Brame & Hamo return to their Splendor & Squalour imprint following their 2015 Lamaj's Secret EP (DIRT 089EP) and a string of remixes for Kolour LTD, Heist, and Dirt Crew (their very successful remix of Harry Wolfman & Loz Goddard's "Uncle Buck" (DIRT 094EP. 2016)). This EP opens with "Kebab Dreams," taking the listener on a trip to the moon with greasy drums and a saucy groove. MPC workout "Cert City" pays homage to the duo's hometown of Sligo, Ireland. Peak-time closer "Retch Wretchedness" takes a darker turn to the spookier side of Brame & Hamo while still keeping the jazzy touch.

The sleepy seaside town of Sligo, on Ireland's Atlantic coast, seems an unlikely location for a deep house label -- yet this debut 12" from the Sligo-based Splendor & Squalor label comes from two residents of the town, longtime DJ buddies and hip hop/deep house fusionists Brame and Hamo. The EP delivers beats that swing, sensual strings, chunky bass, and pads that wrap themselves around your body. The duo's collaborative "Clockwork" -- arguably the pick of the bunch -- is remixed by Session Victim (think ultra-deep goodness), while Hamo's sample-heavy "S.O.U.L." offers the perfect balance between smiling deep house and classic hip-house.

Hamo delivers his debut solo EP and the second EP on his and Brame's Splendor & Squalour imprint, following the pair's staggering EPs on Dirt Crew Recordings (including DIRT 078EP (2014)) and Detroit Swindle's Heist label. "Cotton Club" is a jazzy deep house jam with a hip hop vibe; "Wonce" is more on the melodic side; "In Control" features hip hop trio This Side Up, from Sligo, Ireland; and "The Black Lodge" is a dusty house groover with delightful hi-hats and sampling. Kickflip Mike (Box Aus Holz) adds a much clubbier vibe to "Wonce" with his remix, a real early-morning bomb.
