"Delicious Vinyl presents this key material from Jay Dee's output in a never before issued and not to be repeated random colored vinyl assortment. Shortly after Jay Dee's younger brother Illa J's solo debut was issued on Delicious Vinyl, the label and the artist knew the next step in honoring Jay Dee's legacy was to issue the complete instrumentals from Yancey Boys as a stand-alone release. This mother lode of previously untouched (at the time) beats dates as far back as Jay Dee's time working on the Pharcyde's sophomore album, 1995's Labcabincalifornia. As Delicious Vinyl owner Michael Ross explains, 'From '95 through '98 Jay Dee was my go-to guy for hot beats and remixes. He was always making beats, always. So, there was a select amount of tracks that he composed for me during that time, tracks as good as anything he'd done, only they never got used.' Once these beats were used for Illa J's Yancey Boys they were presented to the public on Yancey Boys Instrumentals."

"The heads have made a demand. The standard vocal version of 'Yancey Boys' is not enough to satisfy their thirst for Jay Dee beats. They said an instrumental version has to be released, and luckily Delicious Vinyl is willing to supply the material to fill this request. John 'Illa J' Yancey, younger brother of late, great genius producer James Yancey (aka Jay Dee, J Dilla), recently released his debut album. Rhyming and singing over a treasure trove of previously untouched Jay Dee gems, the project represents both a full-circle collaboration and a whole new beginning in the story of the musically exceptional Yancey brothers."

2019 repress, originally released in 2009. "When John 'Illa J' Yancey, younger brother of late, great genius producer James Yancey (aka Jay Dee, J Dilla), released his debut album fans discovered the younger of the Yancey Boys to be a unique talent in his own right. Rhyming and singing over a treasure trove of previously untouched Jay Dee gems, the project was a full-circle collaboration and a whole new beginning in the story of the musically exceptional Yancey Brothers. But the fans asked for the Jay Dee instrumentals and Illa J and Delicious Vinyl were happy to answer with the release of Yancey Boys Instrumentals. Out of print on LP for years, this piece of Dilla history is once again available in a fresh double vinyl pressing."
