Dreamers, Maria Pia De Vito's latest album, 'is a collection of works by songwriter icons Paul Simon, David Crosby, Bob Dylan, Tom Waits and my beloved Joni Mitchell. Poets, lucid dreamers and social activists who, from the sixties onwards, have created timeless masterpieces of refined beauty, elevated by piercingly sincere poetic lyrics that embody the spirit of their time. These songs look backward and forward. Their impact didn't only dominate a historical moment but continues to be relevant to today's generation. Disarmingly, they reveal intimate feelings and experiences that powerfully resonate with the listener, the lyrics are a poignant criticism of politics and society, challenging the status-quo and unlocking minds to new philosophies and life views. They leave hope for change and inspire to build a better world: a just one. From the portrait of an island of peace as opposed to answering the call to arms in Vietnam -- in David Crosby's 'The Lee Shore', the soulmate in a dream Bob Dylan searches for in 'Simple Twist of Fate' or 'Carey ' by Joni Mitchell, criticizing the hypocrisy of society ('Be Cool'), social injustice ('Chinese Cafè', 'Questions For The Angels'), or the unscrupulousness of political power ('Pigs Sheep And Wolves'), to a song about compassion and empathy such as 'Rainbow Sleeves' by Tom Waits. Today, more than ever, we need this kind of 'poetic justice' from the arts, as a lighthouse for clarity and freedom to participate.'" --Maria Pia De Vito

Humanity is the newest album by Roberto Cecchetto, one the most original and eclectic guitarists on the European jazz scene, member of Enrico Rava's historic Electric Five band, renowned for his sonic experimentation and collaborations with the most important musicians in European jazz (Palle Danielsson, Richard Galliano, Paolo Fresu, Stefano Bollani, Paolino Dalla Porta, Lee Konitz, to name a few.) Cecchetto pairs with Lionel Loueke on guitar and Alessandro Paternesi on drums, weaving together rich and creative sonic textures into refined and genre-defying compositions. Soft melodic combinations and a rich harmonic palette are characteristic of Cecchetto's musical creations. An innovative guitar virtuoso and composer of West African origin, Loueke is member of the legendary Herbie Hancock touring band and has performed with leading figures of contemporary jazz. Loueke is one of the most in demand studio guitarists by world jazz gurus such as Wayne Shorter, Marcus Miller, Roy Hargrove, and Charlie Haden. Lionel Loueke and Roberto Cecchetto first met in New York City, an encounter which represented both an artistic and personal milestone. "After playing with Roberto in New York, I quickly realized that no musical territory was forbidden", says Loueke, "Our musical connection is evident and our styles are complementary, with a unique balance and interplay between our instruments. I can't wait to start our first tour together". Two well-matched and extraordinary guitarists with different experiences yet highly attuned to each other. United by a similar outlook, a strong passion, and curiosity for new horizons. Their first performance had been so mind-blowing that they resolved to take up this new duo project. Joining them is drummer Alessandro Paternesi who has been performing for over a decade and is one of the most highly sought-after Italian drummers. His intense concert activity has led him to perform together with internationally respected artists including Amil Stewart, Danilo Rea, Paolo Damiani, Gabriele Mirabassi, Javier Girotto, Fabio Zeppetella, Andrea Bocelli, Enzo Pietropaoli, Ada Montellanico, Franco Cerri.

Love in Translation marks the return (under the Jando Music/Via Veneto Jazz label) of an exciting collaboration between two protagonists of the international jazz scene which started twenty years ago at Umbria Jazz: Italian sax player Rosario Giuliani and US vibraphonist Joe Locke. Coming from different countries and with fairly distinct temperaments, these two artists have cultivated a vibrant and colorful musical style and are definitely bringing something new. They are accompanied by two other renowned artists, bassist Dario Deidda and drummer Roberto Gatto. With this intense and sophisticated album, Rosario and Joe celebrate the twentieth anniversary of their alchemical partnership and friendship. As the album's title itself suggests, Love in Translation is centered around the theme of love, the most powerful and enigmatic emotion. Among the famous standards contained are "Duke Ellington's Sound of Love" by Charles Mingus, "Love Letters" by Victor Young and Edward Heyman, and "Can't Help Falling in Love" of Elvis Presley's repertoire. It includes creative and warm original songs as well as tributes to two remarkable musicians: "Raise Heaven" which Joe Locke dedicates to Roy Hargrove and "Tamburo" by Rosario Giuliani to Marco Tamburini. An entrancing, lavish album embodying overwhelming emotions yet with freshness, and which is sure to be a 2020 highlight. Also features compositions by Charles Trenet and Léo Chauliac, Weiss/Peretti/Creatore, and Cole Porter.

