Ten years after their foundation and after a 4-year break, Berlin audio/video project Rechenzentrum are finally releasing a new DVD with the programmatic title, Silence. Rechenzentrum have been making musical and visual changes: the electronic surface of the tracks has developed into a predominantly electro-acoustic world of sound, receiving its impulse from Marc Weiser's long-standing membership in the Zeitkratzer international ensemble for contemporary music (who are currently releasing two DVDs with compositions by Lou Reed and Iannis Xenakis on Asphodel). As well as the purely instrumental tracks, there are three vocal tracks by Rechenzentrum themselves, harkening somewhere between Marvin Gaye and David Sylvian in terms of the vocal sound, and which expand the Rechenzentrum universe, giving it a timeless pop facet. The visual side is also rejuvenated, currently consisting mainly of manipulated images of handcrafted black and white drawings by video artist Lillevan that form a symbiotic unity with the music. Inspired by Russian icon painter Andrej Rjublev, to whom Andrei Tarkowsky dedicated his black and white film of the same name, Rechenzentrum set out on a journey into the strange worlds of contemplative states of existence. Silence is a meditative and self-referential musical-visual system of coordinates between electro-acoustic melancholy and humorous sketches of the club landscape. Guest artists include: Maurice de Martin (percussion & drums), Reinhold Friedl (grand piano), Franz Hautzinger (quarter trumpet), Nicholas Bussmann (cello) and Nicolas T. Weiser (guitar). Format: DVD NTSC; Region Free 0, plus audio content.
