Caught in and delayed by the snarl-up of the pandemic, the long song finally sees the light of day... this vinyl album by drøne (Mike Harding and Mark Van Hoen) introduces sung voices to add character and tonality to the familiar miasma of field recordings, modular synth, static, electronics, found sounds, and "musique concrete". Recorded on various continents in the febrile atmosphere leading up to those watershed years which saw complex realignments and reassessments not only politically but also socially and economically, the long song takes you on a strange and involving journey incorporating all these elements. Anna von Hausswolff, on whose label (Pomperipossa Records) this album is released, is one of seven female voices which reassert the feminine while the male world falls apart. Nature found new space within which to express itself as the combustion engine took back stage with flights cancelled and motor traffic consigned to the garage. And fresh feminine energy also found new parameters within which to operate, both domestically or in the wider world. Nico Van Hoen is a documentary photographer studying photojournalism at University of the Arts, London. Traversing the intersectional relationship between photography, memory, and the passage of time; Nico's artistic practice attempts to explore how by photographing a memory, you are killing it and therefore solidifying its nature as a thing of the past. Focusing largely on concerns with questions about the nature of memory, the power of images, and the ways that we use photography to preserve and remember moments from our lives. Voices by Galya Bisengalieva, Ipek Gorgun, Bana Haffar, Alex Hoang, Bethan Kellough, Anna von Hausswolff, Jana Winderen. Organ played by Claire M Singer at Union Chapel Crickets, recorded by Dave the Cap, Sumida, Tokyo. Recorded, edited, and mixed by Mike Harding and Mark Van Hoen; Photography and typography by Nico Van Hoen; Layout by Philip Marshall; Mastered by Charlie Campagna; Cut by Jason @ Transition.

The fourth album by drøne, (Mark Van Hoen and Mike Harding), is the third for Anna von Hausswolff's label, Pomperipossa Records. Featuring Zachary Paul on violins, Charlie Campagna (bass and cello), and Katt Newlon on cello, the strings add lush, warm layers to a darker, edgier sound. Gabi Strong debuts on guitar and the voices of a host of vocalists, including Claire Belhassine, Celia Eydeland, Bana Haffar, Pepa Ivanova, Nour Mobarak, and Brisa Romero. With the trademark drøne sounds of static, radio voices, field recordings, modular synthesizer, and found sounds, recording chance sounds right up to the final mix to add to the dynamism and energy of the album. Scream -- it's all you can do now. Overwhelming, scatter-gun information delivery has everyone confused, bowel churningly fearful and appalled at the nature of the changing times. Humans are biologically, psychologically, and emotionally able to cope with slow evolutionary change, but struggle with revolutionary, violent distortion or mutation. This leaves people anxious and even desperate for a firmer footing. The Stilling, a phenomenon whereby the wind speed on the planet seems to be slowing down for no known scientific reason, explores this state of discomfort and perplexion. Time spins. The glass is falling... Photography and typography by Nico Van Hoen; Artwork by Philip Marshall. Mastered by Charlie Campagna. Cut by Jason at Transition.

RSD 2017 release. Disruption between then and now/memory and presence, dulcimer, psaltery, 'cellos, violas and violin embroider radio, static, stray voices, and electronics... A Perfect Blind is the second album by Drøne (Mark Van Hoen and Mike Harding) with an array of guest artists, including label supremo Anna von Hausswolff, dreamer and composer Paul Haslinger, field recordist and sound designer Charlie Campagna and Touch artists Bethan Kellough and Philip Jeck. Strings by Seattle-based Marie Takahashi and Oleg Belyaev are also layered into this complex and perhaps more musical offering. Moving in all directions, A Perfect Blind continues where Reversing Into The Future (PR 002LP, 2016) left off; A Perfect Blind was conceived and designed in Los Angeles with organ recordings from London (at Union Chapel), short wave radio, treated voices, and other archaic sound sources. A stunning front cover image by Maria von Hausswolff and miss-taken typography by Nico embrace this sense of dislocation; as the mediaeval language which enfolds our collapsing 19th century institutions fails to find relevance, our sense of entrapment in the old is accompanied by an assault on the senses. The destabilizing effect of "post-truth" adds to our sense of un-belonging, of being elsewhere, being observers not participants. A Perfect Blind is the term used for the best possible observation point where the viewer is unseen by the object of interest. Is this the best place to be? Memories which slowly fade away, also reverse back from the past shoving us into the future... Personnel: Oleg Belyaev - baroque 'cello; Charlie Campagna - 'cello; Paul Haslinger - piano; Philip Jeck - pulse; Bethan Kellough - violin, viola; Marie Takahashi - baroque viola; Anna von Hausswolff - voices.
