EVRE 007EP
|
Three tracks from the early '90s -- techno, ethno, and smoked-out trippiness. Pilgrims of the Mind formed part of a small but dedicated and burgeoning group of Vancouver electronic music producers in the early '90s. On this EP, "Subtropique" finally gets the bass and level back as originally intended. "Chase" was the first POTM track ever released, but only now does this down-tempo gem finds itself on vinyl. And "Digital 4A Groove", a track whose spoken word snippet was taken from a recorded phone message left on the producer's answering machine in 1993, also gets remastered from the original tapes.

Echovolt Records present the work of the first Greek producer on their growing "reissue" catalog offering two ultra-rare recordings that lived on the shelf for exactly two decades. The then 16-year old Starcount recorded these two stripped-down cuts straight to DAT tape in his bedroom studio in Athens during the late '90s between cutting classes and sailing in the Aegean Sea. Despite his young age, both "Calma" and "Jeraldine" showcase top-notch production skills with solid arrangements featuring the typical vocal samples of the period underlined by hypnotic melodies, jazzy chords, and a densely populated pallet of drum hits.

Next stop for Echovolt Records' regular catalog is two tear-jerker workouts by this great Polish duo. Earth Trax & Newborn Jr. started their collaboration in 2016 with a release on Rhythm Section from Peckham, London. Their new offering follows the same principles -- ecstatic and slightly nostalgic. A side ("Bailando") utilizes famous solid/lately bass sound with a modern twist and features additional work by Annjet who layered lush pads on top of it. B side ("Aquamarine") is a hypnotic up-tempo workout with sparkling keys, sizzling hi-hats, and a powerful bass line.
