best albums of the 1970s. Otherworldly, moody, and essential. Side two keeps the fire burning. "Sweet, Bitter Love" should leave you swooning, and is also one of the album's alternate titles. Curtis Mayfield's already-eternal "Gypsy Man" follows, recast as proto-lovers rock. "There's No Me Without You" is elevated to canonical status by the majestic, forlorn horns of the Federal Soul Givers and Marcia's heartbreaking delivery. And if this doesn't get you then surely the next track will: arguably the definitive version of Ewan MacColl's "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face". "I Just Don't Want To Be Lonely" re-takes its rightful place at the end of the LP's second side... but Be With Records added an entire second record of rare material recorded around the same time as Sweet And Nice, much of it unavailable since it was originally released. Amongst these 14 extra tracks you'll find the exquisite late-60s singles "Melody Life" and "Mark My Word" which, along with the sumptuous reading of "Band Of Gold". All material is remastered. 140 gram vinyl.

2026 repress, on translucent magenta vinyl. now on "A reissue of Bikini Kill's second EP, Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah. Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah was recorded in 1992 with Tim Green (Nation of Ulysses) at The Embassy - a group-house in Washington, D.C. - and was the first Bikini Kill release to feature the band's song, 'Rebel Girl.' Originally a split EP with the Brighton, UK-based band, Huggy Bear, the B-side now features seven previously unreleased Bikini Kill songs drawn from era-appropriate live shows and practice tapes. The artwork has also been updated to include archival photos and liner notes from the Bratmobile's Erin Smith, Comet Gain's David Feck, and the members of Bikini Kill. Bikini Kill was a feminist punk band based in Olympia, WA and Washington, D.C., forming in 1990 and breaking up in 1997. Kathleen Hanna sang, Tobi Vail played drums, Billy Karren (a.k.a. Billy Boredom) played guitar and Kathi Wilcox played bass. 2026 repress. Black Editions present the first ever vinyl edition of Tokyo Flashback, the legendary 1991 compilation that defined the Tokyo psychedelic movement and first brought it to the outside world. Tokyo Flashback is one of the most iconic compilations in the history of underground music. Originally released by Japan's P.S.F. Records, Tokyo Flashback defined the breathtakingly unique and previously obscured musical movement that had been developing in Japan since the late 1970s. The compilation features some of the earliest released recordings by Keiji Haino, High Rise, Masaki Batoh's Ghost, White Heaven, Fushitsusha, Kousokuya, and Marble Sheep. It captures the excitement and energy of a Tokyo awash in Technicolor and deep blacks; the music echoing krautrock, psychedelic freak-outs, garage, and no wave. At the same time it reveals astonishing, totally idiosyncratic expansions of rock music. In time, Tokyo Flashback expanded to a synonymous nine volume series that, over the following two decades, unveiled Japan's ever evolving soundscapes to the rest of the world. Tokyo Flashback is a defining statement of late 20th century Japanese psychedelic music and an essential primer to the world of P.S.F. All tracks are exclusive, this edition features the first time translation of the original liner notes. Black Editions' deluxe edition is entirely re-mastered and marks the first release of Tokyo Flashback outside of Japan and it's first ever vinyl issue. Also features Verzerk. Newly created artwork and design expanding on the original by Rob Carmichael at SEEN Sudio; Housed in custom printed deluxe Stoughton gatefold jacket and slipcase, including full color printed inner sleeves and inserts with soft touch and spot UV gloss finishes; Remastered and cut by Pete Lyman at Infrasonic Sound; Pressed to high quality vinyl at RTI.

A chance meeting in Mexico City set Points of Inaccessibility into motion. When Ibero-American composer Rafael Anton Irisarri crossed paths with Dutch media artist Jaco Schilp at MUTEK in 2024, a conversation about how technology shapes perception revealed an unexpected common ground. Schilp invited Irisarri to a spring 2025 residency at Uncloud, the Utrecht-based collective he co-founded, where Irisarri's sound began to take form amid an environment shaped by Schilp's visual research. The Uncloud studio was located inside the former Pieter Baan Centre, a forensic psychiatric prison where suspects of violent crimes were once confined. Its long history of silence and containment shaped the atmosphere in which the project developed. Within this setting, Irisarri coaxed long bowed-guitar tones through a network of pedals and looping systems. The raw gestures thickened into a vaporous and architectural field of sound. Schilp processed the material through a custom point-cloud software patch that produced images in continuous flux. The visuals flickered, dissolved and reformed like memories that resist coherence, functioning as a digital Rorschach that reflected the observer's own perception. Amid these spectral echoes, the project evolved into an examination of how the past persists within present signals. Irisarri improvised throughout the residency, generating material that allowed the visuals to develop in parallel. Once back in his New York studio, he began shaping the recordings by carving pathways through the improvisations and mapping selected passages into MIDI. This process allowed him to build outward from the bowed-guitar material with minimal overdubs, adding Prophet 5 textures, Moog bass and strings that expanded the harmonic field while keeping the original performances at the center. To refine the structure, Abul Mogard provided editorial input, working with Irisarri's stems to guide transitions and strengthen the overall pacing. What emerges is a work that examines the tension between technological systems and human presence. Points of Inaccessibility asks whether connection is still possible within environments shaped by mediation and delay, or whether we have become isolated points within the very networks that promise proximity. Points of Inaccessibility is presented on BioVinyl. Mastered by Stephan Mathieu. Artwork by Jaco Schilp. Design and layout by Daniel Castrejón.

