Scotland's Gav Hislop has long been on electronic music's radar, with performances and releases as Babyshaker. A superior professional sound designer, he has shifted gears to an expert display of controlled demolition in drum n' bass and beyond under the name Blockdata. Releasing on Triple G Recordings, Sonicterror, and Abstrakt Reflections previously, this is the first solo vinyl release of the project. Scientific precision sound design and creatively rolling rhythms construct the EP. "Tertiary", "Exas", and "Control Pattern" all steer clearly onto the drum n bass dancefloor, with hyperactive synthesizer work and intricate change-ups framing each piece. The EP ending "Siren" is the jewel of the EP, a 100 BPM piece of melancholia that stays in the memory, as long as its own extended midranges stretch to the furthest reaches of infinity.

Mathlovsky's Yassssin is a celebration of ten years of his musical journey, reflecting the friendships and relationships during this time period. The cuts on the LP display a wide spectrum of versatility and track the entire cartography of his artistic creativity and collaborative spirit. However, Yassssin as an album is not so much a collection of wild mood swings, as it is a threading of the needle wound through the joining points of Mathlovsky's musical history -- then amplified with the sounds of live drums and electric guitar to make something completely new. Joined for the album by live drummer Gregory Simons, Mathlovsky also employs the vocal talents of Jason & Rhonda, Thibaud Meiresone, Amazumi, Mixmeister Michelle, Mathieu Joyeux, BRENNT, and absolutely shreds on guitar himself on several of the tracks. Speaking toward the number of fellow artists he has invited to play on the record, and the themes on the record, Mathieu elucidates: "The best way to collaborate is to give an artist full artistic freedom to write and record what they want. So I can feel their essence and creativity. I can then mash up it at my will to let it fit into my chosen path. This album is about friendship and relationships in all its forms. How we interact at raves and shows, all being each other's family at that right musical moment, feeling the love of your life supporting you, being disappointed by lifelong friends and even being backstabbed by people you once thought to be family." Created for ravers and moshers alike, Mathlovsky skillfully serves track after track of this unique hybridization -- formulating a upgraded musical experience. The arc of the album goes from pure punk to heavy and danceable to pure funk to the absolutely drowning ending of "Life Is Suffering, And I Suffer Good", illustrating the comparable energies of in-your-face vocals, Distorted 909 kicks, heavy electric guitar, and thundering live drums. Kool Keith is the most legendary trailblazer of hip-hop music. With characters spanning from Dr. Octagon to Tashan Dorsett to Black Elvis to Dr. Dooom, Keith is always delivering realness, spectacles in word and sound, and creating new worlds with his many auras. Scorn is the electronic beat project of acclaimed ex-Napalm Death drummer Mick Harris, the dark lord of ambient dub. Mick Harris's prolific ventures across numerous projects include Painkiller (with John Zorn and Bill Laswell), Quoit, Lull, Monrella, and many more. Submerged is the "King of Underground Drum n Bass DJs", having pioneered the scene for the hard sound from Astana to São Paulo to Kiev to Brooklyn. He is the founder of the galactic enterprise that is Ohm Resistance. "Distortion" is a collaborative single with some of the 100% certified dopest Kool Keith verses. He is tuned into his co-authors, dropping lines about "Power sources, Mediterranean bosses", going "52 states, European, Worldwide", discussing "more power to explore", and knowing how to "stick my hand out the speaker and reach y'all". A massive energy liftoff occurs as Keith joins his multiverse with that of the Ohm Resistance artists. Mick Harris's instantly recognizable bludgeoning beat carries the weight, as he trades off bass blast duties with the organic overdriven bassline of Submerged. A warning shot fired in advance of Scorn's album, The Only Place, this single adds the missing element to Scorn that brings out the richness and flavor of Mick Harris behind the mixing desk. "I'm so happy to be working with a great voice -- I could do more of, it adds another dynamic to Scorn." says Harris. Submerged explains his usual streak of unusual luck "I had a bassline I had written and wanted to send to Mick Harris for Scorn. When the opportunity came to work with Kool Keith, Mick made his beat, and my riff fit exactly -- so we coordinated the forces to put this record together." With Kool Keith being one of the most-named influences by many of the Ohm Resistance artists, his arrival to the label couldn't have come at a better time -- a integrated circuit across four dimensions, connecting three legendary musicians around the globe.