"A New Home" is where man, spirit and music creatively converged and formed a new starting point. After sixty years of living with music, Rosario Bonaccorso's "new home" provides him with a different, deeper, and more intimate perspective: the result of internal and external renewal, where the changes brought by life were fostered with meditative love of creating. The album's title, however, also speaks for a phase of life where one heads for the far shore in a search for different experiences, visions and inspiration. "Ever since I've been living in this 'New Home', I've been lucky to be able to express my feelings through music in this new album which is a tribute to life -- this immense gift that's been offered to us ... I wrote this thinking of my present life, my future, of my grandson Lorenzo who's just landed here from the universe, of my wife Renate, muse and companion on this trip, of my children who grow and face changing horizons, of my new friends with whom I might grow old; and again, taking the time to give new importance to time itself; such as learning how to slow down and take a break -- to enjoy a blood moon high up in the summer sky. Because I do believe it's only by embracing change that a new phase can be reached in one's life and I just can't stop thanking music for having allowed me to share all this with others. This 'New Home' is quite a remarkable place!" The album contains 11 songs written by Bonaccorso and produced by Jando Music and Via Veneto Jazz, as with his other albums: A Beautiful Story (VVJ 112CD, 2017) and Viaggiando (VVJ 098CD, 2015). It's enriched by the presence of one of the greatest and most widely acclaimed musicians on the international jazz scene, the extraordinary sax player Stefano Di Battista with whom Rosario Bonaccorso, having been part of his bands since 1997, has collaborated for more than two decades. Stefano Di Battista and Rosario Bonaccorso have played together in hundreds of concerts all over the world, with renowned artists such as Lucio Dalla, Michael Brecker, Joe Lovano, Ivan Lins, and have recorded albums for Blue Note with other highly acclaimed jazz stars such as Vince Mendoza, Kenny Barron, Elvin Jones, and Herlin Riley.

Jando Music/Via Veneto Jazz release Across The Sea, by Kevin Hays and Chiara Izzi. This album is the outcome of an encounter of two musicians so distant and yet so inexorably close. A project where the music is always tangible, not volatile, particularly when born under a bright inspirational sky. Those holding the reins of this visionary journey between jazz and pop, America and Italy, dream and lyricism are, without doubt, the two artists: Chiara, with her warm, Mediterranean voice and Kevin, one of the most celebrated and admired pianists and composers on the American jazz scene who can boast distinguished pop music collaborations (James Taylor). Across The Sea was recorded at the legendary Sear Sound in New York; the outcome of diligent project work, with the collaboration of several guests such as Omer Avital, Gregoire Maret, Nir Felder, Chris Potter, and Rogério Boccato that simply amplify the awareness that this shared journey, so rich and adventurous, began under the best auspices. The compelling predominance of melody, the osmosis between vocals and keyboards and the amazing confluence of their singing voices, have sublimated the tasks related to production into subtle finishing touches of a chisel, aromas, invitations and "further" sounds magically converging into the final work. The French horn in the emblematic "Two For The Road", the ancestral oud in the Miles Davis classic "Nardis", the punctual and decisive harmonica in Pat Metheny's "James", the caressing guitar in "Circles Of The Mind", the sinuous saxophone in "Viaggio Elegiaco", are just a few examples.

Dirty Six's first album will be released in early 2019 for Jando Music/Via Veneto Jazz. Dirty Six is a sextet that brings together some of the gods and major exponents of Italian jazz. The self-titled disc contains ten original songs characterized by a strong rhythmic impact, and at the same time a remarkable melodic connotation, an album that transports the listener in a suggestive and modern atmosphere, in which jazz, R&B, funky, and Afro contaminations are cleverly combined together by the six musicians. The result is a vital interplay that reflects the great mutual esteem of the Dirty Six who are perfectly in tune with each other despite coming from different experiences. The band features Claudio Filippini on the piano, the saxophonist Daniele Scannapieco, Gianfranco Campagnoli on the trumpet, Roberto Schiano on trombone, and the rhythm with a noticeable sound impact is composed of Tommaso Scannapieco on the electric bass and double bass and Lorenzo Tucci on the drums.

