De la Catessen Records presents Cut Out the Day, the third album by Adelaide world music/cabaret outfit, Golonka. Cut Out the Day is a wild and original mix of gypsy vibes, European blues and gritty klezmer: a mixture of originals and covers from the fringes of Eastern Europe. This theatrical collection of original numbers and poetic arrangements of a wide range of eastern European folk tunes boasts moments of sublimely atmospheric melancholy, and the laughter of dark whimsy. Whatever trouble and sadness might be the seed of a song, Golonka's cure is furious rhythm and wild dancing. Golonka's five musicians from diverse backgrounds have performed all around the world, each having carved out their own career with a distinct musical voice that makes Golonka more than the sum of its considerable parts. The group formed almost 20 years ago and have been gigging constantly since then, with highlights including Womad and a tour of Japan. Featuring Dylan Woolcock on vocals, guitar and domra, Quincy Grant on clarinet and guitar, Gareth Chin on accordion, Belinda Gehlert on violin, and Harley Gray on double bass.
