100% PURE (NETHERLANDS)

Artist: STERAC AKA STEVE RACHMAD
Title: Secret Life Of Machines Remastered & Remixed
Label: 100% PURE (NETHERLANDS)
Format: CD
Price: $17.00
Catalog #: PURE 011CD
Sterac aka Steve Rachmad has reached back to the first album 100% Pure ever released in 1995 -- the classic milestone in the history of Detroit techno, his own Secret Life Of Machines and has given it a whole new lease on life. Seventeen years ago, in a makeshift studio at his parent's house, Steve Rachmad crafted his first album Secret Life Of Machines under the moniker Sterac, using his music machines (Roland TR-808, R-8m, U-20, Juno 106, JX 8p, Yamaha TX-81z and FB-01). Released on 100% Pure in the same year that the internet went mainstream, everyone was blown away by the fresh, thrilling sounds and Detroit techno futuristic flavors. It was a defining moment for Steve's career and received massive support from the DJ likes of Darren Emmerson, Mark Broom, Sven Väth, Laurent Garnier and many more. The timelessness and delicious smoothness of Secret Life Of Machines forged a path immediately in the techno landscape -- a path that now Sterac aka Steve Rachmad and 100% Pure have chosen to revisit. Steve Rachmad, now hailed as the European father of Detroit techno, has chosen to recreate a selection of the original tracks tailored to today's sound, using the very same machines he had back then and including a selection of his new remixes for the CD album.

50 WEAPONS (GERMANY)

Artist: SHED
Title: The Killer
Label: 50 WEAPONS (GERMANY)
Format: 2LP
Price: $21.00
Catalog #: 50 008LP
Gatefold double LP version. The third full-length from Shed eschews gimmickry for serious signal noise, strong beat-patterns, and massive power in the bass area. Rich in variety on tracks like "Silent Witness," a massive groover, to "I Come by Night," a real big four-to-the-floor slammer, to nice and lovely melodic tracks like "Gas Up" or the album version of the pre-single track, "The Praetorian." Once again the album feels like one big piece. Every track accepts the subordinate role in this game, and all the tracks are hits. Made for the pimping PA in your car, for home listening (at your neighbor's cost) or also to enjoy with a good pair of headphones. Aimed to be more homogeneous, the album is first and foremost a true techno love story.

ACADEMY LPS

Artist: TEX SOUL AND THE BAYONETS
Title: Uto Nwa/Osi Na Ngada
Label: ACADEMY LPS
Format: 7"
Price: $8.50
Catalog #: ASS 004EP
"Contemporary Afro-funk aficionados need not feel inadequate for not having heard of the musicians known as Tex Soul - even at the peak of his brief career in the mid-1970s, he never approached widespread national recognition in his native Nigeria. Unheard-of in the dance halls and on the radio waves of the country's principal metropolis of Lagos, Tex Soul was a hero in the Eastern city of Aba, where his prowess as the consummate entertainer lived as the stuff of local legend. As a performer who could dance like James Brown, play the guitar like Jimi Hendrix, and belt out a song with the soulfulness of ages, Tex Soul's name was prefixed by the word 'Showman," almost as a permanent honorific. Now Voodoo Funk and Academy Records are proud to expose this tragically overlooked artist to a new audience, digging deep to unearth the single Uto Nwa b/w Osi Na Ngada, recorded by Tex in 1972 with his early soul group The Bayonets, forgotten even by the hardest Aba scenesters!"

AIR TEXTURE (GERMANY)

Artist: VA
Title: Air Texture Volume II
Label: AIR TEXTURE (GERMANY)
Format: 2CD
Price: $20.00
Catalog #: AIR 002CD
The Air Texture Volume series asks two producers to curate a CD each of material for combined release. Producers are selected from the worlds of ambient, modern composition, avant-garde, and experimental electronic music. Air Texture Volume II is curated by loscil and Rafael Anton Irisarri. As electronic music moves into the rock arena, it's essential to take note and respect the history of experimental electronic music: from Satie's furniture music and La Monte Young's drones to Cage's I Ching compositions and Eno's works first dubbed by him as "ambient." From there and in the tradition of Excursions In Ambience and Pop Ambient, Air Texture looks to catalog and promote the diverse world of new ambient, experimental, and less beat-oriented electronic music, through the musician's perspective. Highlights include: Brian McBride (Stars Of The Lid), Pan American (Labradford), and Simon Scott (Slowdive). Features other artists such as Marcus Fischer, Chris Herbert, Strategy, Solo Andata, P Jørgensen, Rob Bridgett, Mitchell Akiyama, Marcus Fjellström, Sawako, Library Tapes, Lissom, Mokira, Benoît Pioulard, Eluvium, Kyle Bobby Dunn, Lawrence English and bvdub.

AMS (ITALY)

Artist: HUNKA MUNKA
Title: Dedicato a Giovanna G.
Label: AMS (ITALY)
Format: LP
Price: $46.00
Catalog #: AMS 052LP
"Keyboardist Roberto Carlotto from Varese, whose nickname was Hunka Munka, began playing since his childhood, though his musical career was seriously compromised by an aircraft accident that caused him some heavy injuries. As a solo artist, Carlotto was easily recognized by his very good technical quality and the high level of his equipment that included an incredible number of different keyboards and even the early examples of tape drum machines. His only solo album, Dedicato a Giovanna G., with his outrageous cover, is a soft-prog album, obviously dominated by Hunka's keyboards (especially his self-customized Hammond organ) and odd tremolo voice resembling Demis Roussos or Bee Gees. Among the backing musicians were drummer Nunzio 'Cucciolo' Favia from Osage Tribe and guitarist Ivan Graziani that had also played in Anonima Sound before leaving for a successful solo career. The album contains 11 short tracks, two of which also released on single, mostly in a pop style and sometimes marred by orchestral and backing singers arrangements, like in 'Io canterò per te.' Anyway it contains some nice moments for prog fans, like 'Ruote e sogni,' the album's longest track with very good organ playing. Wonderful reissue with original gimmick cover."