Oona is a girl's name. It's the English version of the Irish name Úna, spelled strictly with an accent mark on the letter "u". Oona is matchless. Her voice is intimate and emotional. It glides from a velvet soft, soothing and captivating sound that first hypnotizes then freezes the listener in a startingly intense sound experience. An airy and easy-going melody that lulls and then swings you into a gentle groove you'll find hard to resist. Oona has her own rhythmic way with words and vocals, and a masterful capacity of playing with the Italian and English languages. She can write a line then change it entirely; since everything moves incessantly -- so does she. Oona is funk, jazz, bossa nova, or pop. She doesn't care what she is because she's just herself. She's acquainted with all genres and uses everything to create her own unequalled style. First Name Oona is Oona Rea's first album, with nine songs that will enchant you before you're even aware of it. Oona wrote all the lyrics herself and co-composed the music with Luigi Masciari, who created the arrangements and plays guitar. She then had the nine songs played by Alfredo Paixão who added bass lines, and Alessandro Marzi who put in drums. Occasionally, Danilo Rea went to listen to them at the studio where he added his masterful piano flourishes. First Name Oona is a subtle album, like a languid warmth it rushes through your veins and reverberates through your body, insisting and demanding that you listen to it yet once more.

How many albums do you have of Julian Oliver Mazzariello? Think about it. It'll probably be difficult for you to answer. Perhaps you won't be able to recall the precise number, but there's definitely at least one in your music collection. What's more, that elegant touch of his on the piano is unmistakable -- instantly recognizable by merely listening to the first few notes, not to mention his remarkable Anglo-Neapolitan name. But the truth is: no, you haven't got any of Julian's albums. That's because, although Julian lent his art to many musicians, colleagues of his, but he remained undecided on whether to step into the role of band leader. Julian has teamed up for outstanding duo albums with Fabrizio Bosso (with whom he shared several musical experiences), with Enzo Pietropaoli's Yatra and played with Lucio Dalla, Stefano Di Battista, Maria Pia de Vito, Edoardo De Crescenzo, and Fabio Concato, but Dèbut is his first solo performance. So, finally we have the chance and opportunity to listen to Mazzariello in all his creative flair and compositional dynamism: groove, swing, refined technique; along a path of differing styles which he approaches with heightened awareness. Whether they be ballads ("Monk in Paris", "J's Ballad") or groovier songs ("Funky Chunks") or soft blues ("Modal Blues"), the pianist masterfully guides the exceptional trio, formed by André Ceccarelli on drums and Rémy Vignolo on double bass. Seven original compositions and two standards of the song: "Accarezzame" by Pino Calvi (already interpreted by Roberto Murolo, Peppino Di Capri, Renzo Arbore, and many others) and "Que Reste-Til De Nos Amours?", Charles Trenet's masterpiece, make up this brilliant album. Now you have one less ambiguity and one more valuable album. Enjoy!

Via Veneto Jazz presents Close but Far by the Tano Trio featuring Leo Genovese. How do traditions travel among space and time? What defines the collective consciousness of a culture? How do elements that are so far away in reality, become so close in different dimensions? This record is the product of the union of a shared language that exists in two cultures that are geographically far away from each other and living under different contexts, but at the same they are so close. Daniele Germani (saxophone) and Stefano Battaglia (bass) are two musicians from Italy, joined by Leo Genovese (piano) and Juan Chiavassa (drums) from Argentina. Leo and Juan come from Italian families in Argentina. One could argue that Argentina's mother country is Spain, but the culture there is very much influenced by the Italian immigration movements of the past two centuries. So when the two Italians and the two Argentines met in New York, they found out that they actually shared a language beyond both the spoken word and music; they felt like brothers. Close but Far is a story about immigration, about the people who take the chance and leave things behind only to become nomads in search of new experiences and new sounds. These four musicians, who come from similar backgrounds in different parts of the world, gathered in New York City to record this album, and the chemistry among all the elements that come into play make this a unique musical experience. Personnel: Leo Genovese - piano; Daniele Germani - alto saxophone; Stefano Battaglia - bass; Juan Chiavassa - drums.

