A Tonic For The Troops have, after extensive touring, established themselves as a tight collective with high octane performances providing enjoyable and accessible jazz. After several "top of the year" lists for their debut album Ambush, ATFTT are joining forces again for their second album! The ingredients still consist of straight-ahead post-bop with a modern and contemporary sound, but Realm of Opportunities also opens up a more lyrical and emotional approach. Ellen Brekken has established herself as one of the most versatile bass players in Norway today. In A Tonic For The Troops we can see her evolution as a composer as well, with a firm grasp of melody and development, demonstrated in cinematic and suite-like tunes. The band utilizes the strengths of some of the most energetic performers on the Norwegian jazz scene today, leading successful bands in their own right. Espen Berg (piano), Magnus Bakken (sax) and Magnus Sefaniassen Eide (drums) all bring great solo contributions too, but the band´s real secret weapons are both their playful interaction and also their openness to using a melting-pot of musical ideas. A Tonic For The Troops demonstrate once again with Realm of Opportunities that their energy and motivation are at their peak, showcasing a life-affirming band in top shape!

André Roligheten is known for his strong presence in a number of collaborations with everything from Gard Nilssen's Acoustic Unity, Team Hegdal, Friends & Neighbors, Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, Susanne Sundfør, to his own release Roligheten - Homegrown from 2017. With his new adventurous ensemble, he is now releasing brand new music on the album Marbles. The album contains a collection of compositions that facilitate bold interaction. The compositions are conceived as parallel universes with their own, improvised musical forms. Imagine that Sonny Rollins and Egberto Gismonti met on the beach at a yoga retreat in Hawaii and decided to make an album together! Roligheten brings out a highly personal expression in his warm tenor saxophone together with a star team of Scandinavian musicians. Each and every one of them adds a unique depth and substance to the musical universe; Strøm's rigorous double bass, Ståhl's bold vibraphone, Nilssen's elastic drums and Lindström's gripping pedal steel. This merges into a unique sound that carries Roligheten's compositions on a golden stool. The gallery of people in this ensemble has prestigious names, and they have worked with artists and bands such as Tonbruket, Bushman's Revenge, Ane Brun, Paal Nilssen-Love, Bobo Stenson, Supersonic Orchestra, and Georg Riedel.

LP version. Plastic Wave comes as the sequel to 2018's celebrated Happy Endlings, where Ole Morten Vågan, one of the most sought-after bass players in Norway, collaborated with the unpredictable and creative Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, comprised of a sort of "who's who" in Norwegian jazz. Where Happy Endlings took the listener on a 72-minute-long ride on the edge of their seat through a myriad of innovation, chock, and surprises, Plastic Wave sees TJO and Vågan take their mischievous end time antics from the previous album to the next phase, in some sorts a musical excavation of the next evolutionary step -- and the sequel is no less than 12 minutes longer. Titles such as "Food Chain Reaction" and "Critical Mass Distraction" are given extra momentum by Flu Hartberg's cover art, again a trusty companion for the music. Having been recorded halfway through 2020, the music on Plastic Wave plays well against this unprecedented backdrop, the music on Plastic Wave plays well against this unprecedented backdrop, and elements like a sudden cameo by poet Frode Grytten places the music even further into the context of our time.

LP version. The Source -- nearly 30 years in the tradition of the infinite peculiar. The Source is a quartet with a long history. Actually, started in 1993, with the founding members Ingebrigt Håker Flaten (bass), Per Oddvar Johansen, Trygve Seim, and Øyvind Brække, who all by then studied at the Jazz Course at the Trondheim Music Conservatory. The new quartet album ... But Swinging Doesn't Bend Them Down will be published on the legendary record label Odin Records. The title is an excerpt from the poem "Birches" by the American poet Robert Frost, a title that encompass a child's dream of climbing the treetops and swinging birch branches. It could be read as a reflection over the conflict between the free play in nature and the boundaries of adult life awaiting on the ground... But maybe the ground can wait? Just join the sheer joy of climbing the trees and the careful balance that is needed not to fall and be at one with the flexibility of nature. After several season-related albums, like The Source: of Christmas (1995) and The Source: of Summer (2013), it is now a pure quartet display out in the tube, only based on original music. The pieces are all signed by the quartet members and covers a vast register; raga, shuffle, swing, lyrical spots, improv and even a rough trombone/drum outing, and more. The Source: Øyvind Brække (trombone), Trygve Seim, (saxophone), Per Oddvar Johansen (drummer), Mats Eilertsen (bass).

One of Norway's most influential bassists the last 30 years, Ingebrigt Håker Flaten celebrates 50 years on Earth, releasing his most personal album so far. You can imagine the journey of Ingebrigt Håker Flaten, bass player and composer, as an odyssey in a Viking ship of classic "knar" construction, with its long range, high speed, and strong seaworthiness in a storm. His story can also be told purely in music, as he does in the commissioned work (Exit) Knarr. The piece is divided into six destinations along the route -- a tribute to the people, music and places that have shaped him. (Exit) Knarr was commissioned by Vossajazz and the premiere was set to March 2020, but of course the pandemic has postponed the premiere twice. On the third try it is finally going to happen, Sunday September 26th. Not only is there going to be a concert, this will also be the first time the commissioned work by Vossajazz is recorded before the premiere.
The award-winning Norwegian bassist, improviser, composer, and bandleader Ingebrigt Håker Flaten has been at the forefront of modern creative music both in his native country Norway and internationally since the early 1990s. Perhaps best known as a founding member of the Scandinavian super group Atomic, Håker Flaten has merged post-free jazz explorations and experimentation with skillful use of attributes from many other idioms in countless collaborations, bands and projects.
