Phonique is back on Dessous with the help of lovable crooner Louie Austen in this modern slice of exquisite electro-pop. Taken from Phonique's astounding album Kissing Strangers (DES 015CD), the original version of "Endless Love" takes on a fluffy, summery electronic vibe, spreading Louie's vocals throughout the track to glorious effect. Remixer Alex Niggemann provides a tougher, more beat-heavy interpretation that fuses crisp garage drums with some contemporary stab action. Also includes a vocal version and a dub version by Aera.

DES 012CD

2007 release. The smart and charming Berlin-based producer Phonique (Michael Vater) returns with his second album, featuring a limited edition bonus CD with 12 more new Phonique tracks in one mix. Good Idea is a twinkling rainbow, teeming with positive vibes and breathing the cosmopolitan creativity of a widely travelled mind. Good Idea can be described as modern electronic music in the broadest sense, it's difficult to pigeonhole the album as it combines so many influences, ranging from deep- to electro-house, from nu-disco to hip-hop, from lounge to minimal and techno to pop. Phonique and his production partner Alex Krüger join with the talents of well reputed artists like Erlend Øye (Whitest Boy Alive, Kings Of Convenience), Richard Davis, Ian Whitelaw, Shadee and Rodney Hunter of Aphrodelics, Data MC and Marc Hype as well as top electronic producers like Steve Bug, Gui Boratto, Vincenzo, Zoo Brazil, Badmouth (Mazi & Cass) and talents such as Ruben or Liora. The collaboration highlights of the album include "Casualities" (featuring Erlend Øye), which merges uplifting airiness with melancholy in the distinctive Erlend way; the soulful "Worked It Out" (featuring Ian Whitelaw and Meitz) and the powerful "Computer Kidz" (featuring Shadee). But the flow of the entire album makes it difficult to pick out just a few tracks. On the second limited edition bonus CD, you'll find the more dancefloor-dedicated facet of Phonique's creativity in a homogeneous and highly dynamic mix by Phonique. Another twelve all new Phonique tracks fall into place perfectly, ranging from deeper to electro to more minimal and techy house tracks. The mix reflects the unique dynamics of a Phonique DJ set. Good Idea is a strong musical statement; fresh, inspiring and innovative.

DES 009CD

2004 release. Phonique presents his debut full-length on Dessous Recordings. Sometimes warm and melodic, sometimes rough and static, sometimes experimental and old-school, but always something special for your mind, this album presents 15 brand new tracks featuring collaborations with Alexander East, Dixon, Erlend Øye, Ian James Whitelaw, and Paris The Black Fu. Identification is an exciting journey through Phonique's different preferences for electronic music in general, not being focused to only one style of this quite versatile genre. This makes this full-length a full-time adventure in the jungle of deep house, tech-house, minimal house, disco and downbeat.

2007 release. "Casualities" is the first full single taken from Phonique's brilliant second album Good Idea. With the distinctive vocals by Erlend Øye (Kings Of Convenience, Whitest Boy Alive) "Casualities" is one of the strongest tracks on the album and an obvious choice. The song is a wonderfully fleet-footed nu-disco tune with a funky bassloop that lets the sun shine a wee bit brighter. For the remix there could have been no better choice than Morgan Geist, who is one half of the famous Metro Area.

2007 release. After some excursions on Renaissance, Systematic, Souvenir, Simple and Fine, Phonique is back home on Dessous with his single John. "John" is a great classic and deep house tune with nice chords and a cool build-up which makes the track perfect for the dancefloor as well. Sole Channel's finest Mr. V. aka Victor Font adds a fantastic remix. He tweaked the original with a bit more punch to the beat and added a spaced out keyboard solo.

2005 release. Another highlight release by Phonique. "Lizard" is based on a sharp lambent sound and a funky Phonique-style bassline joined by a hypnotizing keyboard-expanse and nice melodies. "Hermes" on the flip is a little more minimal and straighter, with impulsive, accented chords and sharp hi-hats pushing the track forward. A modern cutting edge house-track! "The Good Track" perfectly rounds up the EP with fluffily grooving percussions, fleet-footed keys and soulful vocal-snippets.

DES 085EP
|
2009 release. Phonique returns with an EP of three typically genre-bending tracks, exploring the many sides of this highly regarded producer's fruitful repertoire. Lead track "The Pump" is a vivacious number that takes a clean, modern house aesthetic as a base and infuses it with a dirtier, early morning vibe. "Bike Ride" is a playful journey into the kooky electronic world of Phonique's studio outings, with solid drums and warm sub bass providing the energy for all manner of pops and tweaks. "Tooltime" completes the package and breaks out the big guns for some serious heads-down dancefloor ignition. Urgent and tight late night action, not for the faint of heart.