March 2018: the release of Enzo Pietropaoli's latest album Woodstock Reloaded represents, in a contemporary perspective, some of the most significant pages of the pivotal and epic moment which took place in August 1969 representing the peak of hippie culture, not exclusively related to its musical significance. Woodstock Reloaded wasn't conceived to be a "cover" but an original re-reading, an "update" of the reverberating impact and a reminder of those emotions, animating memories and encompassing the milestones that followed as it approaches through time. This is a tribute to the festival and a narration of the turning points and evolution of musical language from that moment to present day. The iconic artists included represent, according to Pietropaoli, the highlights of those days and the most significant performances, not only in terms of music but also of their impact on the cultural movement, on the clothing, and ideology -- transcending borders. Among these are: Santana, The Who, Janis Joplin, Joan Baez, Joe Cocker, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Sly And The Family Stone, and Jimi Hendrix.

Blue Moka is the debut album of the homonymous quartet composed of Alberto Gurrisi (Hammond), Emiliano Vernizzi (sax), Michele Bianchi (guitar), and Michele Morari (drums) with the extraordinary participation of Fabrizio Bosso. The album collects eight original songs that combine blues atmospheres with funky rhythms and R&B, opening up to New York nu-jazz. To these pieces are added two standards by Wayne Shorter ("Footprints") and Michel Petrucciani ("Brazilian Like") and a tribute to Lucio Dalla ("Futura"), a musician very dear to the band. Blue Moka takes up the colors of the American jazz tradition but experiments with the chromatic textures, creating a new shade of blue: a blue moka. A stylistic number that oscillates between research of language, tradition, and groove, a space that all members live with irony and complicity also thanks to the energetic sound that distinguishes them. The Blue Moka born in this way, in 2009, from an idea of a group of close-knit friends in love with jazz. The inclusion of Emiliano Vernizzi on sax has further expanded the sound possibilities and increased the need to create an original repertoire. Blue Moka collects the different souls of the band and is a mixture of modern jazz, R&B, and funk, with great respect for the Hammond tradition of the '60s. In the background, the numerous artists who influenced and formed the members of the quartet: Jimmy Smith, Art Blakey, Wynton Marsalis, Brian Blade, Pat Metheny, up to Robert Glasper, Roy Hargrove, and Larry Goldings. Among the original songs, "Bacon VS Tofu" (by Emiliano Vernizzi) is the first song played with Bosso, while "I Felt This For You" (by Michele Bianchi) was the decisive piece that highlighted the capacity of the group to explore new sounds together. Characterized by a clear Nordic sound juxtaposed with the typical bop of the Hammond, "Clear" (by Morari and Bianchi) is a reason that Michele Morari had in mind during a lonely trip to Lapland. 30 months born from one session of four days of tests, during which Alberto Morari ate Parmigiano- Reggiano aged 30 months. Personnel: Michele Morari - drums; Alberto Gurrisi - Hammond; Michele Bianchi - guitar; Emiliano Vernizzi - sax; Fabrizio Bosso - trumpet.

Roberto Tarenzi presents his new album, Love And Other Simple Matters. To record this expansive work Tarenzi, among the most proficient pianists on the contemporary jazz scene, assembled an amazing international rhythm section made up of James Cammack, legendary bassist for the Ahmad Jamal Trio, and the iconic Jorge Rossy, Brad Mehldau Trio's original drummer and multi-instrumentalist. With his extemporization and innovative stylistic exploration, Roberto Tarenzi exalts listeners in this top-quality and utterly compelling album. The album's title, which at first glance may appear ironic, cheerfully suggests that a lighthearted mindset can transform the burden of complex "matters". The trio provides a musical demonstration of this through complex harmonic and rhythmic elaborations that are deftly and alchemically rendered eloquent and fluid in a language which is pulsating and expressive. After listening to the album preview, David Liebman commented: "Roberto is one of the most talented pianists I have met over the past years, among the world's outstanding musicians with whom I greatly enjoy playing and spending time together. In this album he performs with two brilliant professionals and the depth of his great musical personality fully emerges." Personnel: Roberto Tarenzi - piano; James Cammack - doublebass; Jorge Rossy - drums.

