Eskimo has always been ardent supporters of the productions of Fernando Miranda Rios aka Michoacan. Cosmic disco has been a common thread for many of Michoacan's early releases, but he has also adopted a much woollier and idiosyncratic production style over the years. On this 12", Michoacan embarks on an adventurous trip down memory lane. The entire EP is suffused with '70s Moog vibes. You'll hear influences from early synth pioneers, even imagining Kraftwerk jamming by the poolside. Combine this splendid nostalgia with Michoacan's spectacular sound design, and you'll know why this hasn't been off Eskimo's record player for weeks now.

When the talented Michoacan released "D.S.S.G." a few years ago, the Eskimo crew fell instantly in love with the track. The original is a top notch crossover production that is situated somewhere between house, rock, and electro, with vocals catchy as hell. Eskimo now presents the Disco Sucks So Good remixes. Martin Dubka's remix has "disco" written all over it, while Tiger Stripes gives the track a sultry swing. Kasper Bjørke's spaced-out reinterpretation really finishes off this remix package.

"The one-two kick drum beat that starts 'In the Dark of the Night' functions as a bit of a tease. Instead of merely establishing the languid pace of the track, it has the power of suggestion, and its stark nakedness raises the question of what will happen after the music fully launches. A few seconds later, a punch-drunk, flanging keyboard is the first clue that the listener is in for an off-kilter ride; the sauntering bassline that next appears adds a springy, funk bounce. But it's the tripped-out, multi-tracked vocals of Fernando Miranda Rios -- a.k.a. Michoacan, the producer behind this slow reveal -- that give the song its peculiar, space-y vibe. It's like David Byrne with funk aspirations and a vaguely cosmic feel. The B-side remix, courtesy of Italy's Clap Rules, feels like more of a re-build. The song has been taken apart and put back together with brand new parts. Instead of more relaxed, dazed funk at the core, it's a glittery, disco-ballsplattered track with glossy keys all around."

Michoacan is Fernando Miranda Rios, a young and very talented producer from the States. He already has releases on labels such as Grayhound, Headinghome, Lo-Rise and Bear Entertainment. His track "2 Bullet"' was on the Lektroluv Elektrik Planet compilation and the title track from this EP here got a spot on the new Lektroluv 007 release. Both "Basshead" and "D.S.S.G." can and will get radio airplay for sure. Situated somewhere between house, rock, disco and electro, Michoacan has his own particular sound and is an artist you will certainly hear more from in the future!!
