KZN 001EP
|
Madam X's Kaizen label kicks things off with a sturdy three tracker from Manchester heavyweight Biome. Shady and sinister, "Griddled" kicks off the EP with a razor-sharp dive-bombing effect, flirting between mutant UK bass, sturdy dubstep, and Middle-Eastern condiments. "Squelch" fuses rim shots, acid, and down-pitched vocals while "Bush" experiments with subtle percussions, flipping between UKG, bleep techno, and high-energy rollers.

TEMPA 090EP
|
Since debuting in 2007, the Manchester-based producer Biome has attracted acclaim for his pummeling, stripped-back dubstep tracks, becoming regular fixtures in the sets and radio shows of luminaries such as Youngsta and Icicle. A true minimalist, Biome's tracks are each composed of a bare handful of elements, but each placed so carefully in the mix that each percussive hit and synth motif impacts with stunning force. Each of the Cromos EP's tracks takes a strikingly different angle, from expansive and spacious half-step to experimental yet focused dancefloor rollers, all united by their distinct ear for spatial arrangement and pinpoint sound design.

BLACKBOX 029EP
|
Black Box has compiled Biome's most developed and complete release yet -- the Two Way EP -- showcasing the breadth and variety in his music. "Reality" is a dazzling mix of sublime bell chimes, lofty breaks and searing mid-range, before moving into "Inner Mind," a lush ensemble of emotive strings & pads, cruising drums, and delicate piano and vocal. "Charged" features taut dynamics, where tense, unresolved textures and prodding synth hits flow over a tight structure of beats & bass. "Two Way" is a futuristic dub excursion.

BLKBXXX 004EP

With consistent support across Rinse FM, Manchester tastemakers Biome embody the current dungeon dubstep renaissance. Fierce kick-drums perforate the monolithic bass vacuum, where distorted space-time is squeezed by gravity-shifting synth-work and dramatic pianos. Support from Youngsta, Kryptic Minds, N-Type and DJ Madd. One-sided release.