In an exclusive box set Via Veneto Jazz and Jando Music present the first four albums of the famous Calabrian artist, appreciated jazz pianist, and original storyteller, Sergio Cammariere. The third album has to be confirmed and Jano, widening the number of musicians involved, gives it. The Space Between Things resumes the electrophonic, rare fictional, and visionary sonorities of the previous two albums, but expands the musical proposal into enthralling and elegant melodies, entrusted mainly to the splendid voice of Alessia Martegiani. The arrangements clearly showcase the collective plot, they are innervated by soul, expanding in noir appeal, delighted in bushy, well-crafted textures, and interact effectively with inserts of words recited. The nature of concept-album sets each track as a stage in the search for unexplored spaces between things, but escapes the risk of rigidly limiting the evocative capacity of the sounds. Emiliano D'Auria (piano, Rhodes, electronics) is the composer and arranger of all the songs. In addition to Alessia Martegiani (voice), he has also collaborated with Gianluca Caporale (saxophone, clarinet, flute), Massimo Morganti (trombone), Alex Paolini (drums, electronics), Maurizio Rolli (electric bass), Giulio Spinozzi (trumpet, flicorno), and sound engineer Anthony Di Furia. The result is an album that can also open spaces between jazz and jazz styles to let you experience emotions and air of contemporary sound. "Hurry Up, With Pain, Henry" features Linda Valori.

Enzo Pietropaoli presents his new album The Princess. A crescendo of songs that testify to the wide range of musical passions throughout a lifetime: from John Lennon to Bob Dylan, Cole Porter to Peter Gabriel, from Neil Young to Pearl Jam, topped off with the Beach Boys -- all brought together and punctuated by Pietropaoli's original compositions. "The Princess" is among these -- a metaphor for a dream pursued with determination and fully realized. Pietropaoli's deeply-felt love for the piano-trio is made evident by the creation of a solemn yet ethereal atmosphere, oscillating between ancient and young in a place beyond space and time, underscored by the choice of the song's title. Enzo Pietropaoli, at the double bass, is flanked by two extraordinary musicians: Julian Oliver Mazzariello on the piano and Alessandro Paternesi on drums, both of which contribute to an atmosphere which is simultaneously penetrating, delicate, and lush. Personnel: Enzo Pietropaoli - double bass; Julian Oliver Mazzariello - piano; Alessandro Paternesi - drums.

Sensitive, discreet, reflective, Elisabetta Serio instills in her music a double aesthetics alchemy: in her pianism melds, with a measured balance, an elegiac lyricism to a light rhythmic ripple. Sedici ("16"), edited by Via Veneto Jazz, includes in its title a lucky and dear numerology to the Neapolitan pianist. In her new work, Elisabetta gives her listeners a new prospective and with the trio piano formula trial, and proposes nine original tracks in a jazz key led by a suspended, poetic, and dream-like atmosphere in which she does not scorn any referee to neither the "masters", nor the world icons of contemporary music. Elisabetta's compositional liveliness and pianistic lexicon are exalted by the empathetic groove of Marco de Tilla's double bass and Leonardo de Lorenzo's percussive drumming. They are both comfortable with a symbiotic team game which mixes simultaneously, an indirect abstraction and a common feeling of visceral tension. Sarah Jane Morris's voice in the world form of "Afrika", Fulvio Sigurtà's trumpet playing a delicate melody in "Il Cielo Sotto Di Me", and Jerry Popolo's tenor saxophone playing in a funky mode "Rumors", enhances the trio chromatic palette. This gives an additional value to the record, which has an enchanting Mediterranean essence and synthesis of the multiple and gratifying experience lived by the leader (above all Mr. P) dedicated to her mentor and friend Pino Daniele.

Core [Coração], the new album from Maria Pia De Vito, was recorded between Rome and Paris. It is a record that is very much felt, and it is intensely transcultural; the title clearly indicates a work of the heart, whose candle was lit by Maria Pia's encounter with the Brazilian composer and guitarist Guinda, and the following poetic meeting with Chico Buarque, who is featured on two pieces of the record, "Todo Sentiment" and "O Meu Guri" (the second a duet in Neapolitan). A translation paper, from Portuguese to Neapolitan, was created side-by-side with the authors, in particular with Chico, in order to preserve and keep intact the beauty, poetry, and musicality of the original texts made in the Neapolitan language. In this metamorphic vision, just like a deep dive into the Brazilian songwriting world, Neapolitan dances meet the Brazilian ones, the visionary samba of Tom Zè meets a Tammurriata and together frame the Chico Buarque masterpiece "Construção"; "Agua E Vinho" by Egberto Gismonti blends to "Voce Voce", a wonderful example of the great Neapolitan melodic tradition. Along with Maria Pia, there are great musicians and long-time companions, instrument virtuosos with a deep sense of interplay; bearers of intimacy and feeling which only the common and long-staging of stages allows: Welsh pianist Huw Warren, who has recorded two albums, Dialektos (2008) and 'O Pata Pata (2011),- with Maria Pia. The virtuoso clarinetist Gabriele Mirabassi, with his classical and jazz style, has been linked for many years to Brazilian music and culture; The Brazilian guitarist Roberto Taufic, author of many arrangements and a musician of extraordinary sensibility; Roberto Rossi, a peculiarly creative and unconventional percussionist.

