"Islands and Islets is a Berlin-based record label which runs as a daughter imprint to dance-oriented Stockholm LTD, founded by Pär Grindvik. With remixes on pop artists like Lykke Li and Shout Out Louds, Van Rivers produced the first solo album from Karin Dreijer Andersson from The Knife. After a mere 6 months of existence, Islands and Islets is now celebrating with Van Rivers' third release on the label. 'There wasn't just one big inspiration source for these songs, more an idea of a specific sound that I wanted to create,' Van Rivers explains. 'After hours and hours of studio time, playing around with instruments in ways which they might not be meant to be used. I found a way to get my idea out. This release is a pretty good picture of it. And thanks to The Subliminal Kid for coming up with the brilliant idea of throwing all the tambourines we could find into the piano.' His release Easy Street got great response and was charted and played by names like Josh Wink, John Selway and Laurent Garnier. If you're not one of the lucky ones who already discovered Van Rivers' great creations, this moment will be a great one for you. And for all of you others that have been waiting. Here is Pipes & Drums!"

"I can't see the sea for the trees in me. I know there are oceans and islands to discover. A figurehead formed and created out of salt and empty waters. A ship without name or sails, a crew without a responsible leader. Crew members that count stars and fight foreign waves to survive. There was once a destination, there was once a meaning. Then the waves took the glory of our crusade and turned our pride into innocent abashment. There he is! This youthful one, without sorrows or weather-beaten scars. He is now meant to be our leader and guide us back from far, far away. Figurehead EP is fiction created out of real life. A first-time collaboration between The Subliminal Kid and his crewmember Malcolm Pardon. This release takes turns from deep house waters to peak time highs! It makes any listener happy to be alive!"

"Step into the alley, into the groove. Into the urban breeze and family hospitality of Easy Street! Without using too many sounds or rhythms in the main track 'Ad Hoc,' Van Rivers creates a warm, full sound spectrum, with a variety of angles. As daytime turns into nighttime, this urban story continues. 'Slow Sails' is basically a tool that keeps on building from start to end, with focus on a wave-sounding reverb. And as twilight enters, 'Dusty Leaves' turns this street scene upside-down with its walking rhythm and spooky sounds. We are the spectators of an act in the vein of Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' epic. Van Rivers really shows the variety of his sound from beginning to end! A powerful record for the floor that plays as well at home too."

"We continue our introduction of new founded Islands and Islets, sub-label to Stockholm LTD. With releases on labels like Perspex, Still Music and Raw Fusion, The Subliminal Kid has already has a high reputation in the scene. The great feedback on his music is not only a matter of the club DJs. Gilles Peterson on his BBC Radio 1 show has called 'Chord Song' on Still Music 'His kind of music.' On 'Dancefloor Heat,' The Subliminal Kid invites his studio colleagues Van Rivers and Markus Enochson for a live dub and mix session. All versions of this song carry the same feeling of true analog recording and on-the-fly arrangement. They also work as perfect bridges between house and techno."