It took almost 20 years for O C O S I to get together again, since they parted their ways in the early 2000s. The duo of Paul M. and Simon S., formed in London in the heyday of rave, creates downtempo, atmospheric bass-fueled beats, in a drugged-out '90s haze reminiscent of Boards of Canada, or early Autechre, but with a darker bent. The evolution of O C O S I, from its time in the days where producers traded DATs and Minidiscs frequently, is explained by Simon: "Back then, everything was done in one room in London on an Ensoniq ASRX sampler and now it's done long-distance in between Ibiza (where Paul resides) and Newcastle Upon Tyne -- where I do". Notably, with all the years passed, distance between and personal changes, the principle of their work remained the same. "Simon and myself began bouncing sounds back and forth. Both knowing the O C O S I blueprint, the album came together quite naturally, and fast," stresses Paul. "The result was familiar, but also a move towards new sonic territories." Combining slow beats, bass and avid usage of space to create the atmosphere, O C O S I has made a massive step forward with it, while remaining true to themselves. As Simon says: "We started talking again. About the sounds, their abstract nature, films, putting them together. But also, remembering what meaning has O C O S I for us." Dadub is a project synonymous with the deepest rhythms from the interior of the human psyche. Low-end mysticism. Tribalist periodic audio patterns. The Berlin-based Italian producers behind the project, now constructed of sonic warlock Daniele Antezza and performance artist Marco Donnarumma, supply an unmistakably unique vision of post-apocalyptic dub landscapes. Past, present, and future blend into one, backed by the supremely sublime bass of creators who are light years ahead in their field. A Sun Called Moon is a superior first representation on Ohm Resistance, detailing their ongoing mission of creating bass-present music, regardless of dancefloor conformity. "The Time You Killed" opens as a psycho-acoustic audio film, depicting the unknown world from which the EP emanates. "I Would Gladly Die" introduces the first heavy rhythmic patterns, completely alien to identified structures, while unmistakably pushing a groove that entrances hypnotically. "Past Times, Present Ruins" lowers the tempo and continues extrapolating into new rhythmic territory -- or is it ancient? "It Was Too Soon" follows with beat-driven hednod, as influences from Scorn to Autechre are subsumed into the universal language that comprises Dadub. Feeling both familiar and foreign, both modern and eternal, Dadub's first appearance on Ohm Resistance is a fascinating drama played out in four acts. Spliff recommended -- subwoofer required.

2020 repress. Double LP version. The first album from Scorn since 2010's Refuse; Start Fires, Cafe Mor is Mick Harris in his happy place. Which just happens to be in studio, demolishing all standards and rules for electronic bass music, and embodying the darkest, deepest sound in dub. Cafe Mor takes risks outside of the conventional Scorn apparatus, and with these risks come substantial rewards. The album is comprised of powerful dub excursions, from the deep dark dank of the front two tracks "Elephant" and "The Lower The Middle Our Bit", and gaining steam towards the ultraviolence of "Mugwump Tea Room" to "Never Let It Be Said" to the crushing death kick of "Who Are They Which One". A quick drive under the lights with a lasered out snare on "Dulce", then you come across the appearance from Sleaford Mods front man, Jason Williamson, on the standout track on the album, "Talk Whiff". A cruise around the Midlands sighting the Broke Fridge and Tinder Surprise, with an instant classic refrain: "Talk Whiff/ I'm a busy person/ I've had enough of it," Cafe Mor culminates in the all-in-one dub affair "SA70", letting rip all the new mixer and FX techniques of Harris's most recent incarnation of Scorn.

His first salvo upon return, the Feather EP is anything but light. It is the darkest possible bass weight, a vortex of low frequency into which all light is subsumed.
