"Brooklyn duo Pearl Necklace (Bryce Hackford & Frank Lyon) share a fascination with text -- with language, sound, meaning & with forms of communication. Soft Opening is a subtle but distinct dissemination of all of that, wherein all we think we know is revealed to be, in fact, quite alien. Pearl Necklace define their SoundWorld by an open--minded approach to sampling, using source material of various fidelities -- field recordings, Library records, dusted disco cuts, etc., & live, primarily synth--based instrumentation, plus definitive use of an MPC1000 sampler. Features contributions from Smalltown alumnus, ARP."

"Let's get this out of the way 1st -- Carmen Villain used to be a very successful model. Her face has appeared on the covers of Vogue & Nylon, & high profile cosmetic ad campaigns. It turns out Carmen Hillestad (Carmen Villain) has been a spy in the house of fashion. Behind the scenes, she was channeling her frustrations into a set of songs with a defiantly DIY underground free-rock sound. Now at last, she's stepping off the glossy page & emerging as a major new songwriting voice & multi-instrumentalist. Behind the angelic face lurks a villain. With acid in her airbrush, she reminds us of This Heat, Bikini Kill, Sonic Youth, and Royal Trux."

"1st single from Carmen Villain's Sleeper (with remix by Prins Thomas on the flip). Villain draws on a lineage of sprawling, taboo-busting lo-fi rock: Sonic Youth, Royal Trux, Broadcast, Bikini Kill & The Stooges, while she equally admires the cut 'n' paste productions of J Dilla, Wu-Tang Clan & avant garde post-punkers This Heat."

"Tempest, the band's 4th album from Smalltown Supersound was recorded last year in Glasgow with JD Twitch, one half of the iconoclastic Scottish DJ duo Optimo. Tussle worked with Liquid Liquid members on the album - they sent Dennis Young rough mixes of a few tracks and he overdubbed his parts from his New Jersey studio. The first track, 'Yume No Mori' contacts a vocal sample from Sal Principato. The experimental interludes and drum solos of past releases are absent. Instead, Tempest charges forward with a deeper, more structured sprawl."

Double LP version. "The album is essentially a psycho-dramatic sequel to the highly acclaimed We Gave It All Away, Now We Are Taking It Back album from 2009, as it is musically a blend of originals and remakes made into originals, as well as solo performances and external collaborations from the band's musical core members, Knut Saevik and Paul 'Strangefruit' Nyhus. Mungodelics musically summons everything that is hazy, dazy, underearthly and crazy. Features collaborations with Jaga Jazzist, Athana, and Unni Wilhelmsen."

"In a world in which trance DJs with names like Ferry, Armin & Tiesto plead for votes in the DJ Mag Top 100, it's nice to know there are other, stranger, galaxies circling the one in which we live - namely, that of the Idjut Boys - Daniel (Tyler) & Conrad (McConnell). Where most are happy to serve up a formulaic & entirely predictable menu to keep the hordes happy, the Idjut Boys play, as Conrad once quipped, 'Whatever we can get away with.' That could include anything from '70s jock metallists Nazareth to Phil Collins interspersed with perhaps some Underground Resistance for light relief, swiftly followed by the Temptations, something which makes their DJ sets non-conformist & brilliant; sometimes floorclearing, but always interesting."

"Lindstrom remixed by (The) Todd Rundgren! This is the first remix that Todd Rundgren has ever done for another artist (at least what Rundgren nerds/experts have told us). Rundgren has been a big inspiration for Lindstrom, so this is a dream come through. Lindstrom has made an Extended Disco Version of 'Quiet Place To Live' exclusive for this 12"."

"With the latest album from dance producer Hans-Peter Lindstrom, Norway's latest entry in the space race has been launched out of the wooded outskirts of Oslo. Six Cups Of Rebel, Lindstrom's fourth solo album (his first to feature vocals), is a super-sized cosmic disco rocket that burns up a galaxy of eclectic influences in its wake, from Bach to Deep Purple, from prog rock and arpeggiator disco to acid house, while sounding sleek and utterly contemporary."

2LP version. "Mungolian Jetset presents their first album of totally original compositions. Rather than delivering another take on the epic entertainments that have become the staple of their reputation, they have now taken more scoops of melody, poptastic whimsy and lighter shades of oddness, to hybridize with their already mutated sound. The result is full of drunken synths, obscure samples of the psychedelic past, bleeping & squeaking, contemporary choirs alongside funky guitars, ethereal landscapes & chipmunked vocals, as well as guest vocals from Dominique Leone & Cartsen Loly. Tunes you can chew your bubblegum to."