Double LP version. Following Léve Léve Vol. 1, this second volume continues a long-term exploration of the popular music of São Tomé and Príncipe, with a clear focus on rhythm, movement and dancefloor energy. Curated by Tom B., Léve Léve Vol. 2 brings together emblematic recordings from the 1970s and 1980s, carefully restored and remastered, designed as much for close listening as for DJ use. The compilation deepens and completes the first volume by returning to key groups such as Sangazuza, Conjunto Equador, Africa Negra, and Pedro Lima, while also unveiling previously unreleased or hard-to-find tracks. Across the record, puxa and socopê rhythms unfold with remarkable intensity, capturing these bands at the height of their powers: tight arrangements, driving grooves and a strong sense of collective momentum. Beyond celebration, Léve Léve Vol. 2 also reflects a precise cultural and political context. Several songs reference Luso-African independence struggles, spirituality, love and everyday life, anchoring this music in a history shaped by resistance, circulation and hybridization. Recorded in São Tomé, Luanda or Lisbon -- often with the involvement of key figures from the Lusophone diaspora -- these tracks reveal a modern musical landscape that has long remained under-documented. Conceived as a living record rather than a static archival object, this compilation speaks equally to DJs and curious listeners. It once again affirms Bongo Joe's approach: bringing powerful, popular and complex music back into circulation, without nostalgia or exoticism, and making it fully present today. Also featuring Sum Alvarinho, Tiny das Neves e Conjunto Sol d'África, Conjunto Mindelo, Bulawê N'Guli Fala, Quinta das Palmeiras, and Os Úntuès.

"Pat Kelly's So Proud from 1979 stands as a masterful blend of rocksteady elegance and 1970s reggae consciousness. Backed by The Aggrovators and mixed by King Tubby, Kelly's silky vocals glide over deep rhythms, balancing heartfelt love songs with socially aware themes. Often likened to soul legends like Sam Cooke, Kelly's refined tenor and emotive delivery shine in this reissue, restoring a sought-after gem in the Burning Sounds catalogue."

Chris Liebing and Charlotte de Witte present their second-ever collaborative release, Symphonie des Seins (Symphony of Existence). The release, taking in an original alongside a Dub mix from Liebing, follows 2019's Liquid Slow from the pair. A surging acid-beast channeling mid-'90s techno energy, Symphonie des Seins sees de Witte delivering a tweaky, spoken vocal comprising the hallucinogen-fueled diaries of ayahuasca and DMT trip reports that Liebing stumbled upon online. Crisp but heady, old school but utterly contemporary with its delivery, Symphonie des Seins sees two techno artists with very different formative eras converge perfectly with a razor-sharp piece of dancefloor mayhem.

"From its humble beginnings in 2001 as a Civil War themed album, through multiple incarnations ('Feast Of Manias,' 'Tiger Love' and more), Animal Lover took shape in a way no other Residents album had before. Evolving and morphing across multiple distinct phases, with contributions from collaborators as well as The Residents themselves, the album saw the group explore new sonic territory, complex arrangements and a contemporary sound whilst retaining their own unmistakable aesthetic. This 'Evolution Edition' provides over forty unreleased tracks showcasing the 2001-2004 development of the album, including a detour into abandoned songs such as 'Vanishing Genitalia' and 'Starvation Demon,' as well as contemporary outtakes and the 'Imaginary Jack' suite. Featuring notes from Brian Poole and Carla Fabrizio, and the usual insightful essay from Jim Knipfel (based on the recollections of The Cryptic Corporation's Homer Flynn), this set explores a level of access and detail rarely available to fans of any particular album. A must-hear for Residents fans and collectors, including those not already familiar with Animal Lover, and an essential part of the ongoing pREServed series."

