"Formed in Buffalo, New York, in 1989, Mercury Rev quickly grew to become leading figures in left field alternative rock. Earlier albums veered towards experimental, off-kilter psychedelia but by the end of the decade, the band had developed their own brand of serene, piano-based Americana with the acclaimed, best-selling LP Deserter's Songs (1998). Originally issued in September 2008, Snowflake Midnight was the seventh album by Mercury Rev and followed The Secret Migration (2005) and All Is Dream (2001) -- both of which have already been treated to deluxe editions by Cherry Red. Although the album wasn't fanfared by any singles, the tracks 'Senses On Fire', 'Butterfly's Wing' and 'Snowflake In A Hot World' all enjoyed exposure on radio. Meanwhile, the vinyl edition of Snowflake Midnight was issued as a double LP with a bonus disc of remixes, entitled Strange Attractor. And V2 also released a 12" EP featuring further remixes. Cherry Red Records are proud to unveil a deluxe five-CD edition of this relatively recent highlight in the continuing musical story of Mercury Rev, compiled and coordinated by the band's Jonathan Donaghue and Sean 'Grasshopper' Mackowiak. Joining the original album are a second disc of previously unissued outtakes, entitled Hymn Of The Heavenly Snowflake, a third disc cryptically entitled Snowflakes From A Train (again, hitherto unheard) and a fourth disc of live material (again, unreleased until now). Disc five offers the first commercial CD outing for Strange Attractor, with the added bonus of those four 12" remix tracks. This expanded edition of Snowflake Midnight is presented as a plush, hardbook book containing original album lyrics, lots of visuals and new sleeve-notes by acclaimed author and journalist Martin Aston."

"Debut on vinyl LP for Mercury Rev's 2006 soundtrack album, Hello Blackbird. At the time, V2 planned to release this on vinyl but the project never got beyond test pressings. Strictly limited edition of 1,000 copies on marbled blue vinyl, with a printed inner sleeve. Musically, Hello Blackbird allowed Mercury Rev to further expand the sonic soundscapes they were exploring with The Secret Migration, with classical and ambient styles ('The Last Of The White Birds' reinterpreted Chopin's Piano Sonata No. 2 in Bb minor, Opus 35 (Marche Funebre)). The album was recorded at Six Hour Studios in Kingston, New York, in mid-2004 and the music was intended as the soundtrack for the 2005 feature film Bye Bye Blackbird, by French director and photographer Robinson Savary. Bye Bye Blackbird was a tragic, compelling love story set in a turn-of-the-century travelling circus, with a stellar cast, including Derek Jacobi and James Thierre."

"All Is Dream, the sequel to Deserter's Songs", was originally released on V2 in 2001 in August (Europe) and September (North America) and boasted a more expansive, cinematic production than its predecessor (again courtesy of ex-member Dave Fridmann, by this time arguably the most in-demand producer in alternative US rock). The record was warmly received by critics and fans alike, enjoying higher chart positions than its predecessor (No. 11 UK, No. 17 US, Top 40 in Australia and in various European countries, etc.). With all previous vinyl editions of All Is Dream now hard to find, this new version not only satiates demand for one of the band's most important records but adds a bonus disc featuring various B-sides and out-takes which were unveiled on last year's 4-CD book set."
