John Cohen, aka Dead Fader, first arrived on Parachute in 2016, with It Works 1 (PAR 010EP) -- a brace of warping, high-energy electronic music compositions that, while largely unclassifiable in genre, maintain a gloriously vibrant, emotive sensibility that owes much to early IDM excursions and the more abstract tenets of Krautrock. That said, the artist cites anything from Kanye West to Bach and back again as informing the decidedly experimental and potentially confounding work. His latest offering for the Milan based label continues to riff on this open-ended mesh of influence to great effect. The new LP, Jenny 153, runs out across nine tracks and operates at the fertile juncture between classical and club music compositional structures, and examines the crossover points between the two disciplines. According to the artist, the work deals with themes of acceptance and an "opening up" emotionally -- and a palpable sense of catharsis runs deep through the recordings. Colorful and undeniably cohesive, in spite of its rhythmic complexity, the recordings present a vital snapshot of the potential space that exists on the periphery of the dance music genre. Includes download code.

British left-field artist John Cohen, aka Dead Fader, returns to Parachute. The original material from Jenny 153 (PAR 019LP) is buoyed by a formidable remix package, featuring Downwards affiliate JK Flesh -- who turns in a caustic reinterpretation of "FYI"; Roly Porter of Vex'd and Tri Angle fame, who takes on "Raw Food"; and Planet Mu's Konx-Om-Pax, who reimagines "Life Cycle". It's an admirable line-up, in keeping with the aesthetic concerns of Cohen's excellent LP -- and the chosen artists turn in respectful but wholly personal work -- making for an excellent addition to growing Parachute discography.

Dead Fader, aka John Cohen, presents It Works 1. The EP kicks off with the anthem "Spinning Wheel", an earthy house track that really gets hearts racing and resonating over a throbbing bass line. "Climaxed" turns up the volume on a techno banger, reminding of Jeff Mills or Clark at their most playful. Skittering arpeggios, flying around a thumping kick drum.

Dead Fader is the alter ego of John Cohen -- former Brighton resident, now based in Berlin -- who has worked relentlessly since 2007 to realize his vision of electronic music. His tracks are characterized by pioneering sound explorations, which on one hand oscillate between sonic extremities and on the other hand carefully craft cinemascope sound worlds. Glass Underworld became a very personal exploration for Cohen; the themes investigate emotional states, and the writing process was predominantly influenced by falling in love while making the album. Furthermore, the 2014 film Interstellar visually influenced the album, mapped as an image for Cohen's tracks to exist in. "I have watched his talent, his confidence in his ability and his output just grow and grow beyond what most humans are capable of imagining, never mind making. I think that comes from a place of wonder and exploration, a place where emotion, energy and experience are important; the long and narrow, the deaf arena, the blood forest and the glass cathedrals. Dead Fader rips you backwards through the portal as existence explodes around you, but you don't perish in the fire. It's just a ride." --Barry Prendergast, former partner in Dead Fader

On Small But Hard Recordings, Dead Fader presents Scorched, an extension of his previous work in the realms of sonic extremity. Dead Fader is recognized for Cohen's use of heavy distortion, melding noise with infectious dancefloor sensibility. With Scorched, this world collapses in on itself. Stripped-back textures expose raw extremity and breadth. Dead Fader has appeared alongside Flying Lotus, The Bug, Seefeel, Venetian Snares, and Clark. Recent festival appearances include Supersonic, Roskilde, Elevate, Norberg, and Sonic Acts. "Scorched is like being driven over wasteland in the boot of a car." --Mark Clifford (Seefeel)

Heavyweight pressing with digital download code. Limited to 300 copies. In the wake of 2012's Work It, No, Dead Fader returns with not one, but two full-length releases. The dual release format celebrates the two distinct strains of Cohen's output. Most recognized for his sonic extremity, previous Dead Fader work has focused on heavy distortion, melding noise with infectious dancefloor sensibility. Blood Forest redresses the balance, introducing bittersweet textures and lush, detuned synth melodies. Neoclassical influences are fragmented and reinvented, sprinkled with elements of electronic classics such as Boards Of Canada. Cohen's masterful battle between chaos and control, tension and release provokes all the right emotional responses, without giving it away too easily.

Robot Elephant Records are proud to present Work It, No, a new EP by Berlin-based synthesizer extremist Dead Fader. The four tracks span experimental, grinding post-industrial dubstep and techno with touches of woozy, codeine-drenched hip-hop. Intelligently-distressed synths and deteriorated samples tap into your innermost cerebral hemispheres while unapologetic dread noise blasts through your core. Comes in full-color sleeves with artwork provided by Japanese artist Fumihiko Yokouchi. Mastered and cut by Frank Merritt at Carvery Cuts in London.
