Closer to Home is the debut solo album from former Kittiwakes lead singer Kate Denny. Despite receiving wide acclaim for their impressive folk-concept album, Lofoten Calling, The Kittiwakes split during the writing of the follow-up. Never one to rest on her laurels, Denny took her share of the new material and expanded it into this very personal collection of songs, collaborating chiefly with guitar/fiddle player, Charlie Skelton. The result is a highly literate album of original songs in the traditional style which can only be described as exquisite modern folk music. Both Denny and Skelton are prominent figures in the burgeoning folk scene of Leigh-on-Sea in Essex, and both have collaborated with Leigh-based psych-folk collective, The Owl Service. 2012 has already seen Kate playing high profile shows with the likes of Spiers & Boden and Jim Moray in her native West Midlands, and she is set to continue playing folk clubs and arts centers the length and breadth of the UK in support of Closer to Home. For fans of The Unthanks, Fay Hield, Jackie Oats and The Owl Service.
