"Following the spectacular first release from the brand new Ranking Records label, RAN002 is set to be another highly popular dance floor destroyer. The A-side, 'Captain Hawkeye' by Ruckspin, Quark, Planas & Quantum Soul, exceeds all expectations of modern dubstep production: grinding synths underlay a soaring, unforgettable melodica line, and references to old school Tubby-style dub lend the tune an ethereal, euphoric vibe. As 'Captain Hawkeye' progresses, the synth work becomes increasingly detailed, eventually climaxing with a tear-out second drop. The texture of 'Captain Hawkeye' is bolstered with live instruments played by members of the Ranking crew (viola, violin, trumpet and vocals). With its mesmerizing bass fluctuation, 'Anger' by Ruckspin, Quark & Planas, on the AA-side summons an industrial, heavyweight soundscape. Relentless, metallic drum hits contrast with heavily delayed live instruments and vocals, and deliberate synthesizer oscillations that growl underneath the samples make this a seething system-wrecker of a release."
