For the fifth release on Grand River's experimental label, One Instrument, synthesizer maestro Donato Dozzy gifts us with an incredible, psychedelic 38-minute journey. "Slow Train" has been created using the EMS Synthi AKS, an extraordinary and rare portable modular analog synthesizer, first manufactured in 1972. This One Instrument Sessions release highlights the artist's most experimental side on what will be his seventh studio album. These tracks are the honest outcome from a long and intimate engagement with the instrument which were produced in his San Felice Circeo studio during an "altered state" night in October 2013. The resulting music is one of fluid continuity; Dozzy's most extensive, vigorous, and determined application of real-time studio recording to date. The intensity of both parts of "Slow Train" are comparable to a mindfulness experience in which the listener's perception of reality slows down enabling every small detail of the sound to become alive and increasingly vivid. Edition of 500.
Few DJs and producers are as widely and universally acclaimed in techno circles as Italian Donato Dozzy. He has a rare ability to work his way into peoples' minds in both contemporary and classical settings, conjuring real mood and atmosphere. Never one to pay heed to the zeitgeist, he prefers to deal in hypnotic soundscapes that really take you on a trip. Enigmatic as he is, and laidback as he seems, as an artist he is constantly unveiling new work. Displaying a large variation in terms of sound and method across many new releases each year -- some of which come on his co-owned label Spazio Disponibile -- he also puts out installations for public spaces and museums, uses obscure musical instruments, collaborates with like-minded producers, classical singers, or visual artists. Donato seems to continuously challenge himself on a creative level: whatever method he uses, though, he is always likely to permeate your cerebral cortex and rewire it in fascinating and compelling new ways.

Repressed; Double LP version. In the late '70s, the thrust of mainstream music had changed from the indigenous highlife to a more international funky disco sound. Keyboards and drum machines were the key components of the new sound. The implications on sales was real as names like Bunny Mack, Chris Okotie, Christy Essien, and Jide Obi replaced Osita Osadebe and the Oriental Brothers on the charts. It was in this effervescent climate that Duomo Sounds Ltd was established by Humphrey Aniakor, a business man with no prior investment in the industry. It was simply the in-thing for a young affluent businessman. The name suggested European sophistication, modernity and a little abstraction. D U O M O Sounds, the kids loved it. The first release was Bassey Black's Someone To Love which sold over a 100,000 copies, a big hit at the time. The success of the album attracted several artists the most influential of which was Mike Umoh. He aimed for the pop market with accessible, funky arrangements. However his affinity for funk and disco has made him a reference for collectors worldwide. His LP entitled, Honey, Honey was the label's second release and his most successful album. He also produced the label's 19th release, Bindiga's No More Starvation, an Afro-boogie funk masterpiece. The album in its original format is very sought after by collectors and DJs and changes hands for huge sums. It's been described by many as cosmic funk at its finest. Christy Ogbah's disco soul/highlife records on Duomo are also very highly sought after. This new Livingstone Studio release presents the best of Duomo Sounds Ltd. for the first time. Features Christy Ogbah, Johnny O, Mike Umoh, Bindiga, Bassey Black and The Natty Messiah, Godfrey Odili, and Eunice Mokus Arimoku. Liner notes by Nigerian Music expert Uchenna Ikkone; Includes previously unpublished photos.

SUBOST 005LP

The disturbing soundtrack of 7 Hyden Park - La Casa Maledetta, directed by Alberto De Martino in 1985 and composed by Francesco De Masi, author and Roman arranger already famous for classic B-movie soundtracks such as 1982's Lo Squartatore Di New York (The New York Ripper) and 1983's Fuga Dal Bronx (Escape From The Bronx). For a long time associated with "genre cinema", De Masi had an innate passion for primitive electronics. A long suite divided into 14 movements that best describe the climate of tension and the upcoming deadlines of the featured film, a Gothic thriller in the orbit of meta-horror. The music -- sometimes a bit of a timbral, but often deliberately descriptive and overwhelming -- pin of synths and analog machines, capable of defining the desperate plot of the film. A classic, fully restored and presented here for the first time on vinyl.
