This release from Yassin Legali aka Yaya takes a unique, upbeat approach to 4/4 beats: combining Benin influences -- samples from dialogue and traditional ballads -- with Balearic and tech house, plus the occasional Commodore 64 high-score melody. Influenced by the rhythm and structure of his musical heritage (Yaya's father was a lead vocalist/percussionist for M'Bamina, a band of musicians from Benin, Zaire, Italy and Cameroon), Yaya grew up as a percussionist, eventually DJing funk, soul, Afrobeat, house and garage.