King Crimson is the most protean group of all contemporary music. For fifty years, Robert Fripp's mind has been churning out amazing ideas, inventing new sounds, revolutionizing stage ensembles, and gathering drummers. His compositions climb wild lyrical peaks to then dive into powerful bouts of metallic dissonances, ebbing into a magmatic sound wave which is in continuous evolution. It was only natural that a band, sooner or later, would rearrange these songs into jazz. It had to be a curious, courageous and somewhat reckless band, skilled in experimenting with sounds and styles. The trio of Bebo Ferra, Fabrizio Sferra, and Paolino Dalla Porta, with special guest Gianluca Petrella, has all these qualities (and many more) and has drilled into Fripp's acclaimed and intricate works, delving into the soul of each one and embarking on unexplored soundscapes. They have gone off the beaten track, in the footsteps of a pioneer, becoming forerunners themselves in bringing Fripp's music elsewhere. "Abandon all certainty, ye who enter here." Personnel: Bebo Ferra - guitar; Paolino Dalla Porta - doublebass; Fabrizio Sferra - drums; Gianluca Petrella - trombone.

Chansons! is a musical conception similar to a diplomatic treaty or melodious embrace between cousins. Essentially, it's an innovative exchange between two neighboring worlds that have always eyed and inspired one other with reciprocal curiosity. Italy and France unite as allies on the musical front, gathering on the field four extraordinary talents: Fabio Zeppetella, Roberto Gatto, Géraldine Laurent, and Emmanuel Bex. This original quartet uniquely interprets eleven songs that best reflect the musical tradition of singer-songwriters belonging to these two countries. Starting from the highly popular jazz composer Bruno Martino, passing through the ever-present Fabrizio De André and Francesco De Gregori and arriving to Pino Daniele, another milestone; on the French scene are idols such as Jacques Brel, Leo Ferré, Yves Montand, and Joe Dassin. The quartet's interpretation is extraordinary and the songs on Chansons! enchant from beginning to end. While the harmonious complicity of Gatto, Bex, and Zeppetella is a well-known fact, the musical fluency added by the involvement of Laurent is unexpected, further enriching this innovative project. Also features compositions by: Vincenzo De Crescenzo-Antonio Vian, Henri Betti-André Hornez, and Jean-Baptiste Clément-Antoine Renard. Personnel: Fabio Zeppetella - guitar; Emmanuel Bex - organ, voice; Géraldine Laurent - alto sax; Roberto Gatto - drums.

A Beautiful Story is the title of the new album by Rosario Bonaccorso, produced by Via Veneto Jazz. Following his last album released in 2015, Viaggiando on Via Veneto Jazz (VVJ 098CD, 1991), Rosario Bonaccorso continues to enrich and expand his musical pathway, evolving his ideas as a band leader and composer. The twelve outstanding compositions on A Beautiful Story immediately enchant the listener with their beauty and depth. Once again, his music is smooth and powerful, and the listener is swept away into an overpowering, yet refined, intimate universe. On this new album, the double bassist is joined by a group of acclaimed musicians: his friend Dino Rubino on the flugelhorn, Enrico Zanisi on the piano and Alessandro Paternesi on the drums. These young "lions", widely appreciated by critics and audiences on both Italian and European jazz scenes, are sensitive and mature artists and despite their young age, they boast of a rich variety of noteworthy collaborations and experiences. There's a particular charm in the musical direction and the refined sound of this quartet, where the Italian flair for writing music is manifest, Rosario Bonaccorso representing this at its finest. With A Beautiful Story, Rosario Bonaccorso allures the listener into a sonic journey filling heart and soul, radiating the myriad of emotions in his music.

