KIN 004EP
|
"The story of Kin records is indelibly bound up with the stellar trajectory of the Junior Boys. Following the sad and untimely death of Kin's founder Nik Kilroy last year, and by way of a tribute to him -- we're proud to present four new tunes from former Jb's beatsmith Johnny Dark. It is this latter skein of influence that Johnny explores here -- 'Can't Wait' employs the teeth crunching low-end and splintered helium cut-up vocals of classic 2-step, 'It's Too Close' echoes this with one of those killer riffs which just seems to open up space before it. 'Never Happened' relects the bassline culture of year oughties British music perfectly, where the bottom end effectively becomes the hook of the record. Closing out an exuberant twelve, comes a bonus extra dub version of the Jb's classic 'High Come Down,' with heavy vocal cut-ups and totally reprogrammed edits, sparser, deeper and totally in keeping with the spirit of the original."
