CADENZA 029EP
|
Thomas Melchior returns to Cadenza with a single that continues to push gently outward against the boundaries of house music. Thomas has a knack for humanizing his music with compelling vocal samples -- the title track features a female voice that drifts like clouds on a summer day. Spindly arpeggios and quiet chords bounce against restrained drums. "Choir" sets hand drums and wood blocks against a limber house pattern while birdcalls and sampled choirs punctuate the music with jubilant outbursts.

Three years after his groundbreaking album The Meaning (Playhouse, 2004) Thomas Melchior 's 2007 longplayer No Disco Future. Melchior formed the duos Vulva and Yoni, who were releasing on Aphex Twin's label Rephlex, on the U.S. label Reflective, and for German electronica pioneers, Source Records. With his mate Peter Ford, he forms the duos Sunpeople and Soul Capsule (and various others). No Disco Future sounds less micro-house and more homogeneous. Slightly spherical soundscapes perfectly unite with discreet vocals building very harmonical structures.

"Three years after his groundbreaking album The Meaning (Playhouse, 2004) Thomas Melchior presents his new longplayer No Disco Future. Skills and experiences Thomas gained throughout the years are innumerous. To mention just a few: along with Tim Hutton he formed the Duos Vulva and Yoni who were releasing on Aphex Twin's label Rephlex, on the U.S. label Reflective, and for German electronica pioneers, Source Records. With his mate Peter Ford, he forms the duos Sunpeople and Soul Capsule (and various others). The new album sounds less micro-house and more homogeneous. Slightly spherical soundscapes perfectly unite with discreet vocals building very harmonical structures."

2013 repress, originally released 2007. "This 12" is a great foretaste of Thomas Melchior's album No Disco Future. Both tracks won't be available on this album. The A-side features a mesmerizing, deep and warm house tune of the kind you can't crop because it's getting better and better. Melodic, yet with a perfect sense of what to omit. On the flipside, Melchior takes it to a more abstract level keeping the groove clearly in mind. House music!"

2013 repress. "Grandmaster Thomas Melchior steps along in his lightfoot manner. Although with a somehow decent melancholic note, the two deep and reduced tracks should show a similar effect as the announcement 'we give away iPods for free on the dancefloor.'"

2012 repress. Thomas Melchior's title track could be the perfect soundtrack for your next private voodoo session, while the flipside already received heavy rotation by Ricardo Villalobos and Luciano.
