Console is one of the main projects for Martin Gretschmann, the lead programmer for the German indie rockers known as The Notwist. He did several collaborations and remixes with/for artists such as Björk, Depeche Mode, Barbara Morgenstern and many more. For the second part of the "Herself" remixes, Daniel Bortz, Der Dritte Raum and Nu interpret the Console tracks in a new way and show fresh facets of the original material.

Four years after the last Console release Mono (DB 140CD/LP), it's time for some new vivid life signs of the famous Weilheim-based collective. This time, the new album titled Herself is a bit more of a solo attempt. Due to mastermind Martin Gretschmann's always-packed calendar, it's no surprise that first drafts of this album came to life on his laptop while on tour with The Notwist. The final recordings then took place in his studio together with singer Miriam Osterrieder and a bunch of electronic toys. Martin Gretschmann can be called -- in the best sense -- a creative factotum: The Notwist's electronic wizard since 1997, as well as member of the all-star combo 13&God (a collaboration by The Notwist and the Anticon hip-hoppers Themselves). Under his alter ego Acid Pauli, he not only performs extraordinary club sets but also brings some humor onto the minimal dancefloor. Herself is not a born-and-bred ambient album, but bristles with bright pop appeal. Gretschmann, the alchemist, synthesizes beats, sounds and samples, creating unpretentious melodies and atmospheres. Miriam Osterrieder's voice is much more present and smelts the sentiment between pop and ambient into simple, wonderful songs. Console has already caused quite a stir with their releases for different labels like the major Virgin as well as for seminal indies like Payola and Matador. They have made a live album, several radio plays, and have collaborated with Björk, Tocotronic and Depeche Mode. After Mono and the re-release of the debut Pan Or Ama (DB 144CD), this album is another step in Console's esteemed band history.

Pan Or Ama, the debut album by Console was first released on Payola in 1997. Martin Gretschmann (also a member of Notwist), the lone operator behind Console, who sometimes locks up a whole band behind his project, has since paced through many ups and precious few downs of pop star-ism, releasing five great albums, and now it's impossible to imagine the world of electronic song without him! But Pan Or Ama, of which only 1000 copies were pressed, almost became forgotten, although this record goes right into the heart of Console's early sound. Pan Or Ama touches deep, with tracks and beats full of contemplative, soft melodies. The seventh track which remains without a name, breaks into an emotional landscape as before only "Radio 4" by Public Image Ltd. had tackled. Softness built up like a monolith, and at the end, strong and hefty noise. Even after eight years, this landmark debut has lost none of its beauty or relevancy, but rather, marks itself as a musical melodrama for people who remember when melody truly merged with electronic music. The rest is history. This CD contains all tracks off the original CD release, and all additional tracks on the vinyl version, as well as the Lady-Bug 12".

Ten years after their first Console 12", the notorious electronica collective from Weilheim/Bavaria is back with Mono, their debut for Disko B. Console have released two albums (Rocket In The Pocket and Reset The Preset) on the major label Virgin as well as on seminal indies like Matador and did collaborations/remixes with/for the likes of Björk and Depeche Mode, a live album (Live At Centre Pompidou) and various radio plays. Martin Gretschmann -- besides still being the lead programmer for German indie rockers The Notwist and the all-star collaboration 13 & God -- once more got together with his gang Axel Fischer (aka FC Shuttle), Christoph Brandner, Michael Schwaiger (aka Hometrainer), Miriam Osterrieder and Anton Kaun (aka Rumpeln) to invent an intriguing new piece of Console music. Mono takes a conscious break from everything remotely resembling "electro-pop" and refines Console's capability to create fine atmospheres and gentle melodies and smoothly lather them in noise. Miriam Osterrieder's voice is the star instrument that again and again emerges through the course of the album. Mono flickers between pop and ambient and even manages to integrate heavyweight cover-versions by Brian Eno and Sonic Youth in the tenderly glowing Console flow without sounding pretentious.
