OSCT 002EP

Oscillate Tracks 002 is the second compilation from the Oscillate crew who have been running the successful event series at ://about blank since 2015. Their second compilation EP is highly anticipated. This time with Melbourne-based producer Hymns, known for his beautifully restrained, spacious electro, Superhexagon regular J. Wiltshire, crossing over into his own glistening take on modern dubstep, Schloss Records founder Karima F whose percussion and berserk melodies know no bounds and Perth-based artist Peter McAvan (PTMC), upheaving all expectations with his surprising rhythms and syncopation. Diverse, yet of the same palette, this record paints a dreamy yet powerful picture.

Second release for La Casa Tropical. In the early '80s, Mbaqanga stars The Soul Brothers formed a touring group first named Jaws after member Jaws Dlathu, later named Bayete with their first recording. After a failed debut, Bayete went into the studio with Jerry Mhlanga and Decibel Music, the English division of De La Music interested in capitalizing on disco. "Blue Monday" is a cheap sounding drinking song. "Open Your Heart (Vula)" has a natural feel reminiscent of the pre-MIDI, early '80s disco sound, perfectly blending synths and keyboards, funky guitar, and the amazing vocals of Jabu.

What first strikes the eye of the Cosmic Temple releases are the covers, with fluorescent colors, which form a patchwork created by Aldo Drudi (the designer of Valentino Rossi). But immediately after, the music takes the stage. Chapter 2 takes the listener to lands of wonders with the phrasing of "Zircaloy", and still that yin and yang that composed "Krebs Cycle", with Burattini on synth, a race horse deep disco at 120 bpm that goes into stratospheres, and "Afelio", a lethargic space ballet at 90 bpm.

"Second Octopus is Mr. Statik with an excellent 3 Channels remix. Statik is a Greek gentleman of some refinement, his tracks caught our ear on Mathias Schaffhauser's Ware imprint as part of the MudMax duo and his talent for combining careful modern production and late night hysteria drew us to him as a future roster artist. Then we come to 3 Channels, who have blown up on Crosstown Rebels and Trapez and their own imprint, Channel. Their DJ sets kick ass all over the place and their remixes, from Claude Vonstroke to Decryptor have proved them as the bright stars of the European house movement. This mix is inspired, relentless, unusually energetic and yet typically 3 Channels, aimed straight into the heat and haze of the night."
