CHUTE 600CD

A beautifully presented clamshell box set, featuring 42 tracks over three CDs in card sleeves and a 36-page booklet featuring photographs and full details from the sessions. Containing three John Peel Sessions, two Marc Riley Sessions, and numerous Radio Scotland Sessions, it would be rude not to mention and include the track the band did for Aled Jones on BBC Radio 2. The only band to do sessions for both Peel and Jones. Two tracks have never been "aired" before, including a jingle for Peel. The sessions were recorded at BBC Studios in Maida Vale, Salford BBC Glasgow and includes a live on-air set from the original 13th Note, Glasgow. The artwork is based on the original BBC Study Series from the 1960s, while the art of the CD labels is based on BBC Sound Effect 7" singles. This box has been fully authorized and signed off by the BBC and is licensed to the band's main man, Jan Burnett of Chute Records. All 42 tracks have been sourced and mastered specifically for this release.

Sounds is the CD version of Spare Snare's (nearly) sold out earlier release on vinyl (CHUTE 501E-LP, 2018). Spare Snare combine Joy Division's intensity -- especially with, despite his heavy accent, Jan Burnett's blunt, Ian Curtis-like delivery -- and a likeable C86 (1986) amateurism. They deserve more than Scotland's best kept secret status. A short introduction for the uninitiated: Spare Snare hail from Dundee, Scotland, and released their first 7" in 1992. Their twelve albums have all been released or licensed on their own Chute Records over the past 25 years.

Spare Snare, from Dundee, Scotland, celebrated 25 years of releasing records by asking Steve Albini if he would be up for co-hosting a Scottish Engineers' Workshop with the band, and recording Spare Snare for the rest of that week. A resounding "YES" was returned and funding was secured from Creative Scotland to host the workshop and record the album. The band chose to record ten classic Snare tracks from the catalog that have evolved with playing live, or tracks that would suit Albini's sound. These Albini recordings have become one of the highlights for the band, sitting nicely next to their four John Peel sessions. Mastered and cut with the word "audiophile" in mind: Recorded on two-inch tape, and mixed on to half-inch tape by Albini, the album was then mastered and cut by mastering legend Pete Norman. Pressed at Optimal in Germany. Brown reverse card sleeve; Includes one color print. 180 gram vinyl; Includes download code.
