The third full-length from Shed eschews gimmickry for serious signal noise, strong beat-patterns, and massive power in the bass area. "Ulises Carrión's audio works clearly reflect his passion for language, its structures, sounds and meanings. He greatly enjoyed grammatically dissecting languages and trying to understand and explore their structures. His many initiatives and projects bear witness to his boundless obsessions with communication and circulation of works and ideas as a cultural strategy. This LP includes 'Hamlet for Two Voices' (1977) in which two voices read out the names of the characters in the Shakespearean play as they appear in the script, audibly representing the structure of the roles the characters perform. 'Poema' (1977) orally represents the structure and spatial characteristics of a poem, by listing all its structural elements: words, paragraphs and verses, etc. The LP also includes 'Aritmetica,' 'Three Spanish Pieces,' and 'First Spanish Lesson,' as well as the legendary '45 Revoluciones por Minuto', the grooviest track ever created within the context of conceptual art. All pieces, recorded at the Instituut voor Sonologie in Utrecht between September and October 1977, have in common their refusal of discursiveness. They are not meant to be true or beautiful. Each piece is a series of vocal units that unfolds according to simple rules. Their beginning and end are arbitrary: they could go on infinitely. They should go on. They go on. First LP ever issued by Ulises Carrion who in 1975 'created' the legendary bookshop-gallery 'Other Books & So', the first space dedicated exclusively to artists' publications such as artists' records, books, magazines, postcards. "Alga Marghen very proudly presents the complete documentation of Eliane Radigue's sound installations from 1969-1970. These previously unpublished recordings include the broad tectonic vibrations of 'Omnht', the celestial voices of 'Usral', 'Stress Osaka's' massive chant, and the moving horizon in 'Vice-Versa, Etc...' The works of the feedback period finally revealed! It is amazing that she could build such formidably organic sonic edifices in her home studio with the primitive machines given to her by Pierre Henry: three tape recorders, a mixing board, an amplifier, two loudspeakers and a microphone. Eliane previously worked for him at the Studio d'Essai of the R.T.F. from 1955 to 1957, after having met Pierre Schaeffer almost by chance, who invited her to learn the techniques of musique concrète. Created 10 years after her Studio d'Essai experience, the Feedback Works of Eliane Radigue immediately take a new direction from the explorations of musique concrète. Her adventure is intuitively going toward flux, toward contemplative stasis: a music of continuous sounds, of apparently simple structures, which permits the revelations and expansion of rich acoustic phenomena. It is as if her musical work was in some way a martial art, as if she meditated for 10 years before striking the first blow, with an impressive precision! First pressing of 400 copies also including a 16-page LP-size booklet with original photos, scores and liner notes as well as a second LP titled Vice-Versa, Etc..., originally a small handmade box, signed and numbered, realized as a multiple on the occasion of a show at Lara Vincy's gallery in 1970, which contained a reel of magnetic tape and the instructions for use. It indicates that all playback speeds are possible, forward or backward, as well as any combination of two channels, on several recorders, ad libitum... This LP presents two versions done by Emmanuel Hoelterbach following the indications of Eliane Radigue to the letter, respecting her composition methods." Housed in a full-color gatefold sleeve.

"Owls Talk is a superb encounter between young French saxophonist Alexandra Grimal and three venerable jazz masters. The album was recorded in New York in 2009 and originally released in France on the Marge label, but now sees a proper international release from Aparté. Grimal composed or co-composed nine of the album's fifteen tracks. She described the sessions as, 'An incredible encounter. A moment suspended in time. A waking dream... or the awakening of a dream?' Lee Konitz, Gary Peacock and the late, great Paul Motian need no introduction, and not surprisingly, their work here is exemplary."

This is the third album release on Andrea Parker's avant-garde Aperture label, a label carving its own niche in experimental electronic music. Other artists to date have included Oberman Knocks, clifordandcalix, and remixes from the likes of Luke Vibert, Freeform, Majestic 12, Andrea Parker and Daz Quayle. The album at hand is a concept album which re-works and re-interprets original, unheard sounds from the Daphne Oram archives to create eight unique original pieces culminating in an album which includes two live performances by Andrea Parker and Daz Quayle. Done purely as a labor of love in their spare time, Parker and Quayle have incorporated some of the less-obvious, unnerving sounds they discovered hidden in the archives to explore a different side of Daphne Oram -- a darker side. What developed was a deeply personal album, drawing on Parker's in-depth knowledge of Daphne Oram's life and works, containing pieces created as they hoped Daphne Oram herself would have done with the sounds that she had made. Daphne Oram needs no introduction... British pioneer and forerunner of modern electronic music, and founder of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, she's the genius who built the Oramics machine. She is also one of Parker's idols. It was her obsessive interest in collecting sound effects records and her passion for electronic pioneers that first introduced her to Daphne Oram and the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. A chance meeting with Phil Howlett at The Royal Festival Hall ultimately led to her direct involvement with the Daphne Oram Trust, through trustee Dr. Mick Grierson, who gave Parker permission to create a unique concept album using some of Daphne Oram's original sounds. In doing so she became one of the first people to be given unrestricted access to the Daphne Oram Archives, containing hundreds of tapes (211 to be precise) of original, unheard sounds created by Daphne Oram herself. Private Dreams and Public Nightmares starts with an interview featuring Daphne Oram recorded for women's hour for the BBC. Followed by two pieces performed live by Parker and Quayle, one for the Short Circuit Festival supporting the BBC Radiophonic Workshop at The Roundhouse and also for "Oramics: The Life and Works of Daphne Oram" at The Royal Festival Hall. The album sounds minimal, yet in some pieces, up to 80 insular sounds were used to create a detailed path to lead your ear through the unknown. An intense piece of work. This album is challenging and isolationist, using a spectrum of dark sounds running throughout with the occasional beat, lots of bass that certainly weighs it down, giving it a distinctive, moody and ominous sound. There are chords as well as lots of bleeps, electronic clangs and plenty of sinister drones that force their way into your consciousness, leaving you feeling possibly unstable with emotional tension. It's fearsome, haunting and downright scary at times, certainly not for the faint-hearted. It's definitely not easy listening, but be patient, and you will find extraordinary pieces delivered in an unnerving way.

Beatcroff Slabs follows Oberman Knocks' first release on the Aperture label, the widely-acclaimed 2009 debut album 13th Smallest, and is comprised of 16 tracks that take his sounds down yet darker, more twisted corridors and into ever-expanding sonic spaces. Beatcroff Slabs' evolving sound has essentially been built around the same core elements as 13th Smallest -- those of manipulated, synthesized studio sounds, fused with field recordings of the everyday and Knocks' travels. The vocals, both snatched in public and his own, are contorted into instrumentation, and conversely synthetic sounds mutated into those with a vocal resonance -- human and beyond. The album is produced with the same rudimentary set-up and continues Knocks' unabated and unique trajectory in sound. With Beatcroff Slabs, Oberman Knocks (Nigel Truswell) has produced a visceral album which further explores his trademark themes -- densely claustrophobic cinematic pieces, as with the opening track "Ak-himp Rise," the use of arrhythmic beats such as in "Leckren Verso" and his love for bottom-heavy sonics, found on "Konshun Four." The tempo of the album veers from the thundering "Scanlon's Heaping Gore Pull" and tripped-up beats of "Degonnt Type Runners," through to the metallically-spatial and delicate "Tek-fir Blades," along with one of the album's mellower moments "Mighton Ogan Lode," where Knocks demonstrates that machine music can indeed be evocative and imbued with human emotion, as well as fully-charged with mechanical vigor.