"The Sagara project began life in 2009 when Diskjokke was commissioned to create a one off piece for top Norwegian festival Øya. He was given free reign as to what this project might entail, & encouraged to travel almost anywhere to find the right people to work with. He researched the Indonesian Gamelan tradition, & reached out to a group called Sambasunda (led by Ismit Rutchimat). Diskjokke then spent two weeks in Bandung, Java, staying in their studio recording traditional instruments, sounds & ideas. Written, produced and recorded in Oslo, many of the sounds on Sagara were recorded various places in Indonesia, like the crickets from the Bandung jungle, the waves of Bali, etc."

"Kokning was conceived between the release of Feil Knapp and the beginning of 2010. Through series of studio sessions of experimenting with different sounds; instruments, objects of different textures, whose sounds were played within different spaces of various acoustics. The results were then edited into basic rhythm tracks which then were overdubbed with new series of recordings in similar manner. The album it involves more organic/ acoustic sound basics and less programmed patterns than Feil Knapp. Since Feil Knapp he has been working on a number of remixes for other artists, including Sunburned Hand of the Man, Lindstrøm, Crimea X, Big Robot feat. Conrad Schnitzler etc. Also working with music and soundscapes for a stage production, as well as touring with my own band, Bjørn Torske Band. Kokning starts out beautifully. It's both melodic and melancholic with a warm, slow ambiance. Soft psychedelics and a Balearic rhythm are introduced before it fades into Torske's signature skrangle-house and then ends with what can only be described as 'Moondog disco' (imagine if Moondog and Count Ossie got together to make disco)."

"Drivan is a new band consisting of Kim Hiorthoy, Lisa Ostberg, Louise Peterhoff and Kristiina Viilala. Meeting in Stockholm in fall 2007, the band worked on a multi-faceted dance piece by choreographer and performance artist Gunilla Heilborn entitled The Potato Country. The moving yet humorous performance piece incorporated dance, spoken word and songs. Upon completion of its run in Stockholm, Hiorthoy asked Lisa, Louise, and Kristiina if they would be interested in collaborating further. In 2008-2009, the group met at the remote house/studio of Bebbe Risenfors. Most of the songs on Disko began their evolution as one of Hiorthoy's loops during this time, eventually being built upon by the collaborators. Drivan is a group first and foremost, with everyone cooperating on lyrics and melodies, and although there are flourishes of Hiorthoy's signature sound, the recordings' folk-oriented and organic feel has the band drawing more from Swedish folk and prog of the '70s, as well as Stina Nordenstam's People Are Strange album."

"K-X-P is a drums, bass and synth trio from Helsinki, Finland, born out of the fire and ashes of the seminal Op:l Bastards and The Lefthanded, both of which were led by Timo Kaukolampi. The band is comprised of Timo Kaukolampi (electronics, vocals), Tuomo Puranen (bass and keyboards) and rotating drummers Anssi Nykänen and Tomi Leppanen. The band mixes electronics, Krautrock, noise, and even rockabilly into a hypnotic and minimal motorik groove inspired by Raymond Scott, Moondog and Martin Rev and mindful of Spacemen 3, This Heat, 23 Skidoo, Suicide and NEU!."

"At once hypnotic, stomping and futuristic, this record maintains their trippy, epic prog-disco aesthetic without sacrificing melody or subtlety. The album flows like a journey in sound, with each song seamlessly drifting into the next. The album, recorded and entirely self-produced in Diskjokke's new studio, draws its inspiration from Holger Czukay's mid-'80s period, Brian Eno, Arthur Russell, European disco, Alan Parsons, Tangerine Dream, Arthur Lyman and Craig Leon."

"After the release of Lindstrøm's critically acclaimed solo album Where You Go I Go Too, in 2008 and 2009's collaborative album with Prins Thomas, II, Norway's maestro of disco returns once again. This time he teams up with sultry vocalist Christabelle, to bring us Real Life Is No Cool, an edgy pop album of structured chaos and hypnotic beats. Hans-Peter Lindstrøm actually began work on Real Life Is No Cool before Where You Go I Go Too, it just so happened WYGIGT was finished first. It was his work on this new album, containing 10 short pop songs with vocals, which became the impetus behind creating the epic and colossal masterpiece, WYGIGT (with only 3 long tracks and an opening track clocking in at 28 minutes). Essentially, WYGIGT was a kind of reaction to his work on Real Life Is No Cool. When WYGIGT began making waves around the world, Lindstrøm went back into his studio to complete Real Life Is No Cool."
