"Jamaican reggae duo Dave and Ansel Collins recorded and released their reggae debut album Double Barrel in 1971. The single 'Double Barrel' topped the UK and Jamaican charts and the follow-up 'Monkey Spanner' also enjoyed international success. 'Double Barrel' was sampled by hip hop artist Special Ed and two of Dave Barker's introductory exclamations ('Don't watch that, watch this!' from 'Funky Funky Reggae' and 'This is the heavy, heavy monster sound!' from 'Monkey Spanner') were quoted by vocalist Chas Smash, in the introduction to the Madness single, 'One Step Beyond'. All of the songs on the album were written and produced by Jamaican heavyweight Winston Riley and it was the first record that legendary drummer and percussionist Sly Dunbar played on. Shortly after the Double Barrel release Dave and Ansel split-up. Black, 180 gram vinyl."

"In the Spring of 1971, the wildly exuberant 7" single, Double Barrel shot to the top of the British pop charts, resulting in Dave Barker and Ansel Collins becoming international celebrities almost overnight. The success of the disc was repeated throughout the world and was followed soon after by the best-selling LP of the same title. Within weeks of its issue, the duo's equally vigorous Monkey Spanner provided the pair with their second major global hit, although by the time the record hit the charts, Barker and Collins were back to working on their respective solo careers. While Barker, one of Jamaica's most accomplished vocalists, relocated to Britain, Collins remained on the island, where his talents as a keyboard player remained heavily in demand throughout the remainder of the decade and into the next. Featured on this expanded version of the best-selling Trojan LP from 1971, are the UK Number One title track, the duo's Top 10 follow-up, Monkey Spanner, and an array of sought after vocal and instrumental sides for the sessions with leading producer, Winston Riley."

The Jamaican reggae duo Dave and Ansell Collins hit big-time in 1970 when they topped the UK charts with one of the all-time classic reggae singles "Double Barrel." It also became one of the first reggae hits in the USA. The distinctive chant of singer Dave Barker calling out the intro to songs, letting the listener know what was about to hit them is timeless. He also carries a great soul voice that has added magic to many a great reggae tune. Dave and Ansell are two talented artists that on their own have added so much to the reggae sounds we know and love. But together they have made a name that will go down in history as one of the great duos that came out of Jamaica and onto the world's stage. Kingston Sounds have compiled a set of songs that show the wide-ranging talents of Dave Barker and Ansell Collins.
