Saxophonist Yann Jankielewicz, Tony Allen's last musical director, presents Keep It Simple, his first solo album. A cross between New-York jazz and rock-leaning Afrobeat. He is accompanied by two iconic musicians from the New York scene. Jason Lindner is on keyboards (David Bowie, Meshell, Avishai Cohen), and possesses the ability to find new, powerful sounds, with direct, unadorned playing. Josh Dion is on drums (John Scofield, Randy Brecker), and plays synth bass with his right hand, which forces him to remain simple. After recording, Yann continued to dig deeper, adding saxophones, keyboards and percussion. Keeping it simple? This was Yann's mission throughout the creation of this record, from writing to production to improvised parts. Keeping it simple to create the unexpected, structural surprise and authenticity. Recorded and produced by Ben Rubin in New York and Paris, and mixed by multi-award-winning producer Tchad Blake (The Black Keys, Al Green, Tom Waits, The Bad Plus).