"I went to New York to search for jazz, but there was none." It is 1982, and a young Massimo Nunzi is located in a city musically very different from what he expected. Who could imagine that then the seeds were planted for the Orchestra Operaia in New York some 35 years ago? To Nunzi, it was a musical and cultural shock, resulting at first in a sense of displacement that in time was followed by positive, creative opportunities. The artistic sensibility of Nunzi absorbed those stimuli and began to develop a new idea of music, in which definitions in general count for very little. "I owe much to Hal Willner, who in 1981 released an album dedicated to Nino Rota putting together rock musicians and jazz without any prejudice. He was flanked in his work serenely by Bill Frisell and Robbie Robertson, Diamanda Galas and Wynton Marsalis, Iggy Pop and Elvis Costello." Taking inspiration from Gil Evans and Frank Zappa, their stylistic freedom planted a flag in him, and Nunzi completed his art project, crafting Orchestra Operaia with much care and filling it with positive energy. "I seek full, not empty. The suspended atmospheres prefer structure, manic work on composition and arrangement. Music of this kind has never been treated by jazz musicians, and in fact it comes from my extremely varied training. It is a true reflection of my artistic life." This release features collaboration from the Lone Arrangers, four young musicians who could shape the Orchestra as they please, under the watchful eye of Nunzi. "The repertoire forged the Orchestra sound and it is merged within the disc that was composed mostly by me, but in this imaginative journey in my memory there were missing pieces that have enlightened me." Here and there emerge the beautiful voices of Petra Gizzards and Chiara Morucci, to further embellish the story of the album, and one must not forget the voice of the young Marta Colombo. A fascinating journey, which is dedicated to Laurie Anderson with a thoughtful nod to the "Six Memos" of Italo Calvino.

What would film be without music? Music conveys all that which images cannot. The importance of a soundtrack can sometimes even transcend that of images and stories, and great directors often build the entire structure of their masterpiece around a score - the themes in Cinema Italia are evidence of this. There have been numerous masterpieces in Italian cinema that have influenced filmmakers around the world and film composers continue to distinguish themselves in this art. Cinema Italia is a tribute to the great Italian cinema which has contributed to raising global awareness of the country and has maintained a tradition of excellence. Equally distinct is the cast of musicians on this album: Rosario Giuliani on sax, Luciano Biondini on the accordion, Enzo Pietropaoli on the double bass and Michele Rabbia on acoustic and electronic drums. The contemporary music point of view on Cinema Italia never betrays the melodies of these unforgettable themes and presents them with a new force and vitality, demonstrating their immortality and constantly surprising the listener with the fresh innovativeness of the proposed versions. Unforgettable themes from unforgettable movies, such as 8 ½ (1962), Once Upon A Time In America (1984) and Nuovo Cinema Paradiso (1988), by the iconic composers Nino Rota and Ennio Morricone. On top of these themes, two original tracks by Rosario Giuliani and Luciano Biondini, from Bianco E Nero (2008) and What Is There What Is Not (2011), confirm the narrative force of these two incredible musicians and composers.

This CD is a co-release from Via Veneto Jazz and Jando Music. Italian saxophonist Max Ionata is among the leading players in the contemporary jazz scene and releases his thirteenth album Rewind; his fourth recording produced by Via Veneto Jazz. With Rewind Max Ionata marks a turning point and repositions himself at the head of an entirely different ensemble: a Hammond trio. The group features an exceptional array of talents, comprised of master musicians of international stature with whom he established a remarkable synergy during numerous concerts in the past few years; namely the organist Alberto Gurrisi and the premier Dutch drummer Frits Landesbergen - also considered one of the best vibraphonists in Europe. This album truly represents a rewind - a transition veering from his traditional path - where Ionata starts anew with an abundance of creativity and bold stylistic innovations. An energetic swerve following an intense artistic career during which Max Ionata performed both as leader and as a special guest at international jazz festivals and clubs, collaborating with the greatest musicians in the world. The album contains two jazz standards, one song composed by Frits Landesbergen and arranged by Max Ionata, and six original songs Ionata composed at the piano in August 2015, at his house in Abruzzo. A time during which he intensified his musical research, starting with his great passion for American modern hard bop, unveiling new layers of that musical genius and intuitive melodic sense that distinguishes his music. Of the nine songs in the album, six are autobiographical: "Drum" is a tribute to the great Italian trumpeter Marco Tamburini, with whom Max shared key moments in his musical career; "Bob's Mood" is inspired by Bob Mintzer and his unique style of composing; "Mr G.T." (with Amedeo Ariano at the drums and Frits Landersbergen on the vibraphone) is dedicated to his friend and colleague Gege' Telesforo, who inspired Max with his unique way of experiencing the stage and with his passion for funk. "North Sea" is a ballad, played on the soprano sax, enthused by the coastal landscapes; "Sunflower" stems from the effect of the intense colors of Van Gogh's sunflowers. Antonio Carlos Jobim's pulsing and rhythmic "Chovendo Na Roseira" and George Coleman's "Amsterdam After Dark" are a few featured covers. "At Vic's" is written by Frits Landerbergen and dedicated to one of the greatest musicians in jazz, Victor Feldman.

