Jimmy James and the Vagabonds, live in session, London, 1966-1969. In the burgeoning soul and R&B scene of London in the mid-1960s, the likes of Geno Washington and his Ram Jam Band and The Foundations were emerging as its voice for swathes of eager young modernists. At the same time, American-born singer Jimmy James travelled to London with The Vagabonds, an all-Jamaican line-up that would ooze authenticity and style. An early affinity with The Who's Peter Meaden gave them cool prestige, but it was the instinctive Pye label that would once again take the opportunity to capture the raw energy of a homegrown soul/R&B act. Jimmy James and The Vagabonds recorded numerous sessions at the request of Brian Matthew and remain one of Britain's best-loved soul bands of the 1960s. London Calling presents Jimmy James and the Vagabonds, live in session for broadcast by the BBC, from London 1966-1969. Revealing ultimately rare and exclusive recordings as well as insightful interviews with band members at the time, this collection makes for a compelling addition for fans and collectors of the 1960s British music scene. Professionally re-mastered original broadcast recordings with background liners and period photos. Full-color booklet with background liners and rare images, includes interviews. Digitally remastered for greatly enhanced sound quality.
