2012 release. Dos Cafundos were founded 2002 in Rio de Janeiro. A dastardly loving concoction of Frank Zappa, John Zorn and Mr Bungle processed through a Burroughs-esque descent into musical madness. A post neo funk, prog-jazz, samba punk hybrid known as Dos Cafundós. Often frenetic, ever evolving, morphing through time signatures, moods and intensity Capitão Coração, the band's first full length release, represents a broadening of Far Out Recordings's sonic offerings showcasing the musical craftsmanship and diversity of Rio. Ten years percolating, distilling and honing a musical identity firmly rooted in the canon of sonic experimentation and hybridization, this album is far more than a mere collage of disparate genres competing for the listener's attention. Instead, a procession of musical movements flowing through the raw energy of ska and punk, the ferocious musicality of jazz and fusion, the cultural traditions of samba and folk, the rhythmic underpinnings of funk and metal culminates in a listening experience akin to a psychedelic opera of Brazilian proportions, a beating heart tale of the manic circadian rhythms of life. Previous dalliances down experimental avenues like Binario's funk-rock amalgam have showcased a label willing to extend beyond the boundaries of what is commonly conceived as the Far Out Recordings sound. Though often looking back over fifty years of the country's musical history, in modernity Brazil presents a diversity of musical offerings on par with that found in Capitão Coração. Produced together with Tomas Alem (son of Jamie Alem) at the legendary Musika Studios, where the label's own legacy started some 18 years ago, and mastered by Grammy award-winning Bob Katz at Digital Domain, Far Out Recordings is as pleased as Punch to unleash Dos Cafundos on the world. Dos Cafundos are: Leonardo Musse - bass, vocals and percussion; Pedro Dias Carneiro - guitar, vocals, flute and percussion; Conrado Kempers - guitar, violin, vocals and percussion; Uirá Bueno - drums, vocals and percussion.
