XLT 922EP
Omar McCutcheon, operating under his Batu alias, has been on the frontline of Bristol's innovative electronic music scene since 2013. In 2015 he founded his record label Timedance. Batu's Rebuilt EP marks his third release in just over a year. Batu pushing his sound forward in every way possible, creating his most uniquely slippery sounding tracks to date. "I wanted to try and challenge myself a bit for this EP. Every track represents a different phase of experimentation -- and also different tempos, I wanted to push my processes further than I ever have done."

"Murmur" is focused around a single stuttering beat pattern, played across multiple instruments. After its initial stark drop, the track evolves into a more measured form, whilst still ramping up its mind-mashing dancefloor purpose. "Groundwork" expands on the theme of subtle, but effective grooviness. Synth lines rise into bursts of spacious noise, ascending before being clamped back onto the tenacious but constantly developing rhythm. "Whisper" concludes with giant throbs of sub and woozy but visceral pads, fading into a sea of reverb and modulation.

TIMEDANCE 003EP
Timedance label boss, Batu, returns for his most expansive work to date. The Monolith EP is comprised of three original tracks and a remix from Lee Gamble. Inspired by the relationship between light and dark timbres, the title track takes on a low-slung, hypnotic pace. "Reez" expands on this down-tempo feel, focusing on a more dub-wise aesthetic. "Void" is an infectious, gradually building loop. Strong emotive melodies set the track apart from the artists' usual "heads down" style. Lee Gamble's "Reez" remix deconstructs the propulsive nature of the original track into a hazy fog.

MISTY 005EP
Beneath's Mistry label draws the best out of Batu in this quaking two-headed beast. With each release Batu seems to step further into his own sound, while also remaining true to a shared aesthetic and tempo with peers such as Beneath, Pinch, Lurka, and L.Sae on his home-brewed Timedance label. For this headstrong mission he comes with the noisy, technoid mutation of "Dakalb" up top, alloying radioactive subs with rusted snare-crack and floor-scanning sirens to murder the dance. "Collate" runs industrialized roto-toms and scooping bass with the ruddiest junglist swagger crowbarred into a 130-BPM template.
