"Scott Beschta, Milwaukee's own Syd Barrett, has been recording tracks on his own since his early days of living with Erik Kowalski (Casino Versus Japan) in 1998. Magic Arrows represents exactly the kind of lo-fi psychedelic sound that Wobblyhead built the label upon: Sampler, guitar, bass, keyboard and effects all recorded onto cassette tapes. It's the drum loops of DJ Shadow, the genius pop hook sensibilities of Brian Wilson and the psychedelic drones of Spacemen 3. Repetition is the flagship concept here, as the music requests your presence to investigate the darker corners of the song field. Sweet Heavenly Angel Of Death brings to mind the sensory overloaded urgency of David Crosby's 'If I Could Only Remember My Name,' as it is a shambolic masterpiece, meandering but transcendentally so, full of frayed beats and hazy blissful melodies. The incongruities are left in the mix, and it's all the better for it."

"Def Harmonic returns in a big way with a 4 track twelve inch record of precise body funk. In fact, the funk is all over these tracks, showing Jason Todd's affliction for the cosmic atomic forefathers of rhythm. The lead track 'Spaced Out' is a radio friendly monster and has been slaying Milwaukee dancefloors for some time now with its analog pulse on top of a huge 4/4 crunk beat. As the production bar has been honed through funk reduction, the verses, delivered by Lunaversol 9 and J. Todd, have been equally streamlined without losing their trademark optimism and self-belief. These four tracks represent the most concise, immediate tracks that the group has displayed thus far, surely to grab the ears and asses of the hip hop disco masses."

"Wobblyhead comes correct with this limited 10" split by two of NYC's best bands of the moment. The Double have been steadily building a name for themselves on both sides of the pond with their brand of edgy, textured atmospheric rock bringing to mind The Walkmen, Secret Machines and Radiohead. Their track here, 'Hot Air', drives forward with a colorful pop racket and keen vocals before wafting to pure silence, only to come back all pilled up and paranoid with barely a trace of its original form. On the flip, The Occasion compliments their fellow travelers, with a psyche-pop nugget of stoner freakouts and lush plucky grooves. The use of tape loops, delays and reverb open the track 'Equine' up beautifully, bringing to mind early-Floyd sensibilities and a confident sense of why feedback is the perfect bedfellow to psychedelic experimentation. Both bands compliment the other perfectly, in the process unveiling a fresh manifesto completely untouched by any of the dominant trends in NYC as of late."

"Jason Todd, the production brain behind the Def Harmonic releases, steps out on his own and drops a ridiculously charming LP under the Innerstance.Beatbox guise. Sounding not unlike Luke Vibert's downtempo offerings, this instrumental morsel pulls from the jazz & hip hop canon and wows you with twisted samples and melodic genius. Predominantly an instrumental affair, All Little Boys... allows Todd to investigate his 12+ years of jazz heritage. Being an accomplished DJ as well, he sprinkles the mix with his own humor, savvy beat programming, and low end rhythm. Samplers, melodicas, turntables, saxophones, keyboards and countless other mysterious gadgets and noisemakers are all present. Todd assembles from the heart and pastes his work together like only a true turntablist could, giving proper affection to the hip hop beast without losing touch with the soul of The Song. The headz will know."
