Matthew Dear aka False presents the Love Letters EP -- two tracks that deliver a very specific message, ranging from the metallic, tribal groove of the title track to the rolling, hypnotic techno of "Practice," proving that he's among the most inventive, enterprising and versatile producers around. His subtle use of processed vocals lends an earthy, organic quality to the synthetic storms on offer, infusing the groove with affirmative shouts and indecipherable chants that conjure images of psychedelic rituals.

"Drawing on the gut and outer edges of what and where Detroit techno has (be)come, Matthew Dear is in deep. Over the course of the past three years, his output has rallied him into orbit with stellar releases backed by a determined pace and power on the road as a live performer and DJ. His False alias, home to Canada's Plus 8 Records and Minus imprints, has become an escape-ground for his further experiments into expanding new horizons. 'River Camping' serves up Matthew's second single for Minus, with added bounce and texture from 2004's 'Sink the Ship' single. The brilliant title track swoons with smooth pads, erratic alarms, bells and Dear's sneaky vocals, taking the quieter but still very rhythmic path of composition. 'Falling Away's' deep bass builds the platform for a pulsing slow jam with Dear organically layering in new and unique subtleties throughout. The single finishes up with 'Tanning Booths,' the most pitched-up of the three new tracks. Haunted and pounding from the start, this is territory where Dear is most comfortable; shuffling layers of melting percussion in with bass lines and tones, from one of techno's most freely developing producers today."

"False -- one of the alter egos of Detroit's Matthew Dear, returns to his Canadian stable for a new romp of minimal techno. It seems that even in the view of critical success and a 2003 full of top-notch releases Dear shows no signs of slowing down. 'Sink The Ship' brings his now-established sound and production know-how forward, delivering four brand new tracks of minimal groovy digital funk."

"After a string of critically acclaimed releases for the Ghostly International and Spectral Sound labels, Ann Arbor, Michigan's False (aka Matthew Dear) closes up his trilogy of three singles for Plus 8 with the sizzling Beginner's Luck. Beginner's Luck nabs Dear's chunky approach to minimal tech-hop with an addictive element of vocal hiccups, clacketty percussion and random bleep melody. His basslines continue to impress, driving his shifty beats and panned accents into a sole sound ala False."
