As audacious as the sleeve it comes housed in, the UK's most eccentric audio malefactor returns with his eighth studio album, Practical Electronics with Thighpaulsandra. Unique in the Thighpaulsandra oeuvre, this one eschews the usual group-based recordings, consisting of electronics and vocals only. Hovering between haunted narratives and extended instrumental sequences, Practical Electronics is an eccentric excursion into playful pop and fearless electronic experimentation. Simultaneously intimidating and accessible, the energy of this untamed mind unleashes an artifact where high art unfolds as an oblique electronic cabaret. Having cut his teeth amongst such legendary outfits such as Coil and Spiritualized, Thighpaulsandra has constantly catapulted himself further and further into a musical landscape utterly of his own devising. Practical Electronics is the latest exemplary installment of a voice that is uncompromising as it is outlandish. Cover design by Liam Thonas; Photography by Siôn Oegon. Recorded and mixed by Thighpaulsandra at Aeriel Studios, Brechfa between 2017 and 2018. Mastered by Matt Colton at Alchemy Mastering, London.

"Born in Pontypridd, South Wales to a musical family, Thighpaulsandra developed an interest in modern classical and electronic music at an early age. Whilst still in school he formed an avant-garde rock group incorporating influences from his admiration for experimental music pioneers John Cage and Karlheinz Stockhausen. Through experiments with his group The Rachel Dennis Sisters he was offered a job in a local recording studio which eventually led to him becoming the manager and house engineer. One of his many clients was former The Teardrop Explodes frontman Julian Cope who, after learning of their mutual appreciation of krautrock and electronics, invited him to join his current group as keyboard player. During Thighpaulsandra's tenure with Cope he garnered the attention of Coil's John Balance. After an introduction via his management, the two became great friends and Thighp was asked to join Coil shortly after. Thighp has also released several solo albums, some of which shift between experimental and rock, others, like The Lepore Extrusion, are drone albums. Originally released through Brainwashed, this album was very hard to find outside the US and soon deleted. For this re-issue, Thighpaulsandra has added a bonus track that wasn't featured on the original release."

Thighpaulsandra presents his seventh full-length album and his first since 2006's The Lepore Extrusion. Well over a decade in the making, The Golden Communion is his debut for Editions Mego. It comprises ten songs and runs well over two hours, with individual pieces clocking in between four and 28 minutes. Featured musicians on the album include regular collaborators Martin Schellard and Siôn Orgon, plus the odd guest/ghost from bands with which Thighpaulsandra has worked in the past. Listeners who have heard any of Thighpaulsandra's previous albums will know that it's best to approach this work with no fixed set of expectations; once again, Thighpaulsandra changes genres and defies easy classification, sometimes more than once within one song. Drawing on his long-time background as a key member in such diverse groups as Coil, Spiritualized, and Julian Cope's band (in each case arguably at the height of the group's creative prowess) and his work as producer and sound engineer for an even larger variety of customers, he offers classical passages next to hard rock riffing; krauty experimental work-outs turning into super-catchy, almost radio-friendly songs; and more. Many adjectives have been used to describe Thighpaulsandra's work -- "epic," "challenging," "timeless," "idiosyncratic" -- but certainly never "predictable" or "boring." Possibly his most rewarding album yet and a welcome and unusual entry in the Mego catalog, The Golden Communion will entertain and astonish listeners who are fond of having their minds severely altered by sound.

"This CD was initially sold at the Royal Festival Hall event with Coil, and is now being made available to the general public. Some Head consists of two pieces of music: 'Black Nurse' and 'Tudor Fruits'. Full time Coil member Thighpaulsandra takes care of synthesizers, piano, horn, vocals, and is joined by Coil's John Balance on vocals/text and Hans Jurgen Rausch takes care of enforcement/retractors. The CD is housed in a sheer black C-shell package and comes with a sticker on the front. Thighpaulsandra also plays keyboards for Spiritualized and Julian Cope."