"Forty or so Damaged Bug tunes from the past seven years were orphaned/unfinished, which is pretty rare for me. I just kept having other things going on and life kept getting in the way. And frankly, the songs were all over the place so I didn't see a thread in there, but in light of current events in the world, I feel like it's every artist's calling to construct personal messages cloaked in a moments of escapism. That's what this record is for me -- was something to clear the decks a little bit in my studio and relax my mind and keep the wolf from the door. It's a bit of a joyous/sad record dealing with hope and forgiveness, two things which I hope end up more in my life. It's abstract and poppy, fried and sugary. It exactly how I feel at the moment fried and skewed. Good luck out there and I hope this turns off the torrent for you, for a moment." --John Dwyer

"A good fun record, the new album from Lipphead -- aka the collaborative NYC duo consisting of the producer Tony Simon (Blockhead) and Eliot Lipp -- is the group's third official full-length, having released the first two records via Detroit's Young Heavy Soul label. Lipphead's music occupies the sweet spot between Blockhead's groovy, sample-based hip- hop and Eliot Lipp's upbeat electronic funk. The internationally renowned NYC producer Tony Simon -- aka Blockhead -- has released 15 albums over the past 15 years, including four acclaimed records for Ninja Tune and numerous production jobs including notable works with Aesop Rock. He is regarded as one of the modern masters of instrumental hip-hop and has more recently been releasing music on other platforms like Future Archive Recordings and Backwoodz Studios. Eliot Lipp is an electronic musician based in Brooklyn, New York. His work was picked up by Scott Herren of Prefuse 73 (Warp Records) after Herren heard him working the club circuit."

St. David unleashes Deep House Damage on Definitive Recordings. St. David now steps forward with a full EP that delivers nothing less than pure old-school house fire. The release opens with "Touch Me (Sexy Hard Dub)," a shuffling house cut with a vintage edge, driven by a rolling bassline and a sensual spoken-word female vocal. "I Like It Deep" heads into deep house territory, pairing organ stabs and a steady old-school beat with both male and female spoken-word phrases. On "Dub Swagin'", the energy kicks back up with stomping drums, chopped samples, and filtered percussion. Closing things out, "Gonna Work It" is a peak-time smasher stacked with classic vocal samples and grooving organ chords that lift the track into euphoric territory.

Pharoah Chromium is the project of German-Palestinian musician and sonic performer Ghazi Barakat. With Chronicles from the Arab Cold War, Pharoah Chromium continues his long-standing engagement with the Palestinian cause, following Gaza (LP, self-released 2015) and Jean Genet à Chatila (7", self-released 2018). In the summer of 2023, new material began to take shape from a session with flutes, EWI (an analogue synth played like a wind instrument), and belly dancing beats. At first these were instrumentals, waiting for their context. That frame appeared unexpectedly, through the discovery of Chants Révolutionnaires d'Oman on the French label Expression Spontanée -- a record that connected seamlessly with the material at hand. As you listen, Side A reveals its dedication to the children of Gaza. Without exploiting recordings from an ongoing genocide, the music instead channels hope through the voices of Omani children, offering a vision of resilience and possibility in the Middle East. Side B grows darker, more funerary, reflecting the escalation of the conflict after October 7. Trumpeter Philipp Selalmazidis, a recent collaborator, appears throughout these sessions, adding weight and urgency. Over time, the adolescent voices of the A side give way to adult voices, filling the space with anger and ideological rhetoric -- a stark progression from innocence to confrontation. This is a record that refuses detachment: a work of mourning, resistance, and improbable connections that insists on listening as an act of witness.

The first ever official release by this legendary Melbourne post-punk band who only ever existed for a number of months in 1978, but who cast an important and influential light in Australian (and global!) music, influencing the likes of the Boys Next Door/Birthday Party and The Models, the group's membership and its diaspora reading like a who's-who of crucial Australian music of the past 50 years. In the band was a young Rowland S. Howard, who would soon go onto join the BND/Birthday Party; Ollie Olsen (Whirlywirld, No, Max Q, Dogs In Space soundtrack and so much more); Janine Hall (Saints; Weddings, Parties, Anything) and Jeffrey Wegener (drummer extraordinaire for the Laughing Clowns and the Saints, among others). The Young Charlatans recorded a demo with Ron Rude, and also surviving is a live recording from the Tiger Lounge in Richmond. With help from band manager Bruce Milne, Eminent Vinyl have sourced these two recordings to make up this LP, mixing the best of the both to document 45 minutes of inspired music as young players were still grappling with the fallout of punk rock, and wishing to push the music further into more experimental and adventurous directions. Contained here are 13 original songs composed by Rowland and/or Ollie -- including an early version of Howard's defining track, "Shivers" -- remastered by Mikey Young and featuring extensive liner notes by author and friend/fan of the band, Clinton Walker. With photos, articles and ephemera provided by Bruce Milne and Phil Morland, it is housed in stunning artwork and design by Luke Fraser, including a four-page booklet.
