An impressive drone-obsessed experimental new music release, featuring a series of "Works in Sound" by composers John Latartara & Khristain Weeks: "Layers of Manipulation" (for pianos and tape manipulation), "False People" (for string quartet), "Interactions" (a mix of two concert installations), "Concentric 11 (for flute, viola, guitar and Tibetan singing bowl) and "Visceral Music" (for electric bass(es) and tape manipulation). "'Concentric 11' is the latest in an ongoing series of pieces which use repeating figures of different lengths to create a static yet dynamic music. The Tibetan bowl, which produced the pitch C5, is used as the focal point for the piece. The other instruments circle around this droning pitch with the space of a major second (above or below). The entire piece, therefore, takes place in an extremely narrow frequency space of a major third. Repetition takes place so slowly it is hard to perceive at first. This helps blur the distinction between what is new and what is the same."