This CD is a co-release from Via Veneto Jazz and Jando Music. The latest production of Via Veneto Jazz, Sparkle is the eighth album of one of the most acclaimed drummers on the Italian and international jazz scene: Lorenzo Tucci. The album contains eight of Tucci's original compositions and two songs paying tribute to great legends in the world of music: Sting and Pino Daniele. Beyond displaying technical mastery, this album reveals Tucci's style and flair, his creativity as a composer, his recognizable individual genre, and his ability to perform with precision and a fiery modern-edge blend that has been making waves in the contemporary jazz scene. Most of his themes aren't based on traditional jazz standards, but are shaped into brief suites, launching off into neatly contrived ideas. This is where jazz's rhythmic, melodic and harmonic conventions unexpectedly expand to unfold a new space, making Sparkle a truly innovative, contemporary jazz masterpiece. Renowned pianist Luca Mannutza together with the notably young yet acclaimed double bassist, Luca Fattorini, weave refined and interesting textures that fit seamlessly into the musical interlace, creating truly fresh-sounding atmospheres. Veteran Italian trumpeter Flavio Boltro imbues the music with intensity and emotional strength, thanks to his dynamically sensitive playing and versatility. The title track, "Sparkle Suite", is a three part song - a form which characterizes the entire album. "So One", a song in 5/4 time, is catchy and upbeat in a fresh and unpredictable way. "Past" and 'Grow" are original tracks nestled on the outermost edge of jazz creativity. "Two Years" reveals a strong and creative melodic approach, with rhythmic inventiveness. The suggestive, slow bossa nova track, "L & L", carries a sense of mellow seduction and fluidity where Mannutza and Boltro spin out their technically advanced virtuosity. "Keep Calm", is a song having a groovy, laid-back feel with linear drumming and polyrhythms almost evocating an auditory illusion. In the last unreleased track, "Tarì", is inspired by a real yet ethereal location, Tucci creates a sound which is apparently simple, yet of great harmonic complexity. The tribute songs to Pino Daniele and Sting have been transformed into true jazz standards of rare beauty: the first, "E po' che fa'", is embellished by Karima's intimate, sultry voice, while "Seven Days" is performed in trio with Tucci, Mannutza and Fattorini re-inhabiting Sting's beautiful song in a heartfelt tribute to the great artist.

This CD is a co-release from Via Veneto Jazz and Jando Music. Terras is the first album by Duo Taufic with vocalist Barbara Casini. After several years of collaborating and touring, Duo Taufic, together with the most Brazilian of all Italian singers, recorded an album to celebrate the living tradition of Northeast Brazil, which serves as a metaphor for all the "terras" of the world, where beauty and suffering are intensely mingled together. Duo Taufic and Casini do this with unequaled energy and love, which is felt in every note. Barbara Casini, an exceptional singer, has always been in love with Brazil. Since her career began in the late '70s, she has collaborated with such internationally renowned jazz musicians as Enrico Rava, Stefano Bollani, Fabrizio Bosso, Phil Woods, and Lee Konitz, as well as with renowned musicians in the Brazilian popular music scene including Toninho Horta and Guinga. She was among the first to introduce nordeste music in Italy, pioneering a style of poetry, joy, rhythm, and dance, which also manifests the heart-breaking wistfulness and weariness of land that is both unforgivingly harsh and overwhelmingly beautiful. Roberto and Eduardo Taufic were born in that land; Brazil's soul is their soul. When performing together, their sound captures that perfect synthesis of talent and art; synchronicity and complicity; play and imagination. Their indisputable fluidity permeates even during the moments of highest technical virtuosity. Particularly celebrated in Brazil, the two brothers have been popular for years in Italy. Eduardo -- a pianist, composer, and music producer -- has produced and arranged more than 400 recordings in Brazil and played with renowned Brazilian musicians including singer Elza Soares and guitarist Ricardo Silveira. Roberto has lived in Italy since 1990 and has collaborated with a number of renowned artists in both Brazil and Europe, including Gabriele Mirabassi, Maria Pia de Vito, Guinga, Enrico Rava, Gianmaria Testa, Rita Marcotulli, Sergio Cammariere, and Rosario Bonaccorso, to name a few.
