Julian Jeweil's profile as a contemporary techno titan continues to grow on Plus 8. This EP opens with the titular track, "Bastard," a rolling, cyclical techno groove with slapping drums and a dark, heavily filtered vocal loop. "Hey You" has just as firm and rubbery a bottom-end, but here, the iron-like synths bring a little funk. On "The Gang," Jeweil lays down a restless, paranoid arrangement that sounds infected by alien spaceships. Closing out is "Zoulou," another steely techno stomper.
