Belgian musician Dijf Sanders pens and produces soundtracks for distant, far-flung places that brood with exotica, psychedelia, jazz, and electronica. His new album Java is a psychedelic and modern search for the sounds of the homonymous Indonesian island. Armed with a set of field recorders, Dijf traveled to every urban and rural corner of Indonesia in the spring of 2017. As a contemporary incarnation of ethnomusicologist Alan Lomax, he collected an impressive repertory of recordings, commissioned by the Europalia Arts Festival and KAAP Creative Compass. "Kacapi", "Kendang", "Angklung", "Calung", or "Gamelan" are not the names of indigenous tropical diseases by the way, but those of local instruments that Dijf encountered on his adventurous musical quest. For two weeks the American expert ethnographer Palmer Keen stood by Dijf through his total immersion into the island's colorful culture and rich, ceremonial traditions. On his return to Belgium, Dijf headed straight back into the studio with the gathered material and invited some of his musical soulmates to put the icing on the cake. It is no coincidence that the three guests -- Nathan Daems, Filip Vandebril, and Simon Segers -- are all part of Black Flower, a band that famously flirts with oriental sounds. From hours and hours of field recordings, Dijf distilled ten psychedelic pieces which ride on waves of ecstasy and trance, and bridge the gap between two worlds. Tribal rhythms and warm melodies are fused to a seamless and beautiful musical work in utopia. The Brugge-born, Gentbrugge-based musician is one of those great Flemish talents. In the past, he earned his stripes with Teddiedrum and The Violent Husbands and has produced bands like Kenji Minogue and Blackie & The Oohoos. He has also released music under his own name including the critically acclaimed album Moonlit Planetarium (2016). Welcome to Dijf Sanders's wonderful journey into future exotica. Comes with printed inner sleeve; Includes download card.

"Dijf Sanders who released the critical acclaimed album (To Be a Bob) gets a remix treatment by Kettel and Marco Bernardi. Kettel did deliver an a suberb remix of Swamp Boulevard which can easily compete with any Plaid remix -- this is all about beauty and pushing the right buttons. On the flip side Marco Bernardi made his smooth dancefloor mix. Hi-tech and soulful in a kind of Basic Channel meets Derrick May meets Autechre style. Marco Bernardi also delivered his trade mark Frustrated Funk electro mix. Hi-tech cut-up vocals and beats which slowly morphs in fucked up, but rocking electro beat. He processed the vocals in such way that it sounds like if Dijf Sanders has been locked in a washing machine with a mic."

"We are proud to present this beautiful album of this young talented classically trained musician from Antwerp, Belgium. Dijf sings, plays the guitar, and programs the electronica, Jon Birdsong (the former trumpetist of Beck!!) plays trumpet and stand up bass (contrabass) is played by Benjamin Dousselaere. For those who already know Dijf know that he is a guy who can't be pigeonholed very easily. And also this new album To Be a Bob is very versatile. From moody jazzy tracks to crazy electronic stuff which goes along with Squarepusher releases, to sing-song electronica. One of the main tracks is the poppy jazzy electronica track 'Swamp Boulevard' which also was on the limited EP release.... But don't underestimate the maybe less obvious beauties such as 'For Your Ass Only' and the atmospheric 'Etheric Landmarch.' There are enough tracks on this album that will grow on you every time you play this album."

"Swamp Boulevard is a 5 track EP with a versatile selection of his forthcoming album. Main track is the sweet 'Swamp Boulevard.' Dijf Sanders is probably the very first singer and songwriter who does it fully electronical. The title track is a jazzy pop track where Dijf sings in his typical way... one of those tracks that makes you happy to be happy. Dijf sings, plays the guitar, and programs the electronica, Jon Birdsong (the former trumpetist of Beck) plays trumpet like there never has been a Miles Davis and contrabass is played by Benjamin Dousselaere. The flip side is even more versatile and more electronical (as you are probably used to with the releases on DUB). 'Cheerleader Memorial' is basically too beautiful to be real. Stunning melodies and jazzy electronica beats with another trade mark of Dijf...his very strange sounding guitar. Then we have 'For Your Ass Only' which is kind of a love song, a tribute to a beautiful girl... makes you feel like being in love again. And last track is the very jazzy 'Jizz.' A track that sounds like it has been recorded somewhere in the '50s in a dark obscure jazz club in France."

"Dijf Sanders is a young classic trained musician from Antwerp Belgium. He is living in his small apartment with his 2 cats and his piano and a little home studio. Somehow he never has been connected or influenced by any musical scene or direction and has been the kind of musician you hardly meet these days... Not following any hype or technological trend. Not following other musicians (he has no contemporary artists like Autechre, Aphex twin, Savath & Savalis in his record collection). Not having an internet connection at home, never goes to clubs. But to be honest we think he very well might create a small hype around his debut album Mating Season. Dijf perfectly blended his classical training with his homestudio and came with a completely own and original tracks. His calm way of living shines thru in this record which brings very sweet, emotional and almost innocent music. Don't expect Hi-tech Autechre or EOG kind of programming, don't expect craziness like Aphex Twin and Otto von Schirach or pseudo intellectual white kids hip hop or moody indie-tronix like Tortoise...but do expect the debut of Dijf Sanders. Probably some bits and pieces from each of the above mentioned artists...but then the Dijf way. It seems that he is just a very talented musician who has been producing tracks as expression for his emotions and moods during every day live. For years and years he has been making tracks and it seems that now is the moment that he finally is happy enough with the results."
